"Desolation"

"You have to be kidding me..." Gon looked terrified; he was already running low in mana, and his body was reaching its limit.

In front of him was a terrible monster that resembled a lion in the forepart, a goat in the middle, and a serpent from the tail. Everyone looked inferior as if they were ants to this beast. They could tell just by being in his mere presence.

The Chimera made a tremendous growl that gave everyone chills and fears over their bodies.

"Everyone! Ru..."

The Chimera struck Gon's stomach with the movement of his tail; the impact was so severe that Gon flew away in the air.

"There's no way we will be eaten alive!" one of the warriors said.

Kai, the shield women's, and four archers came to aid from a distance.

"Everyone covers me," Kai said while running to help Gon.

The archer shoot at the Chimera but the arrows did just a superficial wound; the monster got disgusted and threw a breath of fire, killing some of the archers with it. The shield women's protected the rest from the attack.

Kai reached Gon and gave him a stamina potion.

The stamina potion is beverage adventurers, and sorcerers use to recover mana and energy.

Though it may come in handy occasionally, the user can't drink more than three potions in one day, or it may poison their bodies and risk dying.

Gon drank the potion and told Kai to prepare; they were about to attack the Chimera in unison.

"Kai, at my signal, start running with me. I will attract the Chimera's attention, and you will try to get one of his legs. I see almost zero chance to win this fight..." Gon said.

"You said almost? Then it's not zero; Gon, if we are still alive is because of you; let me handle it from now. Don't believe in yourself. Believe in me! Believe in the Kai who believes in you. Kai said.

"You never change, don't you? When you're scared, you always find a reason to move forward; since you were little, I could see the great woman you would be in the future. Gon gently touches Kai's shoulder and smiles at her.

Gon got up, drew his katana from the scabbard, and told Kai to do the same thing. With both swords touching each other, they started to vibrate and emanate a green aura.

"Air spirits, Listen to my prey." Gon closed his eyes and spoke.

"Mant..." The green aura covered Kai and Gon's body.

"What is happening," Kai said. She could feel more power, her senses increased, and her wounds disappeared.

"It's my strongest spell; I saw you have perfect synergy with the air element, and the mana around you feels soft and pure; I can understand why the air spirits feel attracted to you. We must hurry; this will give us around ten minutes before it runs out; after that, I will be useless," Gon said.

They both start running at an unbelievable speed; Kai could feel how her body feels a lot lighter, and her perception of the world changes due to how sensible her senses become.

When they reached the battlefield, almost all the warriors were wounded, yet they still fiercely fought the monster; Gon got in front of the Chimera, and Kai ran from behind. Gon parries the first attack giving the perfect opportunity for Kai to get underneath the monster and wound his leg.

They kept repeating the strategy repeatedly, but the Chimera was barely affected.

"This isn't working; my attacks are not that strong to do significant damage," Kai said.

The beast attacked Kai with his claws by the ribs; her armor got destroyed but protected her from the attack. Gon uses it as an opportunity to attack and call for the aid of the spirit.

"Air slash!" Gon cut the Chimeras tail, and the monster counterattacked with his other claws; the fight was fierce, attack by attack. There was no time even to blink or breathe.

Both parties were having trouble; if Kai or Gon had made an error calculating their movements offensively, they would get slaughtered by the beast. The others could only watch if they tried to join the battle, they would hinder and get killed.

Kai grabbed the last explosive stone and aimed to throw it at the monster, but Gon stopped her.

"Not yet! If you throw it now, there's no guarantee it would kill him," Gon said.

Instead, Kai changed her posture and grip to a more defensive position.

"Gon, I will get his attention; find a chance to strike at the monster vision," Kai said.

"Hum? wait, that's a great plan," Gon thought.

It was easier to say than do; there were almost zero opportunities to make a perfect path to make the plan work. But Kai had a plan; she started to run in a zig-zag to catch the Chimera's attention to her.

Gon jumped in the air and prepared to throw his katana at the Chimera. While he was focusing his attention on Kai, she yelled at the warriors to step aside.

