Not Born Yet

SNEAK A PEEK

BACKGROUND: Hospital Ward

The morning was silent and her mind was at peace. She sat leg crossed beside her Grandpa who was resting after his kidney stone operation. Her grandma was tired and was resting on the extra bed after waiting so long outside the operation theatre. Sarah had taken leave from school to help them at the hospital. She looked at them deeply, content at how they raised her with all the love that her parents were lacking at.

Once her father called to wish her Birthday which was already gone two months ago and her mother still sends her the same glittery shoes she had been receiving for last four birthdays and were 4 sizes small. There was no love between the three of them.

She got up and left to get the Breakfast from home. Her parents 'only on papers' love reminded her of her Grandma telling her about how she fell in love with her Grandpa. That was the time when women were underprivileged and her grandma wasn't looking for love in her marriage. But grandpa being her Knight in Shining Armors, always remained supportive for her freedom, helped her study, ride bicycle and respected her decisions.

She walked into the elevator, carrying breakfast for them all. The elevator was empty except for this one drunken dude, reeking of sweat, whom she doubted to have entered the wrong building. His knees were making decision whether to go front, left or right. Going backwards wasn't in the option.

She replayed her Grandparents love scenario in black white as she stood beside him. His body was still wavering when a boy of Sarah's age entered whistling but the whistling stopped shortly.

'Hmm, A guy who supports me? Guess he has yet to be born.' Can't blame her. Her love life has always been shitty which made her now have major trust issues. The wavering man's unstable building collapsed on her and she squinted to minimize the destruction of herself. Well, the body was caught midair by the boy and she glanced up at him.

(DING)[The elevator closing]

OMG – an arrow (of destruction of single girls) straight from heaven struck her on her heart. 'A guy who supports me…' Josh looked like a masterpiece painting in his T-shirt and cargo. Her eyes went wide like an owl gawking in the daylight. She had never seen him outside the school anyways. 'BUT, AM LOOKING FINE?' She brushed her hair back. He leaned the baseless building back to the elevator wall.

Josh usually visited his dad on Weekends, who was a Head Doctor at that hospital which gave him an invisible upper hand in roaming around the Hospital. Nobody would mind even if he wandered into an Operation Theatre. His whistles died down when he saw a peculiar owl gawking at him after the leaning tower of pisa was about to fall on her and the rest is history.

[DING]

'BUT, AM I LOOKING FINE?' he brushed his hair back. He had seen such a nice scene early in the morning. Well, the rest of the day should go fine.

"Hello." He smiled. Well, he should hit when the opportunity is there.

"Hello and Bye…"

"What? Why?"

[DING] [elevator closing] and she was gone. Did she already read his diary? She walked so fast. Ok~ she did. She just wanted to get away from him. He felt like a child who was offered his favorite candy and then it was suddenly snatched from him. He pouted and the drunken man wished him luck before collapsing for a sweet slumber in the elevator.

He was quite familiar with all the hospital staff as his father had been working there since eternity. He sweetly approached a friendly Nurse in an attempt to draw out some information on why Sarah was there in the hospital while Sarah entered a room and clicked the door shut. Now that she has read his Notebook that she brought back home, she found him creepy…, handsomely creepy…, attractively creepy.

It was a diary in which he wrote about his daily affairs, ever since he started coming to this school. But, it was more of a confession for her written in a daily basis. After reading it, she started seeing him in a different light as mentioned above. (Handsomely and Attractively creepy) His writings were quite mature and were supportive of her actions and feelings in his point of view.

'Urgh, I should have just left it as it is. When I saw that the book belonged to him, I got curious about the content and his character. But, as the saying goes, 'curiosity killed the cat.' Here it applies like, curiosity killed her sleep. 'I will never sneak a peek at others diary ever again!!' that's why she threw the book in trash. But this book was no ordinary book to be thrown in the trash.
