The Man's Past Part II

I pictured what Geo told us, how Gil, his blood sister was auctioned off before his own eyes while he just stood there, unable to rescue her from the fangs of the predator who purchased her. I imagined the pain he must have passed through at the time, and how much regret he still feels to this day.

I don't have a sister, I am the only child of my parents but I have Jane, who has been my best friend for so long, and I pictured how it would feel to see Jane sold off before my eyes while I stand there unable to save her. The thought of it alone is dreadful and right there I felt that I will do whatever it takes to make sure Jane does not end up at the auction house or with any pregnant man.

"I later found out..." continued Geo "a few days after the auction that the military, as well as the government, were aware of the auction where humans are sold but refused to interfere because elite members of the society are partaking in the auction. I even received information that the auction house is owned by a government official and the government receives dividends from the auctions. Don't you think that's the reason they are playing dumb, blind, and deaf to everything? Geo asked.

I agree with Geo because is a bigger entity than a bunch of affluent men, so they couldn't have ignored their acts out of fear of a consequence. The government obviously had reasons for letting such acts continue. They are earning from it.

"Few months after Gil got sold off, the war started. As soldiers, we knew that people are being used as meat shields in the war but I never expected my brother to get kidnapped and sent to the battlefield.

Prior to my brother getting picked up, I already have intentions of leaving the military because I discovered that there is a gang that works for the military. They help the military to capture men, and keep them somewhere before sending them to battle. I also discovered that one of the Commanders is working with this gang and they are also the one who captures the girls that are sold off at the auction house.

So when my brother suddenly disappeared, I knew the military and its ally gang are responsible for it. Me not wanting a repeat of what happened to Gil decided to leave the military immediately. I submitted a resignation letter and left the barracks. I found the leader of the gang somehow and I asked to join his gang which he agreed instantly, probably because of my physique so he thought I would be a good asset.

Without much ado, I joined the gang and I was transferred to be the leader of this base. That's why I don't trust most of them yet. I made a lot of inquiries and it wasn't hard for me to find where the meat shields are kept. I discovered my brother had not been transported yet and I was glad. I started devising to rescue my brother but they weren't kept in this base which made it very hard for me so I had to look for other ways to get him out. I just could not sit down and let another of my sibling go away. I've kept the news of Gil's departure away from my mother perfectly, it will be too devastating to tell her that two of her kids are gone, just like that." Geo paused and I wonder how Mom reacted when she learned that I have been kidnapped too, I could not imagine how miserable she'll be if someone told her that I was dead.

"I began to think and I realized the other way I could get him out of there was through force. The boss would not accept if I beg him to let me take my brother out of the meat shields. He has no feeling of sympathy or empathy. So I decided that I'll ambush them when they are being transported to the battlefield. So I called two of my boys whom I trusted, we planned and put everything in place to attack the vehicle that is transporting them and then rescue them.

That day came and I left the base along with the two boys that I had called. I can leave the base at any time due to my position as the leader of the base. We took our weapons and all that is needed for the mission. According to the information mati received, there will be two soldiers to assist the transporter but most times they don't face attacks so they never bother to increase the number of escorts.

We laid in ambush for the vehicle and they showed not long after as expected. We shot at their tires and the vehicle stopped. The Soldiers started shooting at our direction but we did well to take cover and we were not hurt. We were having the upper hand because one of my boys soon shot down one of the soldiers, I hit the other soldier and he dropped to the floor. It was remaining the transporter alone, while one of the boys drew agro, I rushed to the van and broke the lock setting the meat shields free. But something unexpected happen thereafter" Geo looked at us with pitiful eyes, it seems as if he will burst into tears any time now.

"I don't know how they got information or maybe they are just following them as backup, when I looked behind me, I saw a military vehicle with at least ten soldiers inside and they started shooting from distance. I had broken the lock and the people were beginning to storm out of the van. I ran to where the boys were standing, one had been injured but I could not ask why because there was a bigger issue.

The soldier had gotten to the van and had ordered everyone to stand still, they all froze as guns were pointed at them, except one person. I'm sure he had seen me when I opened the van, I could not look for him then due to the soldiers. He was running towards where me, and when they saw him took flight, like five other people joined him as well.

As he started running towards me, I began to shoot at the soldiers so I could cover him but before he could take cover he had been shot along with the other five. That was how Gray was taken away by death before my eyes. I could not do anything. I could not stop them." Geo started sobbing. I wish I could console him. He has passed through a lot. Two siblings taken away right before your eyes is a very painful thing. I wanted to say comforting words to Geo but Jane best me to it.

"Sorry Geo," Jane said and placed a hand on his wild shoulder. I also joined her as Geo now seem uncontrollable. He was sobbing like a kid now.

"I started shooting rapidly at the shoulders" Geo resumed after he calmed down a little. "I was shooting and left myself vulnerable, my carelessness end up costing me my boys too as they were killed while trying to bring me to cover." if Geo was sobbing like a kid before, he was sobbing like one who lost his parents and a candy now. He looks so pitiful. Jane and I kept comforting him. I wondered what it was like to lose a loved one, and comrades. When I look at Geo, I remember a poem Mum read to me sometime ago.

When death take our loved ones away

It leaves us with bitter memories but to relay

And in wailings and sobs we let them lay.
