"Um… I think I will skip out for today…." said Su Ran to the woman in front of her from outside of the car.
"What?! You are not coming? Are you kidding me? Our customers are waiting. NOW you tell me you are not going?" The woman was very surprised at Su Ran's words.
"I am not kidding. It's, um, I got a stomachache all of a sudden. I am so sorry…" Su Ran pulled her hand out from the other woman's grip as she feigned a painful look.
"Are you sure?" The woman looked at Su Ran dubiously, "The customers today live in Dongshan. This is a good opportunity. Don't say I didn't remind you of it. On top of that, if you bail out now, you are not going to get your table fees today."
"I understand. I understand. I want to make a few dollars more too. It's just… such bad timing. Hong-jie…."
"Fine. Fine. Whatever." She interrupted Su Ran rudely and indifferently got inside the car with the few other women who were standing next to her.
BAM!
"Ungrateful thing!"
Su Ran could hear that coming from Hong-jie as the car door slammed shut.
The woman's words made Su Ran feel awkward, but not angry.
So what if she was called a name in the face of losing her life?
Although Su Ran had no idea how she'd die if she attended the customers' event with Hong-jie, but she knew for sure that she'd doom herself to an early death today if she went. That's what it said in the original novel after all.
In her real life, Su Ran was a musician. She had been composing a song recently. Once this song was completed, it might rock the world and become her best work yet. Unfortunately, she died from lack of sleep over a long period of time right next to her piano when she was only halfway through the song.
When Su Ran woke up again, she discovered that she had transmigrated into a romance novel recommended to her by her little assistant.
She had transmigrated at the story arc where the original novel had already ended.
The original novel ended with the wealthy and handsome male lead marrying the competent female lead who was born to an average family. They were living together happily and had a pair of twins – a boy and a girl.
Meanwhile, all the crimes committed by wealthy girl Su Ran, the number one villain female supporting character who had the same name as her, had come to light. She was hated by all, banished from the extended family, and also dragged her parents down with her. Finally, even though "Su Ran" didn't die, her ending was worse than death. She was raped, scarred, and became a bargirl at the red-light district by her own accord.
At the very end of the novel, there was an extra chapter on the male and female leads' pair of twins. A crazy, demented villain decided to harass the daughter of the female lead unprovoked and ended up beeing beaten up badly by the female lead's son. The name of this boss villain was Su Han, son of Su Ran.
This was just an extra chapter at the very end; there weren't a lot of mentioning of Su Ran in the book.
There was a blurb about her in the extra chapter. There was a flashback to ten years ago. Su Han was tricked by his friend to a special banquet. During the banquet, 12-year-old Su Han witnessed the entire scene where his so-called mother was insulted to death. That was the beginning of his twisted and demented self.
And, this was the exact moment that Su Ran had transmigrated into the novel.
No matter if she would one day be able to return back to her own world and no matter whether there were other reasons that caused the boss villain to be twisted, right now, for the sake of her own life, Su Ran could not go down that path.
As for what would happen after she had altered the story arc at this critical moment, nobody could say for sure…
Looking at the minivan that was slowing disappearing from her field of vision, Su Ran looked on blankly.
A breeze went by, and Su Ran shuddered.
It was already April in City Bei, and the night was at least over 10 degrees Celsius, but Su Ran was still in the original owner's "work clothes" – a half transparent spaghetti strap top with a short skirt that just covering her buttocks – not the most efficient outfit in keeping her warm.
Putting her arms around herself and rubbing her upper arms, Su Ran turned and walked toward the other end of the block.
This was not the direction to go back to her apartment, but from the memory of the original owner, there was a pedestrian street over there.
In the real world, Su Ran's daily routine was all taken care of by her assistants and all her clothes were custom made. Ergo, whether it was in the past or right now, Su Ran was not familiar with any clothing brands, their quality, or their pricing.
She saw a shop with a large sign that said "SALE". Weighting against the remaining money in the original owner's bank account, Su Ran walked inside without hesitation.
When a tall woman like her walked into a shop, she immediately attracted the attention of the store clerk.
Nonetheless, when the store clerk saw Su Ran's "work clothes", she immediately put on a look of disgust. Sure, they may both work for a salary, but one could still look down on a woman of a special profession.
Ignoring the look from the store clerk, Su Ran walked over to where the sale rack was and quickly picked out and changed into a set of normal-looking clothes. She then proceeded to throwing away the original owner's original outfit without hesitation.
"Excuse me, is there a restroom here?" asked Su Ran after she paid for the outfit.
"Our restroom is for employees only, but you can find it in the mall across the street."
"I see. Thanks."
Su Ran still had on thick makeup and strong perfume.
She really should go home and take a shower, but she didn't have the time right now.
