He reached out to feel Gary's breath, weak, but at least it was still there.
"I guess this is the only way," Jiang Shu sighed. He was hypnotizing Gary, setting a Heart Anchor.
Hypnotizing Gary to prevent him from passing through that so-called door.
The door was a fantasy of death and rest, and it wasn't hard to tell from his previous words that Gary had gradually lost the will to live when he was on the brink of death, a very ominous sign indeed.
Now, Jiang Shu tried to close this door in the subconscious, and lock it, to keep him from leaving.
The subconscious is a very simple and stubborn thing, and what he was doing then was making Gary's subconscious "hit a ghost wall," a different way to kindle the hope of life.
But in reality, Jiang Shu himself had no idea whether it would work. He was just a magician, who the hell knew how to hypnotize, and this was also his first attempt at hypnosis. He was merely imitating a hypnosis show he had seen in a past life, and whether it would work was entirely up to Gary's own fate.
"Jiang Shu... Gary!" At this point, Wolf arrived late. When he saw the blood spilled over the corridor, the pools of blood on the floor, the Disciple whose head was severed from his body, and Gary, who was critically injured and on the verge of death, he realized that so much had happened in the mere five minutes he had been apart from Jiang Shu.
"Have you called the rescue team?" Wolf crouched down, helped Gary up, and looking at Gary's pale and massive wound, he too felt somewhat helpless. He had learned first aid, but it was nowhere near enough to deal with Gary's horrific injuries.
"I had Tablet Spirit call them," Jiang Shu nodded, then looked towards Tablet Spirit.
Tablet Spirit: There is one minute and three seconds until the rescue team arrives.
"Let's go, up to the rooftop first," Wolf picked up Gary and hurried to the nearest elevator as he turned his head and told Jiang Shu, "Bring the part that got chopped off!"
Jiang Shu picked up the remaining body part from the ground and quickly followed Wolf, the twin trails of blood droplets extending toward the direction of the elevator.
"Come on, come on, come on..." Wolf muttered, pressing the elevator button for the top floor over and over.
"The rescue team will be here in thirty seconds," Jiang Shu glanced at the prompt from Tablet Spirit.
Wolf breathed a sigh of relief, "We'll make it."
"Ding—" the elevator reached the top floor, and the two men quickly ran towards the edge of the rooftop, where a sleek silver aircraft was already waiting.
In the past, ambulances for medical emergencies or search and rescue teams for special accidents were now replaced by the rescue teams here, with each squad equipped with a short-range aircraft for special emergency rescues.
Of course, it was expensive, but Gary's case counted as a work injury.
"Quick, over here!" A member of the rescue team, dressed in white protective gear and carrying a stretcher, jogged over.
"It's in your hands now," Wolf placed Gary on the stretcher, not saying much more. Having been a policeman for over a decade, he was no stranger to life and death.
"We'll do everything we can," the member of the rescue team nodded as he took over Gary, and his experienced judgment quickly gave him hope. "He's still breathing, don't worry, he won't die."
In Lonely City, not dying meant a chance to fully recover. Aside from brain damage, there were virtually no disabled people here.
The rescue team commander placed Gary onto the aircraft, and standing inside the aircraft's cabin, he saluted down to Wolf, "Good luck, Police Chief."
"Thank you," Wolf nodded.
Suddenly, Jiang Shu called out, "Wolf, look over there!"
Wolf jogged over to his side, looking in the direction Jiang Shu was pointing.
There, a burly man with a long knife in hand sped away in the opposite direction of the police station and the Terrorism Control Bureau.
"Chase!"
"Old Tang, the last mechanical disciple has made a run for it, I'm off to chase him, you guys handle the hotel battlefield." Wolf dialed Tang Hexun's phone, "I've shared my location with you, send some people to follow me."
"Alright," Tang Hexun responded, "keep an eye on that disciple and see where he ends up. Don't be reckless and be careful."
"Understood." Wolf hung up and stepped out of the hotel lobby, his sports car already waiting at the hotel entrance.
Following the direction the disciple had left, they found the long-knife-wielding disciple by the side of the road, his legs emitting a faint blue light as he moved rapidly along the main road.
It was now three in the morning, and even though this was a busy section, the number of vehicles on the road had started to decrease, but the disciple's bloody appearance, with a long knife in one hand and a human head in the other, still caused panic among the citizens. Pedestrians and drivers alike gave way, and once they realized the disciple had no intention of committing violence, they started recording with their wristwatches.
"Why isn't he taking the back alleys?" Wolf muttered, carrying the long knife and wreaking havoc on the main road was just too stupid, it was almost like carrying a lantern and shouting, "Come catch me."
"There's something off about his condition," Jiang Shu said, "His expression is frozen, and his eyes are blank, he's probably hypnotized."
Wolf turned to look at him, "Hypnotized? You did it?"
"No, it was someone else." Jiang Shu shook his head, "I didn't see his face clearly, only saw him snap his fingers, but it must have been 'Fox'. He took the last disciple away."
"Fox?" Wolf narrowed his eyes, "Why would he hypnotize a disciple? Aren't they on the same side as the disciples?"
"Not sure, but I think following that guy will lead us to the answers," Jiang Shu said.
The two kept their distance as they followed the disciple, and soon they arrived at the riverbank.
Gu River, the largest river within Lonely City, with most of its basin located within Lonely City, plays a significant role in the economic development of the different areas of Lonely City.
The disciple stopped in his tracks, looking around before heading towards a boat moored by the river.
Seeing this, the two also stopped their car at a distance, and Wolf sent a message to Tang Hexun, "I've arrived," then turned to Jiang Shu, "Do you want to come along?"
"Hmm." Jiang Shu nodded, then instructed Tablet Spirit, "Alpha, Beta, Gamma, you three go ahead first, make sure not to get spotted, Little Ding, broadcast what they record back to me."
"Alright." Wolf sighed in content, "With these four little guys, it's much safer. We just need to watch from nearby."
Alpha, Beta, and Gamma, the three Tablet Spirits, hopped and somersaulted away, their screens flashing with caption bubbles like "The king has ordered me to patrol the mountain, yi ya yo yi ya yi ya yo~".
"Not bad, they haven't thrown on the original soundtrack of Journey to the West." Jiang Shu reassured himself, it's all about getting used to it.
From a distance, Jiang Shu and Wolf saw the disciple jump onto one of the mid-sized transport ships and then walk straight in; behind him, the three little ones also flew onto the transport ship, and as they boarded, several bright lights appeared around the ship, as if something had burned out.
Ding: There were some private surveillance cameras, they have been taken out.
Jiang Shu nodded, these few Tablet Spirits might not take things seriously, but they were reliable.
"Bang bang—" Gunshots rang out from the transport ship, followed by shrill screams.
At that moment, Little Ding's screen also showed the scene inside the transport ship, with three separate low-angle views and lots of debris around the cameras, indicating they were well hidden.
A caption suddenly whisked across the video feed: "Commander's Perspective".
Jiang Shu: "..."
