"I'm sorry..." The woman's face paled, betraying her panic.
She shook her head and said, "I'm sorry, Michael, I'm really sorry!"
Her three consecutive apologies finally snapped the man back to reality. Michael Greenwood's face showed embarrassment as he lowered his eyelids in a gesture of regret.
"The one who should be sorry is me. I forced your hand..." he said, standing up with a dark look on his face. Looking up at her again, he continued, "I will speak to my father clearly, don't worry, the wedding won't happen."
"Michael..."
"No need to say more, I understand." Michael Greenwood cut her off with a bitter smile, "I'm just not that fortunate..."
He turned and walked towards the door with heavy steps, his hands clenched into tight fists, almost crushing his own bones.
Michael Greenwood cursed himself inwardly. Before they registered their marriage, it had been clear that it would end once Walter Schmidt got engaged or married.
Yet he hadn't expected it to happen so soon!
