Protectors

"I guess, I will let it slide this time." Robin replied, keeping his gaze low to avoid hers.

"Okay!" She smiled as she slid into her seat.

"Okay?" He looked in her direction, despite himself.

"Yes! It's okay if you don't want to be my friend. Making and becoming friends with each other should be based on choice, not on force."

"But how is becoming friends not forced, when you start expecting something in return? And at the end you are just left with nothing but disappointment, because everyone you thought had your back, just left you in the middle of nowhere."

"I promise- whether we will be friends or not, I won't be leaving you in the middle." She replied, flashing him an adorable smile.

Present time:

"Where is she and HOW THE HELL IS SHE IN THIS CONDITION?!" The intruder roared, holding the collars of David's shirt with both hands.

"She had promised to stay, and she has never broken any promise to date! Then where is she...tell me!? What about the rumors that are going on in the whole territory?"

Louis acted quickly and parted the two, or the fight would definitely have become more intense.

While Robin was still ready to kill David with a single glance, David was not even responding.

'He hadn't even responded when Robin had grabbed his collar and threatened him, there was definitely something going on in his head.'

Henry thought to himself, and came forward to talk to Robin. Patting his shoulder, he said, "Robin, calm down. She is alive, although-"

"She is alive?" Robin's eyes started to sparkle again. He asked hopefully, "Where is she? Please take me to her, I just want to see her. She had told me that she would never leave me, and- and look! She has not broken her promise, I know she would never do so."

"I would have taken you to her, but she is still in the ICU, so we can't visit her. But you can see her from here, have a look…"

Henry pointed his finger towards the glass window that was giving the testimony of her flickering presence on earth.

Robin looked at the almost lifeless body on the hospital bed, surrounded with plenty of medical equipment just to keep her alive and breathing.

The chapters of memory unfolded and Robin remembered how the girl had become his family in the duration of all these years, how he and Myron were her two protectors, apart from Louis- she still had the bad habit of seeing only the good side of a bad person, too.

As Robin walked towards the window, Louis cornered David to ask why he hadn't reacted; and what exactly had happened that had led her to this situation.

David let his question slide, adding another question from his end.

"Everyone is either present here or has come by, apart from the person who claimed to be her sole protector and had announced the only aim of his life to be her protection. Why isn't he here yet? Where is Myron!?"

Valerie was still waiting for Nora and Myron to return, but it was getting quite late- the two of them were never this careless.

She thought of calling them, and pulling out her phone, she dialed Nora's number first. When she heard the sound of ringing coming from the backyard of the house, she quickly rushed towards the back door, thinking that finally, at least one of them from the brother-sister duo had arrived.

'Today she would really scold her for leaving the house without informing her, didn't she know how scared she was these days, ever since Myron had told her about the conspiracy?!

In case anything happened to her, what would she tell him?'

But when she opened the door and went out to the backyard, she found Nora's phone lying on the ground.

Her heart was covered by the dark clouds of uncertainty and fear- Nora never left her phone unattended like this.

She rushed to her room after grabbing the phone, to find that she had not taken any of her weapons either.

Now the clouds of fear had managed to capture the entire sky of her heart; she quickly dialed Myron's number with her breaths getting shorter.

The call went unanswered; she quickly found the nearest chair and grasped the handle as she lowered herself into it, or else she would definitely have fallen down due to her shaking legs.

Looking at her belly where her future pups were probably sleeping or waiting to join them, she spoke, "Don't worry, baby. Dadda and Aunt will be returning soon, you all need to be strong till then! So what do we have to do?"

She caressed her belly again and spoke,

"Yes, then let's go and eat something, okay!

Otherwise, aunt and daddy will both be mad at mumma for staying hungry, and keeping you all hungry with me as well."

Despite all the fear crowding her mind and the disturbing questions which were shaking her being, she was trying to minimise her stress and anxiety by assuring herself that everything was alright, as she couldn't go out in this condition.

"Although you have solved this question , don't think I am impressed by you!" Professor Nolan announced, when he finally found his voice.

"There might be a chance that you cheated, or perhaps somebody has helped you in doing this. Tell me the names of your future probable interests for the fight? And do you even get this chance, or is this competition supposed to fall into your brother's court?"

'Nora's heart was pierced one more time, by someone wielding the same question as a weapon against her. But why was she not supposed to be able to solve the question? Why was she not expected to know the correct answer, just because she was a girl?

Or because - she was not an Alpha!? The forbidden truth squeezed her heart in its chokehold. The truth that she was not even allowed to mention- not in front of anyone, not in front of herself either. Because after all these years, she might be unaware of her real personality- but she was completely sure of the fact that she was not an Alpha.'

"That's not right, professor!" Ryan was the one to oppose his show of authority.

She looked up in surprise and confusion upon hearing his voice.

'She remembered that he was not there when she had entered the class; then how had he managed to enter without any drama?'

The boy sitting with her leaned towards her and whispered, "Don't look at him with surprise, the more you attend this school, the more you will come to know about the politics here. Every teacher has a favorite student- they treat them as their primary focus, and the others as secondary. Or sometimes, they act like the other students don't even need any attention or to learn anything, just because they are not going to be the King or in a higher position."

"But how- how do you know all this?" She stuttered while asking, as a number of things were running through her mind.

"Because I am the younger son of the Matthew couple, and the only brother of David Matthew."

He dropped yet another bomb on Nora.
