An unusual street

The wind was blowing and howling across the land of Viatores. A huge thunderstorm is approaching, but that does not bother Wanna. She is so tired from everything, that even her bedroom window sash slamming can`t wake her up. In her sleep she suddenly realized…It was starting again! Wanna struggles to go back, but her mind is capturing her. The wall builds up between her and the real world and there is no way for her to go back. She has to turn around and face her nightmare, and when she does, she sees

"A street?" Said Wanna. "That looks more like a dream than a nightmare."

She is very confused, she was having nightmares for as long as she can remember.

"This is far from a nightmare…nothing scary here… Maybe I am a real Viator after all…But. This doesn`t look like the past…nor the future. Nothing is happening and I have to find a way out," said Wanna worriedly.

The street looked a lot like the one she was passing by every day on her way to school, but it was somehow different…

"This is so strange…I really don't like it. It is weird, some things are different from the reality, but they are so small and there are too many of them…I can`t really notice what`s wrong…Oh, I can`t think properly! I wish things could change back to normal here."

And suddenly…They did! A sign on the coffeshop stopped blinking and got its original letters, a few other signs that were upside down, turned back to their normal position, pots on poles turned from a bright red to brown color and the weird plants inside of them turned into simple flowers. The changes began to be more rapid and Wanna could not track them all, until they stopped and the street looked exactly like the one she was passing by every day.

"This is marvelous!" said Wanna in astonishment.

Suddenly, a green cat with two tails jumped in front of her and she gasped. The animal's fur slowly started to fade to a ginger red color and its other tale disappeared.

"Benji! Oh, you got me so scared I thought I was in a nightmare again! What`s with the fur and the extra tale?" shouted Wanna at the neighbour's cat, now in regular color, as if it could understand her.

Benji started carelessly rubbing against her legs and purring with content.

"If only someone could tell me what is going on here!" cried Wanna.

"You are in your lucid dream, my dear. Don`t be scared, anything you wish for is going to become reality here and I am going to be your guide. I don`t usually agree with such a task, but us cats are amazing creatures. We can sense strength in others and yours is beyond any limits. It is useful for me to have you at my side and, since you are bringing me cat food every day, I assume you are a decent human too." answered Benji.

Wanna stares at the cat in complete shock while pointlessly opening and closing her mouth. She couldn`t even scream nor say a word.

"Oh, come on", said Benji while rolling his eyes at her "I just gave you a compliment. I do that very rarely, and now I am beginning to think I shouldn`t have. You look as dumb as a fish right now."

"Why are you being rude?" answered Wanna. "This is the first time I have had a dream. I am used to realistic nightmares, but a talking cat in a world that looks exactly like mine? I am completely shocked, so give me a break!"

"Ahh, fine, fine… I suppose I am expecting too much of you. You are smart, but not as smart as a cat." Purred Benji with his eyes half shut and a little smirk.

Suddenly, a loud noise followed by short earthquakes interrupted them. Behind the rooftops, Wanna and Benji could see a giant elephant. The enormous animal hit one house with its trunk and teared it down. Wanna grabbed Benji in quick motion and rolled under a parked truck to avoid part of a chimney that was flying towards them.

"Here is your charriot, princess!" yelled Benji.

"Whaat?! Are you joking? Look at the size of this creature! It is at least three times bigger than a normal elephant. Heck, I couldn`t even ride a normal sized one! Why is he here? I surely didn`t ask for a creature that could kill us!" answered Wanna, yelling back.

An elephant smashed a building next to them and a part of it fell on a truck, so they quickly got out of there and hid behind a car that was parked a bit further away.

"Dammit, no time to explain now, you will figure everything out, I promise! Quickly, just make a wish. Make him the size of a horse and please wish for him to be calm. You have to say it out loud!" said the cat nervously.

"Alright. I want this elephant to be smaller, so I can ride him and I want him to be obedient!" said Wanna.

The giant animal immediately started shrinking until it became horse-sized. It was calmly standing still in a street it demolished a minute ago.

"That was close! Thank you for saving my life. I will not lose fate in you again…Now quickly. Ride him and wish as hard as you can for a portal back to your world. This is a parallel universe, different from yours. It is not the past nor the future. Either way, I cannot go with you from here. I will meet you again as your guide in some other form," said Benji quickly.

"But, I have so many questions! Please answer…" --„No time, human! Hurry up or you will bring something weird here again, your time is limited or else, you will corrupt the whole universe! Oh God. I forgot! Change the street to the way it was before you came. The elephant goes with you. He`s not from around here. Quickly dammit!" said Benji.

"Alright, alright. I`m on it! I want everything" --„Not everything! You have to be more specific or else it won`t work!" said Benji.

"Oh! Ok. I want this street and all the creatures on this street to change back to the way they were before I came!" ordered Wanna.

"Perfect! You are a quick learner… For a human. Now go!" answered Benji.

The street started to change back to the way it was and Benji had already started growing another tail when Wanna climbed on the elephant.

"Go forward! I want you to go through a portal at the end of the street. You go back to your world in your original size and I go back to mine!" Ordered Wanna courageously.

The portal with white light glowing out of it appeared on a brick wall at the end of the steep part of the street and the elephant started walking fast towards it while growing rapidly.

"She learns quickly even for a cat…" muttered Benji with admiration, making sure Wanna couldn`t hear him.

"This elephant kind of reminds me of my only stuffed toy I had when I was a kid," thought Wanna.

But… She shouldn`t have! The elephant turned into an old stuffed toy with floppy ears and Wanna started crumbling to the ground along with it.

"No, no! Change back to yourself, the way I said it!" she screamed, and luckily it did, before she hit the ground.

"Don`t imagine anything after saying a wish out loud, it will affect it!" yelled Benji from afar.

"Oh yeah? Well, thanks for the update, but now I figured it out the hard way! See ya,cat!" yelled Wanna back.

"See ya, Wanna. Please take care of yourself," whispered Benji.

Finally, Wanna and the elephant went through the portal and it shined even brighter while they were passing and then disappeared in glitter, leaving Benji to stare alone at the brick wall.
