Chapter 36: An Old Friend

Rakesh sat in the passenger’s seat of a large white van that led a convoy of others. Soren was in the driver’s seat and Molly sat in the seat behind him. Rakesh glanced at her every now and then, watching the witch fiddle with a necklace she wore and hum quietly to herself.

“When Josie said she was calling people in, I didn’t know she meant so many.” Rakesh mused thoughtfully.

“Oh, honey, this is just a drop in the ocean.” Molly chuckled. “Honestly, we didn’t need everyone we brought with us. Not tonight anyway. This is more a matter of protocol than anything.”

“What do you mean we don’t need them tonight?” Rakesh looked incredulous. “How else are we supposed to save Josie?”

“That’s just it, my friend.” Soren chimed in. “Josie doesn’t need us to save her. We’re just rallying the troops for the aftermath.”

“Th-the aftermath?” Rakesh’s eyes threatened to pop out of his head.
