"It doesn't hurt anymore." She took his arm, no longer looking at the room across the hall, and turned to walk back.

Walter hugged her, and after the couple briefly packed up their things, they prepared to leave. Before leaving, Emma knocked on the door across the hall again, but still no one answered, so she shrugged her shoulders and then they went downstairs.

At the front desk to check out, the owner told them that the lady in the black leather jacket had already settled the bill in full.

Emma was surprised, but she didn't say anything. After all, the woman had an aloof appearance and seemed to reject others from a thousand miles away. It was clear from the way she handled the bill that she didn't want to owe anyone any favors and was keen to keep the relationship strictly transactional, owing nothing to each other.

She exchanged a smile with Walter, then they left the hotel.
