Anna entered the car and let out a heavy sigh. Mateo looked at her and waited for her to start talking. He could understand why she wanted to go through all of this when they could just grab the kid and leave.
She knew how he felt about everything that they were doing.
He glanced at the bad she was carrying and wondered why she had bothered to buy all the toys.
"I told them I had a kid ", Anna said as she laid back in her seat.
"Well you didn't have to buy the toys ", Mateo said.
"Well lying is one thing and going along with the lie is another thing. I couldn't return them the men who were tailing her were looking at me funny ", Anna said.
"Are you sure they didn't follow you ?", Mateo asked as she turned to look if anyone was tailing their car but there was no one. For that moment they were safe.
It was as if just with a snap of a finger Anna had turned to be someone else. She was playing the game with everybody else but with that, she had stripped all of her humanity.
She didn't care what she had to do to stay ahead of everyone else. She was done being weak because being weak only got you hurt in the end.
She didn't care what the kid would go through if she took him. All she wanted was to earn respect and to do that you had to be ruthless. You had to think with your head and nut your heart.
She was done being emotional and thinking of how something would affect someone else. No one thought of her like that.
They didn't care if she died or survived. It was just how the game was okayed.
Scarface should have been smart. He had a family. He knew how things were done and sooner or later it would have been used against him.
She figured that it was the reason that he and the mother of the kid lived like normal people.
They didn't live a normal life though if she had found that out. He had tried to make them blend in with the locals but she lived quite an amazing life for someone who did not have a job.
The White House faced the lake and gave away everything that she wanted to know about them.
At first, she thought that maybe they were his relatives but no they were not. They did t have guards watching them but she could see the same men lurking around her house over and over again.
She had seen them watching her while she went shopping.
Vanessa was a sweet woman Anna could tell. She had never seen Scarface going over to the house to see the kid.
Did Jason even know who his dad was?
They lived quite lonely life from what she could tell. The only places they went were to church and to go shopping.
She had watched the kid playing with his friends countless times. Anyone who had seen her lurking around could have thought she was a stalker but she was doing it for good measure.
She was doing something Scarface would have done if he was in her position. The only difference was that she didn't have a family to protect.
She had a husband who had already been attacked and was in the hospital. She had nothing to lose, that was how to pay the game.
Have nothing that they would use to bed you to your knees.
"Are we going back to the hotel ?", Mateo asked her bringing her back to reality.
"Yes ", she said.
He wondered why she never left her room. They had been in Acapulco for a week now and every time they were done with business she would go back to her room.
Why pay for an expensive hotel when all you did was sleep?
He could never tell when she was happy or when she was sad. She always had just one look on her face that he could never read.
On so many occasions he wanted to know if she was doing okay but figured that it was not in his place to ask.
She knew a couple of things about him though including the fact that he had a daughter. She was six years old and she was the most adorable baby girl.
When he had shown her the picture she had smiled and hoped that one day she could have one of those. She had been reminded of what had happened earlier that week and her smile had faded.
"You'll take these toys to your daughter, I don't have kids to take them to ", Anna said and Mateo didn't question.
She seemed to be in her world and he didn't want to start a conversation with her.
She missed Vincenzo but she didn't even know if he wanted to talk to her. She had called him a couple of times and called the hospital but the phone was never answered and when it was she was either told that he was asleep or the doctor was with him.
She didn't want to think about him at the moment but he could escape her thoughts.
She wondered what he would have thought if she had told him she had been pregnant and lost the baby. Would he have been sad?
Did he even want a baby with her?
It was a question she'd never get an answer to unless she asked him. She felt like every day that she was away working the distance between them grew and they couldn't be saved anymore.
Maybe she was just overthinking things. All she needed to do was go back to her husband and make sure that he was okay.
The ringing of the phone startled her and she wondered who was calling her.
It was Dylan and she hoped that everything was okay with the shipment she couldn't handle messing things up.
