The group followed Tere who in turn was following the assistant showing them around the campus. The mentors did not seem very interested as they probably knew all about this place already. Sonya was not interested at all either, unbeknownst to the rest of the group that had no idea she had practically grown up at the college. Samuel, Erica and Ulma however took all their sightseeing seriously. Amazed at the size of this place and the magical wonders that must take place inside.
The group walked on for quite some time, ending the tour only when it was on the brink of darkness, it had been such a massive place to look around. The tour was not quite over yet, the assistant instructed them all to follow to see where they would be staying.
It made Samuel happy, finally he could get his own room where he would be free to spend his time however he wanted, only to become really confused when they were brought to what looked like a small shack among a residential area. "The student living areas are all located here, while the professors and mentors all have on the opposite side of the island." The assistant said with a smile.
"Is this not a bit small for four people? Also I am a guy and is it really okay for me to stay with three ladies?" Samuel chimed in really quick. He noticed all people present either facepalm or look at him like he was insane.
"No you idiot, they are bigger on the inside and with separate rooms of course!" Bregane snarled and gave his hopeless apprentice a whack in the head. Mostly because the other mentors had looked from Samuel to Bregane, thinking he was the one to blame for Samuel's stupidity. In a way he was, he had never explained that part of training facilities being larger on the inside. But he tried to cover it up and save his reputation by blaming his apprentice for being an idiot.
It worked on all people present except Tere who he felt was still staring at him, but he just looked forward and tried ignoring her stare, feeling a droplet of sweat slowly running down and he just smiled looking straight forward.
Eventually she turned her attention back as they were entering the small shack. Samuel became flabbergasted when he saw the inside, it was one huge lower floor, with a kitchen, dining area and living room taking up most of the first floor. It was just one big rectangular shape on the inside, with what looked like storage rooms in the back.
There were also pillars supporting half a second floor. Where the main part consisted of kitchen and living room to the right, on the left instead was the staircase leading up to the second floor. That they could see consisted of four separate rooms.
The rooms were even larger than the ones at the Nicodravi academy and they came with way more luxuries, shower and bath function, dependable plumbing system. (On earth this would be a high standard apartment sized into four large rooms with a luxury ski resort cabin on the first floor)
Samuel could not help but whisper wow to himself and smile, he clenched his hand and sighed. Finally the road to revenge was not so long anymore. The four of them quickly split up in different rooms, Samuel taking the first on the left and Erica quickly taking the one first on the right, thereby mimicking the way they had been neighbours at Nicodravi academy. Sonya took the second on the left and Ulma the second on the right.
Samuel did not miss the last glare that Sonya and Ulma threw eachother. The four of them quickly unpacked whatever things they had brought with them and took a quick look around their rooms, before finally returning to their masters that were waiting downstairs with the assistant long gone at that point.
Samuel was actually last to return down, while the rest were already seated at the large dining table mostly in silence while the mentors were talking. Tere took the initiative probably because the others respected her the most. "Well the four of us have our own place to stay, but make no mistake. During most of your regular classes we will be there with you as assistant teachers, so the four of you better get to know eachother and be nice!" Tere added the last word with a slight hint of hostility seeping out as she looked at Sonya and Ulma in particular.
She gave Samuel a look that he had no idea what it meant, making her roll her eyes. "Most of your days will be regular classes, the 6th day of every week is your only day off to not have any classes, and the 5th and 7th will be the days you only train with us mentors. The other days are going to be regular classes for most of the year." Tere smiled at them all now, seemingly just as excited as the four apprentices which made them appreciate her more. There was something like a dear sibling or parent that one could look up to in her.
"You all will need to learn basics when living here by the way!" Tere said with an evil smile making both Sonya and Erica tense up, Ulma twisted a bit in her chair the only one that did not get shocked by that was Samuel who quickly realized that food was part of it during school time, but not every day was school time since they had a day off.
He raised his hand a little before asking, "I got no problem with that, I can even imagine making dinner time meals for myself since this place has an entire kitchen and all I kind of figured that out already!" Which made the other three look at him weirdly. "Well I mean why else give us a kitchen and everything?" He asked when he saw them looking at him which made them nod in a sudden realization of 'ah that makes sense' but it did not help their feelings.
"All I want to know is where and how I get what I need to make food?" Samuel quickly asked Tere who pointed on a map that was on the wall where he needed to go to get food supplies. "Thanks!" Samuel nodded as he took out a book and wrote some quick notes using a water writing cantrip, which surprisingly made all the other three look at him really surprised. "What? Its just a cantrip?" Samuel shrugged as he saw everyone stare at him except Bregane who smiled to himself.
The basic magic was key in his teachings and even for tasks others saw as trivial those with cantrip expertise could make their own life so much easier. 'Mix a little bit of earth and fire with the water and you get something pretty close to magical ink.' Samuel had never forgotten those words. It was even better than ink because it did not deteriorate when it was solid. It was like mixing science and magic in a way he had no idea he was doing as of yet.
"There should be plenty of food and extra supplies already stocked however." Tere said as soon as she gathered herself again, the cantrip had even stunned her because it was so simple yet useful, she grabbed Bregane's hand and gave it a heartful squeese with a smile.
Samuel got up and walked over to check everything, what confused him the most was the big black rectangular box that felt cold to the touch, he pulled what looked like a handle to realize he had just found a magical version of a freezer and fridge next to it. He looked back with his mouth wide open and his eyes shining.
Making most people wonder about the idiot that seemed to good at cantrips not knowing about freezing and chilling things with cold and ice especially when built as constructs.
The four mentors had a few more basic things to explain, but it did not take too long - and soon enough their mentors took their leave for the evening, leaving the four youths sitting at the table looking at eachother from time to time in silence wondering about who would speak first or do something first. Erica found comfort in the fact that Samuel was mostly just writing shit down about everything new he was learning.
