Memories

I woke up with a very bad headache. I tried to remember what happened last night but the aches seemed to intensify.

"What happened last night", I asked myself.

The memories I had of yesterday were so short it seemed like yesterday didn't happen.

I went into the bathroom to take a shower. As the first drops of hot water touched my body I began to have blurred flashbacks that scared me a bit.

I walked around like I had lost something for a while then I freshened up and went downstairs to have my breakfast. As usual the dining table was the same as every day. My mum sat on my dad's chair for the time being. My sister sat opposite me as she glued her eyes to her phone while she ate. Then my brother sat beside me. Yes I have a brother

"How are you feeling now dear", my mum asked sounding as caring as possible.

"I'm ok, just a bad headache", I replied as I sat down.

"Sorry dear, take some pain killers from the drawer when you're done with your food ok", she said as she placed my plate in front of me.

"Ok mum", I replied.

My sister, Lisa, didn't say a word until she left the table. Seems like she was still upset about something. I looked at my brother, Dave, when I finished eating and he immediately got the message, pick up my plates.

I got out of the house and went to the AST(Automatic sphere transporter) on the other side of the road cause the Power bus hadn't arrived yet.

I got to school earlier than normal and signed on the register. When I got to class , I had a strange feeling about the place. It was like something was wrong but I couldn't tell.

I sat on my seat and took my pain killers hoping the headache would reduce. I waved at Stephen but didn't say a word to him. I guess he immediately understood that something was wrong.

Four hours passed and I still hadn't spoken to anyone. It was time for lunch and I went to the cafeteria like I was being controlled or something. I decided to eat solo today cause of the headache. I sat on my chair and began eating the Burgers mum ordered this morning as I stared at the fire hydrant on the other side of the cafeteria. Stephen spotted me and sat beside me but I didn't turn or say a word to him.

"Hey Luis , what's up. You've been unusually quiet today, I mean I haven't heard you say a word today", he said as he tried to eat his turkey sandwich.

"Nothing's wrong, just a headache that's all", I replied still looking at the hydrant.

"Look dude, y'know you can talk to me if there is something wrong", he said with a mouth stuffed with his sandwich.

"Honestly, I don't know dude I've been trying to figure it out but the headache makes it hard", I replied as I ate an apple.

"It's unlike you I mean you never wave at me without saying something and even though I'm the one that talks a lot you always talk first. And I know you cannot go four hours without talking to me. Plus Samantha was looking at you a lot today it almost looked like she was surprised to see you like she had this worrying look on her face and you didn't even look at her once", he said as he tried to pick a turkey wrap on the floor.

"Did you do something to her?", he asked

I had already lost him at Samantha. I sprang up like a lost meerkat. The mention of her name had rang a bell in my head. I turned to Stephen and held his shoulders.

"Where's Samantha?", I asked as I held him firmly.

"She's right over there, in fact she was looking at us not too long ago and my shoulders ,dude grip", he replied looking confused.

I let go of him and rushed to Samantha as fast as I could, somehow it felt like I wasn't even even walking. I got to her table and sat in front of her. We stared at each other for more than a minute before she eventually broke the silence.

"Hey, how are you doing", she asked as she put on a very caring smile.

"I'm good, just a headache",I replied still staring into her eyes.

"Oh sorry, have you taken some pain killers", she asked trying to sound as caring and normal as possible.

"Yeah I have. Y'know for someone you just met yesterday you are sounding a lot more caring than normal", I said inquisitively

"No that's not it, I'm just acting like a normal friend would, besides we are friends right", she replied.

"Hmm. Why do I have a feeling you are hiding something cause since I came to school today everything around me has felt very strange and I've had short memories of yesterday that I can't remember a thing about yesterday night", I said as I pushed my head closer to hers.

"Wait you seriously can't remember what happened yesterday", she asked as she shifted back a bit

"Nope not a thing", I replied.

"Ok I'll tell you", she said as she heaved a big sigh.

As she told me everything that happened yesterday, I began to remember everything. The fire, the bet, the power core, my dream, my dad's call, everything slowly came back to me and at that moment it seemed my headache increased and all I wanted to do was let out that scream I wanted to last night but before I could she covered my mouth with hers.

"Don't freak out, but I also took you to your house", she said with her head down.

"Hold up, you took me to my house, you know my house", I said whispering forcefully.

"Yeah , it's a pretty big house and your school ID card was with you somehow",she replied.

"How did you get to my room, how did you pass all the AI security", I asked still confused.

"You do not wanna know", she replied," but all I can say is ropes and hands"

"So I actually got burnt up yesterday but I didn't die", I asked as I felt a bit tensed.

"I don't know how you are still alive but you are and I had a hard time sleeping yesterday with the fact that I was involved in the killing of the first son of The Vertrans but when I saw you today I was relieved", she said as she tried to sound extremely calm.

"Wow it's nice to see that you were worried about me", I said as I finally put on a smile today.

"I wasn't worried about you, I was worried about myself I can't be going to jail at this age yet, I have a life to live", she replied as she smiled too.

"Alright then, later", I said as I left her table.

I laughed to myself cause I was still trying to process whether that happened last night. Was I actually on fire but didn't die? I went back to my table looking happier than when I left.

"You sure look happy", Stephen said followed by a wink.

I looked at him and laughed a bit. I mean who couldn't have been happy. I was almost burnt to death but I'm alive this morning plus no side effects. What's the worst that could happen?

"Oh sh*t dude your sleeve's on fire", Stephen exclaimed as he jumped up and poured a bottle of water on me.

I turned to see my sleeve on fire before Stephen put it out. Then the fire alarm went on and there was water all over me. What just happened!
