After a few hours trying to process what happened and the consequences of its meaning I finally accepted it before denying it. For me not only this wasn't possible, but it was also a terrible mistake.
Being reincarnated in a world with Spider-Man? I could accept it. Even being his best friend, girlfriend, boyfriend, aunt, uncle or his boss I could accept it. Even being Peter Parker himself albeit a little bit reluctant after a long time to process I could still accept it. Because I'm pretty sure that even if I didn't want to I'll still become Spider-Man somehow.
But who can explains to me in which universe; me, Miles Morales, the lazy guy who didn't bother learning the name of his classmates and had a police officer who hate superhero as his father, became a Spider-Man?! For me, it didn't make any sense.
I was pretty sure I reincarnated without meeting god or whatever. Nor did I ever wished for any powers while being here. Nor did I have some cheat or system or whatever. So why did I became Spider-Man?
"Wait, things aren't certain yet. Maybe this is a temporary thing like in Smallville when Lana had powers for a day. Or maybe it's just power similar to Spider-Man but it's actually not that."
I said aloud as I was walking around in circles in my room. But the situation made me more and more stressed until I suddenly feel like something hot was growing inside my chest and wanted to break free from my body.
'Aaargh!! What going on?!'
And because of that I started to panic like I never had before. I felt like I had some kind of bomb growing in power and wanting to explode inside my body. The energy was clearly telling me that it wanted to be released, and I was growing more and more uncomfortable with it as the second passed.
But because I didn't know what will happen if I released what was inside me, I tried to unconsciously keep it inside my chest. But eventually, I myself couldn't containing it anymore. And so I instinctively stretch my wand and point it to the open window before releasing that hot energy.
ZZZZTZ
A lightning bolt came out of my hand and traveled to the sky so fast, I almost didn't see it. But it did leave behind a trail of electricity in form of small circles. Then without waiting for me to understand a thing, the lighting bolt exploded in the sky like a blue and yellow firework of at least fifteen diameters.
The explosion, being so loud and big made every people in Brooklyn noticed, while all I could do was staring blankly at the place where stood the lightning bolt.
"OH.MY.GOD! WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPEN?!"
Was the only thing I could say after staring at the sky for at least a good five minutes, before I immediately decided on something else.
"I need to know what kind of spider is it!"
Having decided on my next course of action, I immediately took my vest and new clothes before exiting my room in a hurry.
#####
Arriving at the old Gothic room with the flashlight of my phone, I glance at the walls to see the proof that the night I had yesterday wasn't a dream.
'Well my Graff is still there. So it was really the spider huh? Well, let's look for it and destroy it, less a real vilain this time get powers through it.'
That was the decision I took as I run to this place once again.
While I didn't watch Ultimate Spider-Man or the comics, I at least knew an iron rule of the world of hero. Most of the villains were created by association with the hero.
It may not be his fault, but there will always be a relation between them in their creation. Be it for the vilain or the hero.
So I thought, I didn't want to become a hero or a vilain but in this kind of universe, when you had power you will always have an interaction with them if your powers were related. And if I let go that spider I'm pretty sure that a new person will get new powers too, and then by some kind of fate I will automatically be brought to the shenanigans brought by it.
So I decided. Eliminate what's left of that spider and then hide my powers as well as I can and live a normal life in my not so normal world for the rest of my life.
And so, I started to search for that spider to preserve my future. And I have to say it wasn't hard because it was already dead and I don't think anyone is hanging around there so nothing changed since I came yesterday.
Crouching over the body of my new problems I started to touch it with my hand to see if it was still alive while complaining.
"How could a normal looking spider cause so much trouble to me? Like did you ever consider the consequences before doing it?"
Not getting any reaction of the body (not that I was waiting for one), I continued my complaining.
"And couldn't you have a better and cooler way to do it? Being bitten hurt as hell and its old school. Worst is if I didn't know it was because of you that I had those powers I would have thought it was because of something I eat. You're too normal looking man, in a like 'boring how normal you are' kind of way."
Just after saying this, many things happened almost at the same time: the spider started to FREAKING GLITCH! Like it was in some kind of video games and it bugging, glitching in a multitude of colors. Then because of how it happen so suddenly I unconsciously slapped the glitching spider again, but this time my chest started to burn again. Immediately after my hand released lightning on the spider in the air, burning it while it was flying.
'Why can't I JUST SHUT UP?'
As I was watching the spider burn into nothing, I started to thought about how glad I was that this day was already over and nothing else more crazy could happen.
