First And Last Boyfriend

ECHID

"You called for me, Your Imperial Highness?" Echid bowed down to the Emperor in reverence.

King Adamos and the other Royal Ministers have already left, leaving the Emperor, his royal servants, and himself in the throne room.

The Emperor, calling for his attention, surprised him, because he isn't used to him doing it.

The Emperor was rubbing his beard as if he had some deep thoughts before he faced Echid again, "Observe the two ladies and report it to me, especially Lady Evie," he ordered.

"Most certainly, sire," Echid responded at once.

The Emperor stood up and was about to leave. However, Echid couldn't help but ask, "Forbid me for asking, your Excellency. But do you think she is Hyouka, the prophesied Queen of Edin?"

With his question, the Emperor immediately responded and faced him, "I will know. That's the reason you must disclose every detail of their activities with me."

Like lightning, Echid made a formal bow as he said in a submissive tone. "You are certain to hear about it the first thing in the morning, Your Royal Imperial Highness."

With that the Emperor left the throne room with his own royal guards.

One of the servants told Echid that the ladies were in one of the tearooms having their breakfast, so he immediately went there, planning to chat with them and get information for the Emperor.

True enough, they were inside and sitting on one of the tables. Both of their backs were facing the door.

Some servants were with them, assisting them with their needs. They were the only people there, perhaps trying to avoid commotion after their heated conversation with the Emperor.

As soon as he opened the door, he heard Lady Evie speaking. "There is no problem with the plane. There is a change in the weather's composition that caused the malfunctioning of the instruments -"

She continued explaining to Lady Joyce, who kept on nodding her head while her hand reached out for the munchkins on their table. Her cheeks continued to chomp on some food.

Echid's body posture perked up. He recalled how Lady Evie exchanged views with the Emperor intelligently, a scene which he hadn't seen even in his lifetime.

And now here she was, passionately sharing about something that she seemed to have expert knowledge about. 'Are all humans like her?' A smile curled up his lips.

Echid went to the buffet table and grabbed a piece of fruitcake and put it on a plate before sitting down beside Lady Evie.

"So that's how you landed here?" he smiled at her with his mouth and eyes, making her pause from talking and look down before she focused on her food.

"Greetings, Your grace," Lady Joyce immediately stood up and bowed down to him, glaring at Lady Evie to do the same, which she reluctantly did.

"Just call me Echid. There are no royalties around here." Echid waved his hand in the air with a burst of jolly laughter, hoping it would dismiss the uncomfortable atmosphere before pointing at the food on Joyce's plate. "Do you like it?"

Joyce's head abruptly bobbed up and down as she responded, "It's heavenly. I don't know how they made the cream. I haven't tasted it before."

"It's called Ruan cheese, made from the Ruans in the Ligeia Forest," Echid answered her and explained what Ruans are, animatedly, making Lady Joyce laugh.

Lady Joyce isn't hard to get along with as the conversation with her passed smoothly. Unlike Lady Evie, who seemed like a turtle who went back on her shell as soon as she learned that there were other people with them.

She was quietly sipping on her drink when Echid tried to nudge her on. "So what was that thing with the weather again? Maybe I can be of help."

It seemed like it sparked her interest as she began to talk again. "Well, it appeared like a fast streak hole. But I know it is not, because there are no altocumulus clouds or cirrocumulus clouds -" she continued on.

"I see," Echid responded as he faced her, his leg crossed over his other one, the back of his hand under his chin, appearing interested.

To be honest, he didn't understand what she was saying. But she looked lovely with her arms crossed over under her chest, her saffron eyes looking sideways, her dark eyebrows knitting together as she constructed the thoughts in her head.

She seemed to be explaining something that no ordinary being knew, making Echid's eyes sparkle.

"You don't have to pretend that you understand a word that I say, your grace," her tan-colored lips uttered before she zipped it, bringing him back to reality.

"I do, I do," he replied with a chuckle as he gulped on his own tea to hide his embarrassment for not listening well.

Recalling the purpose of why he was there, he decided to change the topic, "But I think the King can help you better than I can."

"I think so, too," Lady Joyce butted in. "He's like a Prince Charming in real life. I wonder why he doesn't have a Queen yet."

Echid's eyes lit up as it was the best time to sort Lady Evie out. "Would you like to be the Queen then, Lady Joyce?"

He asked him in a friendly tone. He was planning to ask Lady Evie next when Lady Joyce answered with a dreamy look, "I would love to."

Lady Evie was quietly eating her share. But when Lady Joyce said that, her eyes quickly glanced at her before she went back to her food.

However, it was only momentary because Lady Joyce said something that made Lady Evie stand up from her seats.

"But I would love Evie to do that role. She doesn't have a boyfriend since birth. It would be so romantic if her first and last boyfriend is the King," she gave a warm and empathetic gaze at Evie, who seemed to be perplexed by her statement.

With Lady Evie's cheeks red with uneasiness, she stood up and walked out.

"Oh no, what did I just do? Lady Evie! Forgive me, your grace, I will just talk to her," Lady Joyce ran after her as soon as she realized what she had just said.

Echid was left behind with a mysterious smile, an idea forming in his mind.
