The rain didn't look like it was going to stop anytime soon so she only had to choose one option. She would either stand there and wait for it to subside or walk in the rain.
She would love to go home without a cold but that was not one of the choices. Taking her cardigan off she covered her head and left the shed.
There was no use in running because at the end of it all she was still going to be wet.
People passed her in a hurry and she knew they and a family to go back to. All she had were two brothers who did not even talk to each other unless they needed something.
Did she want them to talk to each other more? Yes, but it always seemed like she was the only one who wanted that.
She was tired of trying to make things the same. It's like they had changed completely, especially Edmund.
Edmund was not the same person that she grew up with. He couldn't blame him though. They had all dealt with their troubles in different ways and he had decided to become this monster.
The rain brought back memories that she wanted to forget. A part of their last that was so cruel. It was like it happened yesterday and she could see all of it.
Their father tied up Edmund outside in the barn in the rain. All because he had gone out to play. He had been cruel to them but he had been worse to Edmund.
Mostly it was because he defied all the things that he said. That was not how to deal with a kid though. Leaving him out in the rain till morning.
He did it over and over again to the point where they wondered if he just wanted him dead. If he had wanted that then maybe that was what he should have done.
Death was better than being tortured like that. He would starve him for days and days if he did not apologize for something that he had done.
They were little and they could not stand up to him all they could do was hide some food so that they could take it to Edmund.
It had been one of the many times that their father had done something like that. With time they got used to it and knew how to handle it but that did not mean that it was okay for them to go through that.
With every time his father punished him, Edmund became even worse. There was no saving him he just had to get out himself.
It felt like Edmund was a prisoner in his own home the only way it would work was if one of them did not exist anymore.
One of them had to go for things to work. It was not like people were going to miss their father anyway.
Everyone wanted him to go and he has done them a favor. Katelyn remembered the night that they found the body of their father.
With Edmund standing beside him with bloodied hands they did not even want the details. They already knew what had happened there.
No one talked about it. They covered the body and dug a grave. They buried him like a man who did not have a status. A lone man because that was what he was.
Katelyn heard footsteps behind her and wondered who it was. She did not act alarmed though she just continued walking hoping that it was someone else who was going the same way as her.
That was unlikely though because they were the only people who went that way.
She turned around and was shocked by who was following her.
"Peter", she said perplexed.
"Yes sorry if I scared you ", he said.
"Sorry if you scared me? I was wondering who was following me and all along it was you ", she said as she placed a hand on her chest like she was trying to even her breath.
She let out a sigh of relief because it could have been anyone else but she was glad it was him.
It was ironic that she wasn't scared he was following her when he hated his brother.
"What are you doing here following me?", she asked him as she started to walk.
"I saw you earlier at the shed and wanted to make sure you got home safe ", he said as he walked beside her.
The rain had now subsided and it was just drizzling but they were. already wet there was no reason to stop.
"And you thought the best thing to do was creep up on me like some pervert ?", she asked him.
"Am sorry my lady I didn't mean to startle you ", he said as he bowed down and they both burst out laughing.
"It's not funny though I would have hurt you ", she said.
"I don't think so if you wanted to hurt me you would have already done that ", he said and in a split second, he was on the muddy ground Katelyn standing looking down at him.
"Okay you have proven your point ", he said as he tried to move her heel that was dangerously close to his eye.
She scoffed and continued walking. She wondered what he thought he was. Did he think that it was some love story whereby she fell in love with the man who was against their family?
Things didn't work like that with them. They stuck with each other till the end. If he thought that it was a way to get to Edmund then he was mistaken.
She would crash him without needing help from anyone.
"Where were you coming from ?", he asked her as he caught up.
"What do you mean where am I coming from, I didn't realize this was an interrogation ", she said scoffing.
"It's not an interrogation am just making small talk", he said smiling.
"I don't remember saying I wanted to talk to you, now did I ?", she asked him.
"You are just as hotheaded as your brother aren't you. You could at least say thank you to me for walking you home", he said.
"For what though, it didn't seem like I was in trouble or anything. I can handle myself, you don't have to swoop in and save me or anything.", she said as she increased her pace.
He was pissing her off and she wanted nothing more than to get away from him. The lights of her home were getting brighter and she was glad that she had reached home.
"It was a pleasure walking you home ", he said sarcastically.
"I don't think you are someone that my brother wants to see right now. So if I were you I would be gone already. He won't hesitate to kill you if he sees you near me", she said.
"So you let him make rules for you ?", he asked her.
"Okay, it seems like I did not point out things clearly for you. You are not my favorite person and right now am not in the best mood so when I said my brother could kill you I didn't mean that it's only him who wants you dead.
I do not appreciate you following me and if I kill you I have a proper reason so how about you just go away before this turns ugly and ooohh there comes brother ", she said.