And that was another mistake.
BRRRRM
suddenly I heard a big noise like the kind that earthquakes do followed by a strange roaring sound coming from hidden corridor that I didn't notice before. By curiosity I went through that path even if I knew that I shouldn't.
"One of those days Miles, you're gonna get yourself killed."
I said out loud as I found myself in front of a big kind of curtain covering another entrance. And beyond, a sort of big hangar was presenting itself to me. Various kind of machinery and containers laying around, I could even see some barrels from Alchemax with some chemicals inside.
'I don't know what is this place, but I'm pretty sure I shouldn't be here.'
I thought as looked around. I was already starting to think that it was enough for exploration and should get going, when all my sense suddenly became sharper and I started to hear many intelligible voices shouting in my head. Giving me reasons to believe that it would explode.
*'WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO ME?'*
*'MILES LOOK OUT!'*
*'I WANT TO SEE PETER PARKER!'*
*'NOW YOU KNOW YOU'RE NOT ALONE.'*
*'WE'RE THE SAME!'*
*'I DON'T WANT TO BE SUPER-HERO!'*
*'DON'T DO THIS PHIN!'*
*'LOOK OUT!'*
Then without any warning everything became quiet. Before suddenly like this morning an imaginary ring started to warn me over a new danger...
BEHIND ME
CRAAK
The windows behind me explode without a sign because of a big machine being thrown on it. Unfortunately this time I didn't get luxury of having the bullet time perception, but luckily I still managed crouch with my hands over my head in time to avoid that big machine and some debris of glass that almost killed me on the spot.
Not understanding what's going on but still very willing to survive and live longer, I immediately stood up and run to a big a pillar near my position to hide.
Not even a second passed than I heard a voice through the now broken window speaking to another person before seeing a guy in blue and red being thrown from it to a container.
"Norman listen to me."
Identifying that the guy in red and blue was the one who spoke, I take a closer look at him and immediately recognize him, but I still couldn't believe it.
'SPIDER-MAN?!?'
I mean you couldn't really blame me, up until now I never ever met him even if we lived in the same city.
"I cannot let you open a portal to another dimension! Brooklyn isn't zoned for that!"
Continued Peter as he tried to persuade 'Norman' on the other side of the broken window.
'Wait what did he say? A portal to another dimension? If it's true then Brooklyn is totally up for for this Spider-Man!'
As I started to think about life, Spider-Man's interlocutor finally walk through the window as he replied to him.
"It's not up to me, or you!"
'What the hell, is that the Green Goblin? Wow he's way bigger than I thought he would be in reality!'
Five meter tall, green with a muscular winged demon body a giant saddlebag and a green and purple lutin hat. Norman Osborne the Green Goblin was the definition of a true monster. I could easily guess that if the Oogie Boogie was him, no children would ever dare to do a single stupid thing in their childhood.
Multi-tasking, Green Goblin took a giant pipe on the ground and tried to bash it on Spider-Man's skull as he avoid it while he continue his discussion.
"So you should go this time and not interfere with our stuff or you will die."
"Are checking up on my health? That's sweet! Unfortunately I will have to refuse. I don't want to see Brooklyn being sucked into a black hole. State Island maybe, just not Brooklyn."
His answer caused chill to run through my spine.
'What DID HE SAID? The portral will cause a black hole IN Brooklyn? No man! No, no, no, no, no, Brooklyn ain't zoned for that man! Kick his ass Spider-Man!... Wait a minute why am I still here? I don't wanna be caught in their fight. Let's just return to Brooklyn Academy.'
But as I decided to do that, the Green Goblin started to change his strategy against Spider-Man. Throwing away the pipe, he started to throw bomb at him.
But what none of them noticed is that the pipe was actually going directly to my position. Seeing this, I immediately started to run to another hiding place. While I did avoid a certain death (I saw the pillar breaking due to the collision), after just running a few meter, a metal beam was approaching me with a great speed making me want to cry. Fortunately I didn't do that, but miraculously, I jumped before it hit me.
With a jump over more than five meters, while my face did avoid the metal beam, because I jumped too late, my leg still got hit by it. By pure reflex, I tried clang on the beam. But because I was hit, because of the inertia, I almost rolled over it and land my head first on that ground filled with dubious chemicals and mutant spiders. Thanking my lucky star, I managed to catch a dented part of the beam and not falling.
