Ignatius Peverell

Augustus Blake, who usually refers to himself as Oggy to some people stumbled as he steps out of the fireplace. It has been a long day since he talked with the Dursley family. He still could not believe the whole information he managed to get. The number of reports he is going to submit will be long, especially knowing that the little boy is a parselmouth.

Their aunt was a little worried when Augustus informed her that Harry shouldn't talk around with snakes so casually, especially in public. Being able to speak snakes comes with a heavy stigma due to the last wizarding war in Europe. Although the United States may not be concerned about this, since the family is British and the fact that Harry and Iris are related to the Potters, Harry might suffer some backlash from other people just because he can talk to a snake.

Augustus also discovered the reason why it was hard for him to find the source of accidental magic. There was a ward around them. That ward was powerful that even Augustus will have trouble trying to remove it. Luckily it seems to be in a timer, which means it will be released when the children are of age enough to go to a magic school. He decided not to tell Petunia Dursley about it as it can be scary for no-maj to learn if they have been put under a spell. No-maj often can question whether their mind, behavior, or actions were influenced by magic or not and this can drive them crazy. But whoever made this ward made it seem like it was trying to get people – especially magic people – away from the Dursleys.

His suit is now covered in soot. He never really liked doing the floo since it's a bit messy to travel but it was safer transportation than apparating and less risky than flying (flying is considered risky under the statute of secrecy if they were noticed by the no-majs). It was time to let go of his professional look anyway.

He looked around the furnished room. On the outside, it looked like any high-class condo in New York but it is a manor.

"COUSIN!" He bellowed but screamed when a large ball of fire was launched at him.

"WHAT?" An annoyed voice yelled.

"Nice to see you too," Oggy mumbled as he stood up and brush off the dirt from his clothes.

His cousin, Ignatius walked the stairs while glaring at him. He looked like he just woken up. His dark hair, pale skin, and silver eyes were all visible but what Oggy could not believe is that his cousin looked healthy, healthier than he has ever been.

"So, the ritual was a success?"

"It was," Ignatius answered.

Ignatius Peverell has been living his whole life in the manor. He is in his late thirties, older than his younger cousin who is currently working for MACUSA. He stayed mostly in the manor and do his research and experiments but because it is usually very painful to even walk around properly, going out alone is difficult.

The Peverells are one of the oldest magical families in the world whose origins are believed to be back in Britain whose leylines are so close to the surface that they have the advantage to feel and get more magic around them. But their line is extinct or so many thought. They are close to extinction. And the reason for this is the bloodline curse. The curse that he and his whole family has inherited can all be traced back to the so-called legend about the three brothers of Peverell. Many people thought this is a legend but for the Peverells, this is considered true and Ignatius Peverell is said to be part of the line of the eldest brother, Antioch (A/N: The second born married with the Slytherin line, and the third born is through the Potter line).

Antioch was murdered because of the elder wand. However, the person who murdered him was not just some random person who heard about his wand in a bar where Antioch has supposedly bragged about the wand but no other than his own best friend.

Antioch's son found out about it and fought the man who murdered his father and also killed him for revenge and that was the start of the endless blood bath that runs down for generations with the Peverells fighting and losing and gaining the wand in an endless cycle. That was until their feud has become intense, and their rival's family found a loophole. They used the wand to curse the existing Peverell at the time using a new curse they have developed but that curse winds so long-lasting that each Peverell in every generation inherited it.

That curse is known as a bloodline curse because it is passed down from generation to generation and because of that it has severely damaged the Peverell line. The curse isn't just a specific type. It varies from Peverell to Peverell and the one thing that is consistent with the said curse is that Peverells never lived long. Young deaths are very common and for Ignatius, the curse not only severely damaged his magical lines but also made him suffer in pain for years as the curse aimed to consume him internally and physically.

The Peverell over the generations have made many efforts to remove the curse but many are unsuccessful. The most common so far was to get rid of their Peverell name by either magically changing it or taking the name of their spouse to the point that the next generation forget they were even Peverells. There is magic in the name and because of that, the next Peverells lost a lot of their ancestral magic and in turn many of their magical connection to their inheritance as well. To get it back, they have to reinstate their name but that always results in a backlash of the curse.

