Regina and I sat together in the hospital room, reminiscing about what took place on my birthday.
"I can't believe you got a new car. Moreover, I can't believe you did that to Dexter."
She laughed so hard that she started coughing.
"Be careful."
I quickly grabbed a glass of water and handed it to Regina. She was still so full of energy that she forgot she was in a hospital room.
Regina drank the glass of water and continued talking.
"How did you like my gift?" Regina asked.
"It is lovely, thank you."
The friendship necklace she gave me was more valuable than the car and the villa, but it didn't suppress the gifts Kelly and the others gave me.
"Listen, I'm going out of the country for a few days," I said.
"I understand. You're going to visit your old friend?"
Regina asked, and I nodded.
"It must be tough, having to watch your loved one die and leave you behind. It must be torture."
"Yes... Speaking of torture, I wish I could have helped you with your leg, but..."
"Yeah, I know. If you used your powers to heal me, you'd get into trouble. I'm fine healing the long way around. Besides, it's perfect."
"Perfect? I don't understand."
"Don't you see? I don't have to go to school, and I get to lay back and watch TV all day."
"So you enjoy being with a broken leg and ruptured organs... are you... a masochist?" I asked.
"No, no! I don't mean it like that. Jeez, get your mind out of the gutter."
I laughed a little.
"Hey, stop laughing. This is serious."
"I'm sorry. Still though, before I leave, I should at least give you something. Give me your hand."
"Ah, sure."
She gave me her right hand, and I held it in both of mine.
"There."
"What did you give me?"
"Take a look."
Regina opened her hand and saw my crest in her palm. It vanished before Regina could fully comprehend what it was.
"Woah, what did you give me?"
"It's nothing special."
I explained the function of the crest to her, and she understood it pretty well.
"Cool. Does this mean I've become immortal?"
"No, you're still human. It's to protect you from life-threatening danger."
I held her hand again.
"I wouldn't want anything to happen to my beloved friend," I said with a smile.
Regina got flustered. "Please, you don't have to be so sentimental," she said.
"For those who I care about, I can be sentimental, but I can also be cold, cruel, and ruthless."
I got up from my seat and kissed Regina on the forehead.
"Stay safe, my friend. I'll return in a few days."
"Okay, bring a souvenir back for me."
"Sure."
I put on my jacket and left the hospital. Silvia was by the car, waiting for me, while a group of passersby stopped to admire my car.
Silvia opened the door for me.
"Butterfly doors!"
"This car is neat. Wait, isn't that Roselina?"
"Dude, she's hot and super cute."
"Yeah, she's sixteen and doesn't look a day over fourteen."
People stared at me. I got in the car, and Silvia closed the door for me. She got in the driver's seat and started the car.
We headed to the airport.
Kelly, Diane, Debra, and the twins were there.
"Are... are you sure you don't want me to come with you?" Debra asked shyly, so I patted her head.
"It's okay. I want you to continue going to school. I wouldn't want to mess up your studies," I said.
"Tio, Tia, you too as well."
"Yes, we will do as you command."
"Please leave everything to us," they said.
"Mistress, please be careful. If you run into trouble, don't hesitate to call," Kelly said.
"Don't worry, I'll be by her side if you—"
"You know what I mean, Silvia."
The two started staring at each other, and to break up the staring contest, I spoke:
"Don't worry, Kelly, I'll be fine. I promise," I said with a smile.
"Okay, mistress. I have faith in you."
I turned and walked away.
"I'll bring back something for you. Bye."
I waved at them. We boarded a private jet—Kelly's private jet. The jet took off into the sky, and we cruised at an altitude of 15,000 ft.
"Mistress."
Silvia gave me a cup of tea. This trip was to see Mary's grave, but it was also to spend quality time with Silvia before we left. I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep, and it was smooth sailing until we arrived at Ohio State. On the runway were five black BMWs and many bodyguards.
Paul Jonestone was there to greet me. "Hey, princess, it's been a while."
"Oh, it's you... Ugh... And you are?"I asked.
He wore a face of misery, and I was confused.
"It's me, Paul Jonestone. We met at the auction party a few months ago."
"Oh, now I remember."
He's the boss of some syndicate. I heard he's gay as well.
"Kelly asked me to look after you while you're here."
"I see, thank you very much."
Silvia got angry all of a sudden. "She's asking humans to take care of my mistress. Is she looking down on me? Does she doubt my power?" Silvia whispered.
I gave her a karate chop to the head. "Listen, it's not about physical power but political power, connections, and status. This isn't like 600 years ago, where you fought with brute strength. In this world, you fight with money and status. Kelly figured it out a long time ago. Why do you think she's become so powerful that the government can't risk upsetting her? Do you understand what I am saying?" I asked.