But I couldn't be happy for that, The Green Goblin suddenly took the beam like a baseball bat with the head being me, pointing to an incoming Spider-Man.
"No, no, no, no, no!"
I murmured furiously while hoping for a miracle and it came like a guardian angel. My bullet time came back to save my day.
Taking my time to really see my surrounding, I spot a crane clamp hanging three meters in front of me. Not thinking more about it I started to slowly get in position after calculating a little before jumping in a slow motion over it.
And I honestly had to say that I was glad I was in a bullet time right now, because when I was in the air, I instantly knew that my arm aimed wrongly, and because of bullet time I was able to adjust it to reach it correctly.
And like the last time, the moment I caught the chain, time started to resume itself.
This time fortunately, I was prepared. But very quickly however I realized that it was for nothing because I couldn't control the direction of that metalic chain.
Like a Tarzan or Spider-Man, I end up at the end of the first swing. And seeing that there were nothing dangerous underneath, I decided to jump.
That turned out to be a good decision, because as I landed 'gracefully' (no, really I swear it was a classy landing) I saw the Green Goblin taking the clamp as a whip and tried again hit Spider-Man with it.
'Don't care about them Miles, just run away!'
Shaking my head to refocus on my situation, I started to search for an exit to escape those dangerous individuals. I got lucky again and saw a door with bright light inside making impossible to see what was on the other side.
'Well as long as I can escape.'
And once again I should have just shut up. After running to the light (it kinda sounds like I was dying no?) I had to stop abruptly so that I could live longer. Because on the edge of the door stood and enormous white cylindrical room that seems still under construction. At each end of the room stood an identical machines. Both of those machines looked a bit like the end of a futuristic looking orbital cannon, with each end aiming at each other. And in the middle the room at the other side stood a sort of glass observatory for scientist with people inside working on something on their computer.
And now for the bad news, my 'door' was almost at the ceiling of that room. And it was a certainty that I would die if I fall to such height.
And so here's go my escape route, but at least I was still alive.
BOOM
Behind me, suddenly came the Green Goblin who didn't look like he was having a good time, because he came to my side, by almost crashing into me.
Fortunately I dodge in time. Unfortunately, because I wasn't prepared for that sudden party crasher, I fall from the edge and started skydiving without a parachute. Because of how quick it happened, I shout from surprise and fright.
"HAAAAAAAAH!!! HELP MEEEEEE!!!"
As if god took pity on me the 'Friendly Neighborhood' finally took notice of me. Swinging with his web shooter, he quickly got to me and catch me on the fly like one of those mama cat do with their kids, and saved me.
He took us to the part of the room still under construction because of the many hidden spots, and landed there with me on a hidden scaffold.
Catching my. Breath, I took a good look at practically my idol on this universe while trying to say something cool to start the conversation, but he beat me into it.
"Did you know your shoes are untied?"
And I could only replied stupidly.
"Y-yeah. That's a choice."
But internally I was more like.
'Oh. My. God! That's Spider-Man! The real Spider-Man! The Legend himself! Wait, I shouldn't start to get fanboy now, I'm still in danger. But... That's Spider-Man!'
"This is a onesie, so don't worry about it."
Right after that, both of us had our spider senses warning us. But this time it was not about a danger, but about someone like us. Ourselves.
Discovering the big news of the day, Spider-Man started to talk me excitedly.
"You, you're like me! I thought I was the only one!"
'I thought that too buddy, and I would have preferred if it stay that way.'
Cursing my fate, I still reply to him with my true thoughts.
"I don't wanna be! I want a normal life."
But my idol tried to crush my hopes.
"I don't really think you can have that now kiddo. Sometimes it's not up to us to decide."
"But I don't want to. I got my powers today, and it was hell, from when I woke up 'till now!"
I don't why, but I when I said that to Spidey, it was almost like I was begging him to take away those powers from me. Even though I knew he couldn't.
As if reading my thoughts, he put a hand on my shoulders and told me with sympathy.
"I can imagine what you went through. But don't worry you'll be fine. If you stick around, I can help you and show you how to handle it."
At that time, his voice sounded to me like angel falling earth to give the sacred answer.
"Yeah, thanks."
Right after that, hearing a loud noise, both of turn our head to see the machines getting turned on. Facing me again, Spider-Man tried to reassure me when he saw the puzzlement and worry on my face.
"Don't worry about it, it's just a dimensional travel machine. I just need to destroy it real quick before the space-time continuum collapse. It will be easy."