Augustus Blake is his cousin. Augustus' mother is Ignatius' father's sister. She died in an untimely accident. No one is sure how or what happened but Augustus was already aware that the curse of their family was able to take his mother away.

Augustus was able to escape the curse as he carried his father's surname over the Peverells but his cousin was not so lucky. After generations, Ignatius's and Augustus' great-grandfathers reinstate the magic of the Peverells back into their family line. It brought back their family magic and their inherited wealth but they inherited the disease that consumes their magic. That disease was too painful and it always starts after they developed their magical core which is adulthood and it will attack at random either earlier or later but it will happen.

Augustus has watched his cousin suffer because of it, watched his mother die because of it, and lost his uncles, aunts, cousins, and grandparents at a very early age. Even though Augustus did not inherit the bloodline curse, he was still afraid to have children if they might get it.

Their grandfather was able to find a ritual to cut the curse from the family once and for all but the problem is that it will take more than just one generation.

The last full moon was said to be the final cycle of the ritual but they didn't have a guarantee it will work at all. But it seems it has and Augustus is beyond relief.

"Finally!" He exclaimed and run off to hug his cousin who begrudgingly accepted without any fanfare. Ignatius hates hugs but he accepted them anyway.

"I thought you were on the other side of the country?"

"I was. Just got back. Found some promising magical children. They came from Britain." Augustus answered.

"Oh?" Ignatius looked at his cousin curiously. The wizards and witches from Great Britain were very prideful and rarely considered moving to other countries. It is much more common for others to move to Great Britain. Magic has the most historical significance there, especially from Hogwarts and the fact that they have much closer access to the magical leylines to the envy of most of the world.

"Their last names are Potters."

"What? Isn't that the boy who lived's family? I would have heard some news about it. The community would be over the moon if they found out they are here."

"No." Augustus sat on one of the high chairs near the fireplace. The portrait of their grandfather looking curiously at them.

Augustus then explained all that happened in his assignment.

"The boy is a parselmouth Iggy. A parselmouth! How rare that is in the West!" Augustus exclaimed. "And he has to live in a culture without any knowledge of magic and even if we do return them back to their actual parents, I don't think he will live well knowing the negative stigma on parselmouth in a family who is known to be against anything related to it."

"I see. Why are you explaining this to me?" Iggy asked as he pick up tea from the table in front of his cousin.

"I need a magical guardian for the kids."

Iggy glared at his cousin. "And you think I would be the one person who should be their guardian? Do I look like I like children?"

"No. But I also know that you won't hurt them in any way and will help them with this. Besides, wouldn't they be the perfect reason for our return to Great Britain?"

"Return?"

"Oh please, stop acting ignorant, Ignatius!" The portrait of their grandfather, Ransford Peverell. "Our legacy was taken from us because of this curse. Our lives, our families, and our wealth. Our origins are from Great Britain and we deserve to have our position back. Besides, I have heard how Great Britain has been declining in progress and growth in magic. You can use this opportunity to push for a better chance, and put our name back in our home!"

"I am very aware of your ambition, grandfather," Ignatius said coldly.

"It's not my ambition. It is our family's ambition. Hmmph." The portrait growled and then left. "Stupid grandchildren." He muttered as he left the room.

"The Potters are somewhat related to us in a way anyway," Augustus mentioned.

"I am also aware that they are very close to the one, Albus Dumbledore as well," Ignatius said

"Yes, they are, but these two kids don't know Dumbledore now, are they?" Augustus grinned.

Ignatius just frowned.

The two men never really met Albus Dumbledore. They are also aware of how powerful the man is. Yet they have a negative opinion of the man. Not only because he is a global instigator of the ban of a lot of dark magic – some of which were not really considered dangerous but since it was labeled dark, many wizards and witches have become less innovative and a lot of communities in some areas such as the African community who does not see dark magic as bad resulted in a lot of conflict. Something Ignatius, who is a magical researcher does not like as this also means less access to important sources as well.

Although they never blamed the current Albus Dumbledore for their bad perception of him the biggest reason why they have a negative perception of Dumbledore is because of their bloodline curse. The man who started the whole history of feuds and the one who cursed their family was Dumbledore.
