TITLE: I BECAME GOD BY LEVELING UP

CHAPTER 1: INHERITANCE

Humans have always been curious and fascinated by space. Though they knew little about the vast expanse of space, they tried their best to study it through different means. They started by using the stars in the night to guide their travels as they sailed the vast ocean. Then they discovered a way to get a glimpse of space with the help of a tool they invented called.

'TELESCOPE' Humans had found a way to make objects far away appear closer with the use of this invention they made. And because of it, they discovered something new that expanded their minds. There were other worlds or planets out there in space.

This discovery made humans more curious about the unknown things that were out there. As centuries passed, humans discovered different things about space. They discovered the solar system, a smaller part of the vast galaxy, and a smaller part of the forever-expanding universe.

To Humans space was a treasure trove with infinite opportunities. But they would come to know of the horrors that lurked in it.

—---------------------------

A dark-haired young man lay asleep on the hard ground of a dark cold passageway. He groaned in discomfort as he tossed and turned on the cold floor. After tossing and turning, he noticed that his bed felt different…

"Ugh... Dammit, that bastard landlord told me that the bed was still good when I paid 300k won for rent."

He complained after remembering the lie the landlord told him the night before while he was moving in. Though the rent was high, it was the only apartment he could get this cheap in Seoul. He sat up and opened his eyes, but he could not see a single thing in the dark.

"Huh…? What's going on? I'm pretty sure I left the lights on before I slept… wait, don't tell me the electricity in the building is also bad."

His forehead furrowed as he clenched his right hand into a fist and slammed the ground.

*Bang! *

*Crack! *

"Aaargh! Fuck…! my hand… my fucking hand."

He yelled in pain while grasping onto his broken wrist. With the shock from the pain, his sleepy eyes began to adapt to the darkness. Then he realized that what he hit was a hard floor, not a bed, and He was no longer in his tiny apartment. He stood up hastily from the ground, glanced around, and noticed solid, black-colored walls on his left, right, below, and above him.

"... Where the hell am I?"

He began to panic as he realized that he was in a completely dark, quiet, and cold passage. Then a thought came to him. The only reason people find themselves in a different place after sleeping is. that they got kidnapped, isekai'd, or died. But since he could still feel pain, it meant he was not dead. Then he was left with two options: he was either kidnapped or isekai'd. But being kidnapped was a more feasible option because. Bad luck has plagued him his entire life, so something like going to another world would never happen to an unlucky person like him.

He also knew that ordinary kidnappers wouldn't kidnap him because he had nothing of value except his title as heir of Jang pharmaceutical, which he was meant to inherit at twenty according to his father's will.

"Dan Sang- Hee you bitch. Forcing me to sign away my inheritance wasn't enough for you, huh? What…? Now you want to get rid of me?"

Believing that his current situation was his stepmother's doing, Jang Jeong cursed angrily in a loud voice as his breaths quickened. Though he spoke with confidence, he was still scared because he knew what type of person Dan sang- Hee was.

"Silence huh…? Did you think kidnapping me and throwing me in a dark place like this will scare me? Think again."

Jang Jeong yelled again, trying to get a reply from his kidnappers, but all he got was silence. Then he thought, since they placed him in a passageway, they must want to lead him somewhere. After realizing that, he sneered before saying. "Since you want to play games, I'll play with you."

Jeong decided to follow his imaginary kidnapper's plans as he started walking down the dark passageway with determination in his eyes.

*************** TWO DAYS LATER*************

*THUD! *

Jeong fell to his knees, exhausted, starving, and thirsty. He could barely walk anymore, and it's been two days since he started walking down the dark passageway. But he still couldn't find the exit. His broken wrist had already begun to swell, bringing him severe pain. Without any first-aid supplies, he could only use a piece of cloth he tore from his shirt to wrap around his wrist, but it still didn't help.

"Why… are you… doing this… to me? If you want… me dead… just do it. But if you… want me to beg for my life…"

Jeong spoke in a faint voice. although unlucky things happened to him often, Jeong was never beaten down. Even when his father died, and he was forced to sign away his inheritance, Jeong continued to struggle. So, something like hunger and thirst would not bring him down. He raised his left hand and showed a middle finger before yelling. "Go… fuck yourself!!!"

*Stomp! *

"Keuk…!"

Jeong stood up from his knees and continued to search for the exit even when his body was tired and in pain. He rather died searching for a way out than wait to die.

—-------------

"10500…

10501…

10502…"

Jeong counted as he continued to walk down the passageway. Because of how dark the passage was, he could not tell the passing of time. So, he started to count the seconds as he walked. Even when he knew talking wasted his energy, he did it anyway because it was the only way he could stay sane.

—--------

"11000…"

As time passed, Jeong felt his body getting weaker. His legs were shaky, and his eyes felt heavier. He knew he was about to lose consciousness. He tried to hold on to his consciousness, but it began slipping away.

"Are you going to stop after making it this far…? I guess I had high hopes."

Jeong flinched as he heard a silent whisper in his mind. He looked around, but he did not find who spoke. He raised his hand and placed it on his forehead. And tilted his head upward.

"Kyhahahaha…! I am hearing voices now. I guess I am going insane." He laughed.

Jeong thought the voice he heard was the start of his mind breaking. His swollen hand had gotten worse, and he had caught a fever. Which had weakened his mind and will. His vision became blurry, and his footing became unstable. He was going to collapse any second. He turned to his right and faced the wall.

"Arghhhhhhhh…" he yelled.

Jeong decided that he rather die than lose his mind, so he ran towards the wall expecting to hit it headfirst and die, but he passed right through it.

*SPLASH! *

After passing through the wall with his momentum, he trips and falls face flat into the floor of water. Jeong quickly raised his head out of the water, gasping for air. It surprised him after raising his head; the surrounding had changed.

Unlike the dark passageway, this place was bright and large, though the ground was covered in water. He had nothing to complain about when he was thirsty. He scooped the water with his left hand and drank it and felt revived.

"Ahhh… this is refreshing."

He continued to gulp down the water happily, as it has been a few days or weeks since he had anything to drink.

"I SEE YOU MADE IT, HUMAN."

The unknown voice shocked Jeong, causing him to fall on his back. He noticed that his broken wrist did not hurt from the impact of his fall, but he had no time to think of that because in front of him was a gigantic tree that stretched into space, and it connected its branches to different stars. He had no words to describe it. "Woah… that's one enormous tree."

"Fascinating… isn't it?" The unknown voice said

Jeong traced where the voice was coming from with his ears. He noticed the voice coming from the bottom of the tree. But he was too far away to see who was speaking.

"Who… who are you? Are you the one that brought me here?"

Jeong dismissed the fact that his stepmother kidnapped him after he saw the giant tree. He knew there that there was no way that woman could bring him to such a beautiful place. And even if she knew about it, he was sure she would have cut and sold pieces of the tree.

But he was more curious about the identity of the unknown voice.

"... Who am I? Hahaha… I have long forgotten what my real name was. But I know who you are and what you would become… Jang Jeong."

The unknown voice's words surprised and confused Jeong at the same time. He thought about what type of person forgets their own name but remembers someone else's. Jeong began to suspect the strange voice of being a scammer. He has read this type of scenario in novels where the unknown voice says the main character will become strong if he lets them in his body then they try to take over his body. Jeong had read a lot of novels to not fall for such obvious tricks. But he was curious about what the strange voice said.

"So, what would I become?" Jeong asked

"KYAHAHAHA… YOU WILL BECOME MY SUCCESSOR AND INHERIT ALL MY POWER!"