'Just because you are Spider-Man and have the protagonist aura, doesn't mean it's gonna be easy! While you will always save the days, it doesn't mean everyone will be fine while waiting! Respect us, normal civilians, a little.'
I complain in my head as he prepare to go, before he turn his head for the last before going and said.
"See you in a bit."
He then shoot a web in the direction of the machine and go. Then he... yep he started to show off with a combination swinging and parkour as he travel all the way to the ceiling where apparently stood the famous green button of those vilain's machines. But I had to say, he really knew how to show off.
"That was cool!" I acknowledged with respect.
Spidey then took out a USB stick to insert it on the control panel, but a new individual in a purple suit, pounce on him and prevented him from accomplishing his hero's duty : it was the Prowler, a vilain unique to this Spider-Man universe, (well, I dubbed him like that because I never saw him in the other Spider-Man).
"Prowler, man! You really came at a bad time, I was kinda in the middle of something if you know what I mean?"
Smiling at his joke, I started to get more comfortable and watch the show. And man, what a fight. Even though Spider-Man was taken by surprise to Prowler's sneak attack, the former was able to defend himself quite well while fighting in the air, and even had time to say another joke.
"Damn, are you mad at me? I should be the one who's mad at you, I was almost done with the deed."
But eventually because the Prowler could fly and Spider-Man not, he took a big hit and was sent flying to machine under the the turning cylindrical turbines.
"I'm so tired" murmured Spider-Man while lying on the machine, before getting up starting his round two with the Prowler.
But this time an old friend of his joined the fight: the Green Goblin. A very fast and unequal fight ensued. And Spider-Man quickly found himself under the big clawed foot of Osborn.
Seeing that, a new stupid idea came to me.
"I should go up there and help him!"
I said with great conviction as I stood before the roar of the Green Goblin wake me up and prevent me from doing another stupid thing.
"Who am I kidding? I should absolutely not go there at all. This ain't a Bugs Bunny cartoon. I go there, I die!"
After coming to my sense I watched nervously the predicament in which Spider-Man found himself in. The huge tension in the air could be felt.
I was starting to think of a way to save Spider-Man without going into the fight to die stupidly, when out of the blue in that oppressing atmosphere we heard someone Humming the Spider-Man song.
"Do bee do, do bee do. Watch out. Here comes the Spider-Man!"
Turning my head to the scientific observatory, we saw the figure of Wilson Fisk A.K.A Kingpin emerging from the shadow looking down at Spider-Man with cold smile on his face.
"You like my new toy?"
He asked with amusement before continuing in his mocking.
"Cost me a fortune, but, hey, can't take it home with you okay?"
Glaring dangerously at Fisk, Spider-Man could only spit out his name bitterly at him.
"Kingpin."
To which the later replied to his greetings jokingly.
"Spider-Man. Seeing you so comfortably installed, I'll make a terrible host if I don't make you watch the test right?"
Turning his head to one of the scientists he ordered them to light it on before facing Spider-Man again.
"Don't worry, you're gonna like it."
Seeing the machine being turning on, both Spider-Man and I started to freaking out.
"NO! DON'T DO THIS! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING! YOU'RE GONNA KILL US ALL!"
Roared Spider-Man in vain. Then from the ceiling, a new device strangely shaped like an old camera came down until it was positioned in the middle of the 'cannons' machines. Before both started to shoot a powerful (and very, verrry colorful) energy only to collide with the camera device.
The impact was so strong, part of the room were already starting to collapse, and it didn't look like it was going to stop.
But while this was happening, I suddenly feel strange as I stared at that energy. I felt like a part of it was slipping into me, starting to awaking something in me. And as time passed I started to hear people murmuring coming from that energy beam getting louder and louder.
But I didn't have the time to continue and ponder on it, because the scaffolding on which I was standing, collapsed without any warning. Fortunately I was able to grab a metal bar of one of the other scaffold still standing.
From here I saw Spider-Man talking with the Green Goblin.
"Norm, I think you have to get ready for a head trauma!"
The later as if sensing something wrong raised his head just in time to see a heavy piece metal plate that fell from the ceiling hitting him. Almost knocking him down.
The hit made him slide out of cannon, freeing Spider-Man. Acting as if it was an everyday occurrence, spidey stand up and head out for the control panel again with a quip of his own.
"I tried to warn you, pal."
While all I could think about is this.
'Was that the legendary halo of the protagonist? By the way where did the Prowler go?'
As if repeating a scene, Spider-Man still didn't get to have the chance to met the green button, but this time it was because of an angry Green Goblin.
