Be the heir [ Bonus chapter ]

" What !?" Lucas was shocked hearing that.

" I told you, didn't I. I will choose the best possible future for you." Silvia said proudly. But Lucas' reaction didn't change, after all being a prince and then an emperor of such a powerful dynasty is something which he never expected. Even though being the ruler is good and all there are many cons which Lucas had found out himself.

Leon noticed the panic in Lucas but he misunderstood it and explained everything clearly.

" What she means is she wants you to take what truly belongs. Lady Athanasia had given the right to rule over the empire to us, the descendants of the Algar bloodline. I can tell you the history that except for the first emperor none of the emperors were able to look after the empire well. They always either tried to protect themselves because they were too weak or they just took pride in what they have, like everything belongs to them." He continued before asking :-

" Uh, your name ...?"

" Lucas." Lucas replied.

" Lucas, do you think that not a single problem ever raised which can threaten the imperial family ?" Leon asked with a serious tone.

" That's impossible." Lucas replied. After all, even though the whole continent is united under a simple name there are various factions even in this empire. It is actually a common theory based on human nature. When you don't have a single enemy you become suspicious of your allies as well.

" Yes you are right and the history of this empire says that whatever threatened the safety of the emperor or the imperial family, it was lady Athanasia who protected them." Leon continued.

" What do you think will happen when people come to know that Lady Athanasia left our empire ?" Leon asked with a meaningful look.

" They won't have anything to fear and will openly target the imperial family." Lucas answered with a thoughtful look.

" Correct, that's why at least according to my plan, we want a new guardian of our continent. Who do you think is the best option ?" Leon asked again.

" Someone who carries the same blood as that of the White Dragon, someone who is way more stronger than even beasts and monsters. Someone who can keep his head high even among the strongest world powers." Lucas said and understood the intentions Leon had.

" The thing is Lucas, some of us always wanted Lady Athanasia herself to rule over this country but she always refused to do so." Leon said with a sigh.

Lucas turned his head around to look at the dragon which was his mother. She was dozing off as well as listening to the conversation. She knew she was never good at explaining things.

Feeling Lucas's questioning gaze she simply opened her jewelled eyes and answered :-

" I had better things to do than rule over and look after a bunch of nosy brats."

Lucas looked at his mother with a dry look for the answer she gave. Athanasia simply turned her neck to avoid her son's gaze.

" But I think if raised properly you will be the perfect emperor." Leon said saving Athanasia from Lucas's dry look.

" How so ?" Lucas asked.

" First of all, you carry the dragon blood and just any dragon blood you carry the blood of a true and pure dragon. Even if in the future you become a dragonoid you will live for at least three thousand years. You will be like an absolute power house who can't even be defeated by the strongest beings in the empire."

" Second, with your blood will give you unlimited potential. This will allow you to tap into the true powers of dragon bloodline as well as in magic. You will also be able to use techniques given by Lady Athanasia better than anyone."

" Third and last, you are not like any kid I have ever seen before. If you ask me I am still doubting whether you really are a five year old or not. From the information and your thinking you seemed to have studied a lot as well."

" Now tell me with these qualities why won't I think that you will be the strongest emperor ever." Lucas was not able to deny the fact.

' I will protect what belongs to my mother and me no matter what but being a prince and an emperor is something...'

" Don't think too much about it, my son." Athanasia said after seeing the pondering and serious look on her face.

" Don't think of this like a responsibility or anything like that. This is something I created and everything that belongs to me belongs to you as well. Do you know the biggest reason why I agreed to the plan of making you the heir of this empire ?" She asked.

" No, " Lucas replied.

" Because I want to give you freedom and freedom always comes with the price of power. Even though I don't know much about this continent, I want you to think of this place as a home. A home where you are free, where you don't have to hide anything and most specifically no matter how messy your life becomes you will have a place to return to." Silvia continued.

" I would be lying if I said that is the only reason because even though these are lesser beings, they are still beings who live under me. I always carried this blind fold of narrow mindedness but that was removed by a really weak and pathetic lesser being."

" Just like you he didn't want power, he didn't want status, he didn't want to be victorious. All he wanted was a place to stay, your current self reminds me of him, Lucas. Even though you might not want power and want to live a peaceful life, some people will still fear your power and will attack you. You will either fight or run and I ask, if you have to face problems anyway why not face it wholeheartedly without any regrets." Silvia said in nostalgia because these are not her words, they belonged to the first emperor as well as her father.

At that time she was simply interested in this lesser being who was able to say the same things as her father who was called as the king of all the dragons, the most knowledgeable being. Then she understood that experience requires years but emotions can be felt by a new born baby as well. You just need to give it a try no matter what the outcome is, at the very least you won't regret it.