"West Wind, east breeze cover my sword. Air shoot!" Gon said while throwing his sword, penetrating one eye of the monster; the Chimera growled in pain; the beast, in despair, attacked Gon mid-air with a fire blast coming from his mouth.

Gon couldn't defend himself from the attack; instead, he focused all the green mana into his hands to abruptly severe the overall damage landing on the ground.

"Gon!" Kai screamed.

"You stupid bastard, how you dare!" Kai grabbed her sword tightly; she was angry; her sword vibrated even more potent, and her eyes were glowing with green color.

Gon got up; he was tired; the mant protection was almost running out; Gon yelled at Kai. "Stop! You don't have complete control of that ability" Kai couldn't hear Gon. She only could see the enemy in front of her.

Without thinking twice, Gon tackles Kai to the ground.

"Listen to me! are you trying to kill yourself!" Gon was bleeding from his mouth, nose, and ears.

"Gon, you are already at your limit; this is not all right" Kai looked worried; Gon was too wounded to continue battling.

The monster did not wait and attacked again with his fire breathing; one of the shield women stepped in front of Kai and Gon, looked back, and smiled before she died.

They were perplexed, Kai screamed, and Gon pushed Kai, a strong attack from the beast that landed between them.

"There is no time to sorrow! Keep focusing on the fight!" Gon said while running again; Kai, on the other hand, took her katana and threw it to Gon.

The monster tries to bite Gon with his large fangs, but two warriors jump in front and receive the attack instead, both dying in the act.

Everyone was willing to give their lives to protect their village and its people. The other warriors smiled; their comrades didn't die in vain. They let Gon approach the monster.

He jumped and evaded one of the attacks from the Chimera; Soon after, Gon stabbed the Chimera in the other eye and grabbed his sword from the other eye; then, he jumped back and yelled at Kai.

"Do it Now!" Gon said.

Kai Grabbed the last explosive stone and stuck it into the Chimera's mouth; the explosion made the beast's head turn in pieces and sent everyone flying away.

Everybody looks at where the explosion occurred, realizing that the monster was laying on the floor, dead.

"Kai, you did it!" Gon screamed with happiness.

Gon looked horrible; his body was injured from head to toe, and his bleeding was all over his body. He stared at Kai. She was helping the others to get up and help them go back inside.

"You told me you were weak, but in my eyes, I see a person willing to overcome everything that the future holds..." Gon thought and started to walk back to the village.

The bells started to ring, and people from the inside helped the wounded. People started crying in joy, sorrow, and many emotions; you couldn't tell what the reason was, perhaps it was for the people that died in battle or maybe the fact that the horror had already ended...Perhaps maybe both.

"Kai." Gon said. He looked pale and almost struggled to stand up.

"Gon, we did it; this was my first time on such a big mission; without you, I could never have come this far," Kai replied.

"Listen, tomorrow, help the villagers to repair their walls and send a message to the guild, tell them the mission was a success, use my part of the money to give these people food." Gon said.

"Let me do the same thing; these people will die if we don't help them. Winter is coming, and they are not fully prepared. I would personally send another message to our clan. I know my father would help." Kai said while getting checked by the healer of the village.

While the villagers celebrated the victory, Kai, Gon, and the others that got wounded rested in beds.

The next day Kai woke up and didn't see Gon anywhere. she wondered where he was.

"Good morning; how did you sleep?" Victor, the chief of the village, said.

"Good morning Victor, have you seen where my partner went?" Kai replied.

"If you talk about him, he went up to the hill before sunrise; he told me not to wake you up," Victor said.

"I'll go check how he is." Kai walked around the city; it looked totally different from when she first came in. The street seemed more vivid, the market opened again, and kids played around too.

Kai grinned with joy; she felt everything they fought for did his purpose; she kept walking until, after a while, she finally reached the hill; from afar, Kai saw Gon sitting on a rock, holding his katana between his arms and watching the landscape.