He didn't say anything, he just roar before brutally planting his head inside the energy beam apparently trying to fry him in it. Which while a bit impossible did hurt Spider-Man as he cried out of misery.
"Goblin, no! GET HIM OUTTA THERE!" shout Kingpin to Norman.
It was then that hell broke out (not literally but still).
The energy beam became instable, and what look like a black hole was starting to form inside it. At the same time I saw many of those colorful energy enter inside me. while I my view became a bit blurry and I was hearing voices again.
[Woman voice] *'Wilson! Where are we?'*
[Gwanda voice] *'Really weird.'*
[Tobey voice] *'HARRY!'*
[Andrew voice] *'I got you Gwen!'*
[Male voice] *'Team Forge, baby!'*
[Spider-Man Voice] *'I am Spider-Man!'*
For me what was really weird wasn't that I was hearing things, it was that beyond that energy beam, I saw many web of many colors for a moment while seeing many of those people talking a second ago.
Then for some reason, of those many colorful webs, only the blue one stayed. And from it I saw the face of five individuals.
'Is that Gwanda?'
Before five blue energy balls came out of the instable energy beam. And when I saw that, I knew that it wouldn't end up well. And I was right. The result of it?
BOOOOOM
A big explosion that engulfed the hole room and destroying almost everything in it.
I myself was very lucky, because I survived and wasn't to hurt even after falling from such hight.
Because of that, I started to search around for anything remotely alive in this now charred room full of quite possibly toxic black smoke.
After a while, I stumbled upon the dead body of the Green Goblin, giving me the fright of my life.
"Oh my God!"
In both of my life I never saw the dead body of anybody! And what made it more impactful for me was that for me, the Green Goblin like Spider-Man had that weird plot armor that makes it so no matter what damage he takes, he'll always survive. And for me that wasn't something I could accept, because if that was the case then...
'Wait, if he's down then... OH MY GOD, WHAT ABOUT PETER?'
Running through the rubles and metal plates, I searched frantically for the proof that could refute an idea that was dangerously forming inside my mind.
'No, no, no, no, no! It can't be!'
"Please don't be dead!"
I Finally found half of the upper part of his body near the now collapsed giant 'cannon' while the rest was under a boulder. Seeing this, I could help but to shout his name.
"Spider-Man! Are you okay? Please don't be dead!"
I rapidly reached him and without much effort I took that boulder, and threw it away.
'That's new' I thought a bit distracted.
But, this, result in making me know that he was still alive, as he groaned out of relief from the weight removed from him. And that in return made sigh of relief too.
'This is Spider-Man after all.'
But he was still in a bad state: part of his mask and suits were missing.
Seeing him like this made me remember those superhero movies. There were always that scene at the end were the hero looked as if a simple touch could make him fall, never stand again. But the amazing this was he still did anyway. And those moments, were for me the coolest moments because at that moment, you could almost see his body cry everywhere "Even if you are stronger than me. Even if I can't win I'll still stand up, beat you up and save them! Because that's what a hero do." And just after that he beat the guy and save the day.
But today, after seeing that in reality. After seeing his tragic state, all I wanted to do, was to tell him "You did enough, just sleep and let other take your place.". But I also knew that I couldn't do that. Because it wasn't the time or the moment, and I was pretty sure that he would have refused too.
Seeing him awake I started by the dumbest questions.
"Spider-Man, hey, are you still there? Are you okay?"
'Why did I asked that question, of course he's not okay Miles, can't you see it?'
But Spider-Man being himself was still kind to reply to that.
"Yeah, I'm fine, I'm fine. Don't worry about it. I just, need to rest a little bit."
Hearing that, while still a bit worried, I was more relieved.
"So, can you get up? Because I don't think it will be a good thing if Kingpin find us like that, or I could just also hold you."
Strangely, after hearing my question he laughed at it like it the best joke I've done. I was pretty sure there was an internal joke there, but I didn't get it.
"Ha ha ha ha. Yeah, yeah. Don't worry, I always get up kiddo."
He tried to stand up but just after that, he started to cough violently, forcing him to lay on the ground again and making me more worried. It also make remember that heroes were supposed to be good liars.
"Yeah, I don't think you're okay. I should probably help you stand up."
"Did the coughing gave it away? I knew I should have prevented him from talking."
Not having time for other joke, both of us heard not too far away from here, a voice we didn't want to hear. Especially right now.