Silvia looked at me and sighed. "I understand."
"Good. Now, let's go."
Mr. Jonestone said he'd drive us to the place where Mary was buried, but the area had been developed into rural farmland.
It's been 600 years; I understand why it would be developed.
"Wow, compared to London, this city looks...newer," I said.
There are many old buildings in and around England. My phone rang, and I answered it.
"Mistress, have you arrived safely?"
"Yes, Kelly. There is no need to worry. Silvia is by my side, and Mr. Jonestone is here as well."
"That's good to hear...By the way, Matilda dropped by the house. She has an offering to commemorate your birthday."
"I see. When we get back, I'll talk with her."
"Okay, one warning, Mistress...Whatever you do, don't use excessive force in front of Paul."
"What do you mean?"
"You'll find out sooner or later."
"Okay."
I hung up the phone. What is she saying about not fighting in front of this guy? It kind of makes me a bit nervous.
We arrived at the area where Mary used to live. It was a small country town with dry roads and farms for miles.
I got out of the car and looked around. Nothing but cabbage and corn as far as the eye could see.
"This way, Mistress?"
"Oh, okay."
I followed behind Silvia, who led me into a barn and towards a tree on a small hill.
"Hey, what are you doing on my property?"
A man came out with a shotgun, looking angry.
"Go on, get out of here! You ain't getting me to leave!" he shouted.
Paul's men pointed their guns at him, which made the man surrender.
"Woah, take it easy. I don't want any trouble," he said.
"Neither do we, sir."
I walked forward and took a bow.
"My name is Roselina Lambrosa De Valentine. I'm from London, England. A close relative of mine died on this property. I would like to pay my respects," I said.
"Well, I've been living here for 40 years, and the old person who died here was my grandmother and my wife," he said.
"Well, I have to pay my tributes."
I turned and walked away.
After Silvia pointed me to where she said Mary had been buried, I knelt down and touched the soil.
"Mary."
It's been over 600 years. I didn't even get to see you grow up, have your first child, grow old, and have grandchildren. I heard she lived to be 92 years old; that's an amazing feat.
The lifespan of humans is far too short and far too fragile, but sure enough, you wanted it this way.
I took a rose out of my coat and planted it there.
"I hope you got reincarnated into a better life," I said and stood up.
"Mistress, are you alright?" Silvia asked, and I replied with a smile.
"Yes, I'm alright now. Let's go."
I walked back to the owner of the land.
"Thank you for giving me the opportunity to pay my respects."
"Yes, sure."
"Please take this as proof of my gratitude."
Silvia gave him a stack of money, which made him happy.
He grabbed the money from Silvia and counted it. "Yeah, sure, come again anytime," he said then returned to his house.
We walked back to the car.
"Woah...Aaaaaahh, look out!"
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a boy fell out of a tree. Luckily, my quick reflexes allowed me to dodge him.
"Ow...Ow...Huh?"
He looked up at me and got a nosebleed. That asshole was peeking up my skirt. Even though I'm a guy who got reincarnated as a girl, I don't feel anything, but for some reason, it feels disgusting.
I've experienced this before; it's called lust.
"Did you find something down there, you pervert?"
I raised my foot to step on his head. The fool dodged it.
"Eeeeeek!"
He yelped as the ground beneath my foot was crushed.
"Agile punk."
"Mistress, shall I kill him for you?"
Silvia took out her two guns while leaking out her intent to kill, scaring the piss out of Paul's men.
"I'm sorry, it was an accident, I promise," he said.
"I'm sorry, I'm terribly sorry, please forgive me...eeeeeeeh!"
He yelped when Silvia pointed her gun at his head.
"Wait," I said.
"Killing him would be wrong. From the looks of it, it seems to be an accident, so put the gun down," I said.
"Understood."
The boy stood up, happy. :Thank you for your mercy. I'm—"
I kicked him in the peanuts. "Fool, I spared your life. I didn't say I would let you off the hook. I hope you remember this day the next time you look up a girl's skirt."
I walked away, leaving the boy there sobbing while holding his testicles.
We returned to the hotel where our rooms were prepared.
"Thank you for your help today, Mr. Jonestone," I said.
He turned to his men. "Leave."
And so they left. Something is off here. What is he up to?
"It's okay. You can call me Paul, because what you did to that boy..."
Wait, don't tell me he's related to that boy and wants revenge.
"What you did today was, was...was magnificeeeeeent!" He started squirming with excitement.
Eh?