"There you are; I've been looking for you, as you told me. I send the messages to the guild and our clan. They will send a squadron shortly with food and provisions, isn't that great? Gon, you are the reason why we could have made this possible," Kai said.

Kai kept talking for a while but there were any answers from Gon.

"Gon...?" Kai glimpsed with tears in her eyes and started to walk; she sat next to him and held his hand, she was shaking Gon's Hand felt cold...

And so it was, an ethereal body was watching the sky with blood running through his eyes, nose, and ears, his body full of wounds but a smile on his face Kakiura Gon, adventurer rank Quattuor died that day. After using all his mana and vital energy in the fight.

To keep the mant on him and Kai for a longer time, Gon had to sacrifice his own life; he was aware of that, yet he knew it was the only way to win against the Chimera; without remorse, he gladly gave his life for a new day, for new hope. A true warrior and noble that made a new path for Kai's future.

"Gon, you once told me There's no shortcut to becoming strong. Even if you try to look strong on the outside, that thin layer will soon fall off. those words were everything I have looked up to since I was a kid... I wish I could tell you how vastly those words impacted me," Kai said while sobbing.

Suddenly her sword started to vibrate, and a green emblem appeared on the collar of her katana.

"hmm? That's the Air spirits mark; I guess they had accepted me.

She spends some hours watching the sky with Gon. Before she left, she took Gon on her back and carried him back to the village. While walking, she told him.

"You know, Gon, I think that in the end, I just care a lot about myself. I was scared to know what the others thought about me. I was afraid to get hurt, so I ran away and locked myself into my shell. I felt that as the king's daughter, I had to be perfect...I can't do anything alone. Everyone has their flaws and imperfections. I finally realize everything I was wrong about; thank you, my dear friend."

Once Kai reached the village. A squadron of the Edavane's family was waiting. They took Gon's body and put a sheet over him with the Nation emblem and the kakaiura's emblem.

As promised, they brought food and other provisions for the village. Instead of happiness and joy, people from the village gathered around Gon's body, closing their eyes and putting their hands together.

Of the shield woman started to sing a lullaby, and everybody listened;

each and everyone felt graceful with that warrior lying on the carriage; the warrior protected them from desperation and gave the village, along with others who died, faith.

After a long ride back home, Kai finally made it to her clan palace; she took a bath and went straight to the training room kai closed her eyes, drew her sword, and started to remember all the events she had gone through in the past days; she was angry yet so calm.

"Air slash!" Kai cut all the training dummies in one move. Without waiting, she jumped in the air and threw her sword as it was a lance to the floor.

"Air shoot!" the impact broke most of the floor and made the room shake; she stepped on top of the katana's pommel, air and green mana surrounding her.

She was a genius not found in years; due to her large amount of mana. There was no reason to recite the complete spell; Kai was already above Gon in terms of control and potential. This was just the start of Kai's new abilities.

With the winter tournament approaching, everybody was training and getting ready; all five great Noble clans and prominent families from the kingdom would be watching the upcoming event. '

The preparations were almost ready; in around two months, the most anticipated competition in Mejiram was about to be started.

First-year, second-year, and third-year students will battle against each other in one-on-one combat; the teams were already announced. The winners will receive a unique, rare item still not revealed, a Rank up adventurer classification, and an audience with King Azaemon.

In the Andrades palace, Kuroe played with Ruri, Kuroe's little sister, and brother; the twins were around six years old.

"Mia, Hiro, don't go too far away; Ruri bring them back here, please," Kuroe said.

"Yes, Master," Ruri replied.

"Having fun? Kuroe," Lord Grey said.

"Father," Kuroe was surprised; he did not sense any presence from behind.

"Let Ruri and the other maids in charge of your brothers come with me; there's someone I want to introduce you to." Lord Grey and Kuroe walked to the main hall. A tall young man with black hair and hazel, almost yellow eyes wearing the Ulum academy uniform was waiting from afar.

"Nice to see you again, young one⭐," Miel said.