"He couldn't have gotten too far, find him."
Said Kingpin coldly, making both Spider-Man and I remember where we were and the danger around.
Seeing that time was missing, Spider-Man took out a USB key before giving it to my while explaining himself.
"Listen, we don't have much time. So we'll split up job. This override key is the only way to stop the collider."
'So, that's the name of those two cannons? But wait a second if he gave that to me, then...'
Understanding directly the implication, I directly put a stop to it.
"Wait. Stop. No, no, no, no, no, no! I refuse. You can't ask me to go up there and stop that machine! I'm just a normal 14 years old kid! I don't want to be a hero, and I can't do it anyway!"
Instead of being disappointed or dissatisfied on my ranting, Spider-Man chuckled at it.
"I don't think we have to much options, kid. Beside, my hands are a bit tired to hold that key again. And like they say finder, keeper."
"I'll hold you all of the way if I have too and make you do it yourself. But I can't do it, man!"
"Ha ha ha. Cough, cough! I don't think that will change much of the plan I was concocting."
Seeing my scared and uncomfortable face, Peter lost all trace of joking and became serious.
"Honestly if I had the time to explain everything to you on the super powered life, I would, but I can't. You don't want to be a super hero, that's fine. You want a normal life, that's fine too. But for people like us, that kind of choices are out reach.
Their are only a limited amount of options for us, and that is the responsibility on how to wield those powers. You can run away from them for a while, but there will come a day, when you will have to choose between them. When you will have to choose between taking on those responsibilities or run away from them. But at the end running away from them always ends up badly for someone. It could be for you, or it could be for your family. That day, you won't ask yourself if it is that day, because unfortunately for you, that day is today!
If Kingpin turns the machine on once again, everything you know and care about will disappear. Everything! If I could I'll do it myself but I can't right now, while you can. Kid, you have the key. This your moment. You decide."
At that moment, I understood heroes a little bit more and I also understood what he was trying to tell me. Right now, right here, it wasn't a question about if I wanted to be hero or not. Or a question of if I wanted people to think that I was still normal. It was a question of if I wanted to see my parents tomorrow. I literally had in my hand a way to let it that happen and at the same time not letting it happen.
Spider-Man probably couldn't move for a while, and I didn't think Ironman even knew what's going on! Not to mention coming in time.
Looking at the override key, with a new determination burning inside my chest I made my choice.
"Okay, I'll do it."
Sighing of relief, Spider-Man took off his web shooters, before placing them on my arms.
"A gift for your first and hopefully your last mission before your eighteen. Don't worry about me I can make other easily. Listen, you need to hide your face. It's to protect your love one's. Don't tell anyone who you are. Nobody can know. Nobody."
Understanding I nodded but he wasn't finished.
"Now, I want you to promise me, this it important. I want you to promise that no matter what happen in the next fight between Kingpin and me you won't come back. Just push the green button and destroy the collider. No matter what happen, just take care of the collider and nothing else okay? Don't fight them. Let me take care of it. Promise me."
Before I could talk, or think about it, time seems to stop. But it wasn't because of my bullet time this time around.
A wave of energy different from my lightning ones (now renamed Venom bolts) from within me spread outside and started to quickly enveloped me like a multi-colored gelly like armor. Still without my commands, that gelly like energy moved on its own to create a blue portal in the form of a web, before pulling my spirit out of my body, to the portal.
Do you remember that time when the Ancient One took Strange through different dimensions at high speed? That was the current me. Except that I didn't think that I was traveling through different dimensions, but more like through parallel universe of 'what if' scenario. Because in this blue web dimension, I could see sometimes different pictures or short videos of places or people. Some I regonize because of who they were, other because of what they wear. There were also place and people I didn't recognize, but even though, it was still enough for me to guess a little where I was and what were those images, because they were all related to the Marvel universe.
As quickly as I entered into this (Spider dimension? Still working on the name so don't judge). Even though it feels like I was inside for a long time, I quickly exit from there and reach my new destination in a blinding light.
Opening my eyes, the first things, other than four other people in a leaving room with me, was the fact that I wasn't in that now wrecked place anymore.
The second thing that I noticed, was that I knew three of the people who stood in front of me and that it should be normally impossible for all of them to be in the same place at the same time. Especially not in a living room of a typical New York house.
I mean can you imagine? Captain America, Nick Fury and Mary Jane Watson with me and an older lady under the same roof? Especially when it's seems like they were all disagreeing with each other.