Luckily, the original owner was so poor that she could only afford poor quality cosmetics, not the kind that "won't come off or smear-proof". Su Ran could wash them off easily with the soap in the mall's restroom.
After drying her face, Su Ran looked at the face in the mirror that looked sixty percent like herself but with brighter features and sighed.
She was finally able to feel more normal.
There was a 4-centimeter long scar on her forehead that was left there when she was being banished by her family. A scar like that on a face this pretty was pretty much the equivalent of being defaced.
Luckily, in the real word, Su Ran was a single woman who could support herself with her own skills. She was not obsessed over her looks like the original owner.
Looking at the time, Su Ran quickly walked out of the restroom.
Su Ran waved down a taxi after she had walked out of the mall, "Please take me to Dongshan Court."
"Dongshan Court? You mean the one by the seaside park?" The taxi driver repeated in disbelief after Su Ran had given him her destination.
The taxi driver had been driving around for over ten years and had a pretty good idea what kind of a place was Dongshan Court. That wasn't a place for just anyone. He did notice that his passenger had a decent look and makings, but her outfit told him that she couldn't have anything to do with those who came in and out of Dongshan Court.
"Miss, that's not a place for just anybody and it's really late in the night right now. It might not be safe for you to go there on your own," said the taxi driver as he thought to himself, I hope she wasn't going there for any shady business.
"Thank you for your concern. I just want to go there to pick up my kid," said Su Ran indifferently.
She was, of course, referring to Su Han, her son.
Yes, she had declined Hong-jie to go "work" that banquet where she'd die of shame. She might be able to alter the original owner's decision, but she couldn't affect the others.
Her instant son was still going to be at the banquet.
Whether it was Su Ran herself, or "Su Ran" the original owner, neither one of them were familiar with this son. Nonetheless, now that Su Ran had taken over the body and knowing what was going to happen in the future, she couldn't possibly pretend she didn't know anything and let a perfectly fine young man of the country turn to the dark side.
Without Su Ran being there, the story arc of "witnessing the mother dying from insults" would not take place, but the banquet was still going to happen. If it wasn't the death of "Su Ran", there would be other "highlights" performed by other workers. What if witnessing that still laid a seed in Su Han's heart that would pave the path of him becoming a twisted individual?
Su Ran wanted to take her son away before the start of the "special event".
Granted, according to the inertia of the novel, there was a chance that the villain boss of the book would still turn dark for whatever reasons in the next 10 years….
Back to the current time, the taxi driver was surprised by Su Ran's words.
The girl looked about the same age as his own daughter, but she already has a child? And, judging from her words, the kid was not that young either.
He thought to himself that perhaps this girl was some tutor or nanny for some wealthy family.
The more he thought about it, the more he thought that must be pretty close to the truth. As such, he didn't say much more to Su Ran for the rest of their way there.
"Miss, we are here. This is as far as I can go. I will have to let you out here," said the taxi driver as he parked outside the main gate of Dongshan Court.
"Okay, that works."
After she got out of the car, Su Ran started walking toward the booth by the entrance gate.
"This is private property. Can I help you?"
Naturally, she was stopped by the security guard.
"I'm going home." Su Ran purposefully put on a very unhappy look as she talked.
Then, before the security guard could say anything else, Su Ran typed in a series of numbers on the screen next to her.
[BEEP --- Welcome home.]
And the gate opened on its own.
What else could the security guard possibly say?
He wasn't blind. He saw the code that she had entered belonged to one of the very important residents there. And, it was the code that only the residents themselves would know, not even their close friends or families.
He thought she looked somewhat familiar. Was she a resident here that had some mishap tonight?
Ahem. As a professional security guard, he would not pry into the resident's personal lives.

On the other hand, Su Ran had already arrived at the center mansion part following the original owner's memory.
Almost sixty percent of the wealthy live in Dongshan Court, including the Su's. This was where "Su Ran" grew up since she was a little child. Naturally, she couldn't be more familiar with this place.
The first two years after the original owner was banished from the Su's, she'd still return from time to time to beg for forgiveness. Except she was never let in.
If the original owner hadn't disappeared for almost ten years and the security guards hadn't gone through a few batches, she probably wouldn't even be able to get through the gate.
Luckily, Su Ran only had the original owner's memories, not her feelings.
Looking at one of the tallest mansions in the center area, Su Ran turned away emotionlessly before heading toward another one on the left-hand side.
The Gu's, whether it was then or now, was still a place that Su Ran wanted to avoid.
Thinking about her instant son, who was already inside, Su Ran scratched her head with a headache coming on. She lowered her head and picked up her speed marching forward. Naturally, she did not notice the look coming from inside of a car behind her.
