How to crash your crush's meet the family dinner

Adelia squirmed in her seat uncomfortably. Why wasn't Claude here yet! She clearly told him to come as fast as he could! What about her drama? This wasn't fair!

She stealthily checked her phone under the table. Claude had clearly seen her message earlier... Oh, there was a reply!

'We were out. Stuck in traffic.'

She clenched her teeth in anger. Her revenge wasn't complete! How come there's traffic when Claude wants to come over, but for Charlie, the roads are suddenly very clear? Was that the legendary bad luck of the second male lead due to which he's just unable to show up during important moments between the leads?

Her thoughts were interrupted when a ringing sound echoed around the house. The person outside seemed anxious as they continuously rang the bell without a pause.

Robert was surprised and hurriedly got up. Since he didn't like many people around the house, there weren't any servants there at night. Even the chef had left after serving the dinner.

"Coming!" He looked at the others and said, "You guys head over to the lounge, I'll see who it is."

"...Claude? And Louise is here too?"

"Well, hello there, my bestie's husband!" The woman cheered, delighted that Robert apparently failed to notice her presence, "You didn't see me!"

Robert glanced uncertainly at the red-faced woman and asked Claude, "Your mom? Is she drunk?"

Claude smiled embarrassedly, "Ah, yes, uncle. She came back again a few days ago since she was too worried about us staying here and just decided to return. We wanted to tell you, but mum wanted to keep it a secret for a future surprise. We were having a celebratory dinner today. She drank too much and suddenly wanted to come here. We tried to persuade her that it wasn't appropriate to drop by like this all of a sudden, but she wouldn't listen."

"What about your dad?"

"Dad ran into some trouble at work and is sorting that out."

Alex also came at the door to see who was there this late. "Whose it, darling-"

"What the heck! Get off me, you stupid woman!"

"Bestie, come on! Why so cold?" She giggled, "You're so cold, even ice can't compete! It would... melt in shame!"

She stumbled and nearly fell over, laughing like crazy at her own joke, "Oh my god, that's so funny!"

"Go stick to your own husband!" Alex yelled when he noticed her holding Robert's hand as she analyzed his palm like some palm expert and whispered her predictions to him. "Stop bothering mine!"

"You're so mean! I-" She suddenly got emotional, "We haven't seen each other in so long, yet you didn't take the initiative to invite me over! Every time, it's just me taking the lead! You've changed, Lexie!"

Alex frowned, "It's not like that! You're making me sound like a bad person! I didn't even know you were back, for god's sake."

She didn't seem to be listening and sniffled, "Do you think I'm annoying now? Don't you remember how much fun we had when we lit your grandma's wig on fire and she ran like crazy and bumped into that actress, making her spill the juice on her face and her makeup started to flow? It was freaking hilarious, haha!" Her mood changed in an instant as she burst into peals of laughter.

"...That was you guys?"

Alex tried to explain, "Look, darling, she's drunk! She's spouting nonsense! We- Why would we want to spill juice all over your cousin?"

"No, no, Lexie, don't lie!" She giggled as she waved her finger in front of his face. Turning to Robert, she pointed a finger at Alex and accused gleefully, "-That was his idea!"

Alex tried to shut the door. "Let- let's go. She has lost it-"

"Hey!" She stuck her foot in between. "Wait! You can't do that!"

"I sure can, and I will," He tried hard to maintain his smile as he found Robert's gaze getting more and more dangerous.

"No, wait, Alex," Robert made him remove his hands from the door and opened it wide, inviting her inside. "It's not good to drive away guests, right?" He turned to Adele, "Please come in. I'd love to hear more stories about the past from you."

Alex tried to argue, "-But! There...There's Charlie! Of course, we can't invite them!"

"I'm sure Charlie won't mind," Robert expressionlessly led Adele in. To be honest, he really wasn't that angry, but Alex still lied to him! He said he didn't have anything to do with it! Plus, he'd really like to hear more stories about their shenanigans in the past.

Adele laughed as she heard Alex sigh. She turned to him and stuck her tongue out, "Hehe, Lexie, I won!"

"...It's going to be a long night." Alex's gaze fell on Claude and Lousie by the door. "Hurry along, you two. Don't stand there, it's cold."

"Getting mum drunk was a good idea," Claude said, "Thanks, sis."

"Well, I get to be with Adelia, so it's cool."