"There's no need to discuss anything! I won't agree with this. And all of you should too."
Started Captain America with strong tone, accusing everyone with his glare before focusing it on MJ and the woman.
"Spider-... We just had a funeral for Peter, your nephew, your boyfriend, two weeks ago. And now you want me to accept that another kid with almost the same age, and powers, will go in the streets to play super hero too? And then what? Get killed like him? Are you out of your mind?"
'Wait, what are they talking about? Peter is dead? How is it possible? That's Spider-Man! And why can't I move my body ?'
"Captain, you don't have to try to make us feel guilty when we're not the one cover in blood. Miles doesn't need your approval to do what he wants to do with his life. That, is his choice. And none of us can interfere with it."
Said MJ with disgust as she frown at the Captain.
"Please don't try to make it as if you understand what it feels like when you are in charge of a teenager. A kid. That you train him. But even though you still don't think he was trained enough you still allowed him to follow you under his insistance. But because of that, he get himself killed. This, is not something I will allow ever again. Even if I have to tell his parents, or say his secret identity to the world so that he will stop, I'll do it."
Retorted the Captain to her with a great determination.
Then the woman that I now identified as aunt May chimed in calmly.
"If you think you're the one who cause Peter's death, Captain Roger. Then instead of trying to stop his successor to do what he thinks is just. You should be trying to help him to do better. To be, better, so that a new tragedy can be avoided. Because you can be sure of something: People like Miles and Peter can't be stopped, even with those threats. You will just make it harder for him to not die by doing so, not stop him."
At that point, I saw Furry wanting to joined their debate, but I couldn't hear or see it anymore, because that energy once again enveloped me. This time to take me home.
Returning to the same place I quit, with a Peter Parker still alive, but not in a very good state. I started to get a little confused about just happen. But then I remembered in which situation I was.
Looking at him, Peter B. Parker, after the discussion that I heard. I just couldn't take what he tried to make me promise in a very good light. Because what he was saying was looking like the last words of a dying man. So it made me hesitated a little before gritting my teeth and compromising.
"I promise."
After Hearing the words he wanted to hear Spider-Man chase me away.
"Go. Destroy the collider!"
With a new goal, in mind I started to run, but remembering what the Captain said. Worried, I turned my head to see Spider-Man looking at me.
"Go! I'll join you in a bit. Don't worry I'm gonna be okay."
'Yeah, what I'm thinking about? That's Spider-Man! The eternal teenage guy!'
Shaking my head and chasing away any bad thoughts I went on my way once again.
After founding what seemed like a cemetery for scaffolds, I climbed one of them to get a better view on my objective' location. After a few seconds beyond the thick smoke, I saw the green light of the button, still bright on the ceiling.
But seeing how far it was, it almost made me desperate. But knowing that my family, friends and the world fate count on me, I ignore the protest of my body and prepare myself for the climb of my life.
But before I could do anything, I saw Kingpin, the Prowler and Tombstone. Coming towards Spider-Man. Seeing that, I tried to hide myself some wooden board, while still having some view on what's going on.
"Tombstone. Call Olivia, and tell her to get to make that machine work again. The sooner the better."
Obeying Kingpin's orders Tombstone took another direction and soon disappeared as Kingpin and the Prowler stood in front of Spider-Man.
"I'd like to say that I'm glad you're still alive Spider-Man, but I'm not.
Not perturbed by that unwelcoming greeting, the later still did.
"Hey, Kingpin! Glad to see you too. Sorry for the mess. As you can see, the party was a bit too explosive. But don't worry the Goblin and I will fix that later, and hey maybe you can join u-. Aw that's a no-no."
Spider-Man said as Kingpin take off his mask. The later just laugh at it.
A brief silence followed before Spider-Man tried to warn Kingpin on how dangerous is his plan.
"Kingpin, don't do this. Your machine is going to create a black hole under Brooklyn. It's not worth it."
But Kingpin reply surprised me.
"Sometimes, it's not about money Spider-Man. Especially not this time."
As if receiving a silent signal, Prowler started to walk toward Spider-Man to finish the job, who apparently wasn't done in the talking.
"I know what you're trying to do. I saw it inside."
Hearing that, Kingpin stopped the Prowler, and signal with his head to continue. Peter then looked at as if he was going to announce the death of someone as he looked at Wilson Fisk with pity. He told him with a tone of regret, something Fisk didn't want to hear.
"It won't work Fisk. They're gone."
That immediately made Kingpin angry beyond mesure. It was like he transformed into the Hulk itself.
Not wanting to hear the truth, Kingpin wanted to eliminate the one who spread it, from the source, with own hand.
With his arms in the air, Kingpin definitely wanted to end Spider-Man. And killing him he did.
I knew, because I saw it in the most painful way to watched it.
As if my powers were mocking me and and just so I couldn't miss anything, my bullet time started to activate again. And so, I was forced to watch as Kingpin slowly fall his fists on Spider-Man body. The force he gathered on that hit was to powerful, that it created a small crater under the now cold body of Spider-Man.
I didn't know when my bullet time wearied off. I didn't know how much time passed since the hit. Because when it fists it hit him. The moment the body shut off, at the same time, my mind blanked.
It was only when Kingpin talked again that I realized. Spider-Man was dead. Peter Parker was dead. The first superhero of the century, the first hero I met in real life was now dead on our first encounter. For me, that was surreal.
"Get ride of the body."
That only sentence of Kingpin made me realize many thing at that time: heroes could die and the so called plot armor didn't exist. But at the same time it made me feel something that I never felt in this new life : rage. Rage on Kingpin and on how he treated the body of a respectable hero. And so I stopped hiding, and did the first thing that crossed my mind.
"DON'T TOUCH HIM!!"
Yep, I stupidly attracted the attention of two super villain who just killed a hero, but I was angry.
Fortunately I didn't lost all my mind, so I didn't go down to fight them recklessly even though I wanted to, I didn't have the skills to do so, and I made a promise too. But it didn't mean that I could let them do anything they wanted to do with Peter's body.
So, as I was yelling, I also shoot a web targeting Peter body. And luckily it hit his chest. Then without wasting a single second, I yanked my arm back with all the strength I could muster with my new power making it fly quickly at me. Because of inertia and it's size too, even after catching it properly, the body still make me fall.
But I didn't have any time to waste, so after quickly standing up. I didn't even bother removing the web on his chest and I didn't know how to anyway. So I put Spider-Man on my back and started running like never before. Just in time to hear to the roar of Kingpin, understanding what just happened and ordering The Prowler to chase me.
"KILL HIM!! I WANT SPIDER-MAN'S BODY!"
I was lucky that I was near the entrance from where I came from. So even though I didn't I didn't took the same door, because the room where Norman almost killed me had many doors connected to it. Mine was one of it. I was able to came back to that room again. From there, it was easier to retrace my way up to freedom.
I didn't know if It was because of my new power, or because of the instinct of survival, but my parkour became way smoother than before. And because of that, as I zigzag through the obstacles with ease, I was able distance myself from the collider room in a time record.
But even like that, it still wasn't enough to escape from the Prowler. I could even say with certainty that he was gaining on me.
But I couldn't allow that. Because I knew that the moment he catch upon me, it was game over. So I tried something different. I tried to control my powers. One that could helped me.
I tried to search for an energy in my chest, while focusing on running without falling. Luckily I found it without a hitch. And the moment I did. Without me doing anything else, like the first time it's started to rapidly gather electricity from somewhere and grow. Now all I needed to do was trying to make it stay inside for as long as I could. But it wasn't easy, because for every meters I run, he went through three. And I was afraid that by the time he catch up with me my venom bolt wouldn't be powerful enough.
'A little bit Miles, just hold on a little longer!'
At that point, we were already already on the railway of the subway, and he was already ten meters away from me.
Nine meters...
Eight meters...
Seven..
Six...
Five...
The moment he reach five meters, my venom bolt was fully charged. So without wasting time, as if I trained on this move many times before. With a fluid movement, I slew to 90° to my left, raised my left arm and discharge my lightning bolt to him.
I didn't wait to know the result, because I immediately resumed my running just after. But even then, by the painful cry I could hear from the prowler and a big explosion right after that sounded behind me. I knew more or less the result of our little confrontation. But I still didn't want to take any risk.
Fortunately, even after running out of subway and returning to the buzzing live of the city, nobody was following me.
After confirming that no one in a crazy costume was after me, while getting weird gaze toward me probably because of the body in a Spider-Man suit that was on back. I started to think about my next plan of actions.
I had to found a way to make people know about Spider-Man, so he could die with all the honors he deserved. But I had to make it so they don't relate it to me.
And as for the next step, it was already decided since the utter the two words. My mother told me, our family doesn't from our problems and today, I intended to follow that. Because my city depend on it. They depend on a promise that I intended to keep.
