While the public crowd enjoyed their time with each other, some VIPs decided to join in on the merry atmosphere while some decided to end the day here.
Long Ren and Yun Ning belonged in the latter category. Mingling further with everyone isn't really something the both of them are too keen upon.
Especially since they've made an infamy of themselves. Were they to be discovered, the consequences would be dire.
…
Just kidding.
There would be absolutely no repercussions whatsoever, but that would require them giving up their noble identity in return for a chance to talk with the commoners, something they aren't too favoured about.
Long Ren and Yun Ning stood up from their comfy positions and head towards a certain part of the room. They stood upon a small floor covered by rune engravings.
The runes looked simple yet exuded quite the amount of Qi. To the weak them, it neared infinite.
Yun Ning chained her hands with Long Ren's as he poured his Qi onto the engraved floor rune and soon, their vision blurred as the surroundings changed.
The still and quiet atmosphere from before had now been invaded by the sounds of the moving masses. Muffled whispers of trades and beckonings soon encapsulate the area.
Same position, yet different surroundings. What a simple but powerful teleportation spell.
They viewed their surroundings and found themselves to be in an alleyway. It was slightly dark, but the illumination of the sun was sufficient for them to determine their current location.
They followed the sounds and soon arrived at a clear road. Some stared at their figures as they moved away from the alleyway.
They appeared shady, no doubt, coming from a small gap and all, but not shady enough to hold prolonged attention.
People stopped looking and went about their day, and so did the pair.
"What do you want to do next?" Long Ren asked. He had nothing else planned, considering he only went because Yun Ning invited him.
"Hmm.."Yun Ning thought out. She looked around and found the sun still gazes from above their head, around 2 PM. "Find something to eat maybe?" She said.
"Restaurant or just food stalls?" Long Ren asked. He had seen several food stalls, now and before, selling small foods they could carry along, and most of them looked and smell delicious.
Before, he was a bit too preoccupied with Yun Ning's episode to notice, but now, it's almost illegal how they openly burn skewered meat along with its fragrant herbs.
It's too much temptation for the innocent and hungry passersby.
So, they could try the lighter options if they went with the food stall route, but a more fulfilling meal would be from the restaurant. Either way, he's fine with any.
"Let's try that," She said, pointing at the skewered meat food stall he noticed before. Turns out, the charred display captivated her as well.
"Sure,"
…
…
The pair arrived at the small food stall standing itself at the corner of two streets. People were gathered near the grilling area as they watched the skillful master do his work.
They enjoyed the display quite amiably. Some even had strings of saliva dangling from their mouth, but they were too focused on the show in front of them to notice.
The place wasn't as rowdy as one would've initially thought. Those who watched remembered to keep some form of their manners.
The only sounds in the area were the crackles of fire and the charring of those meat temptresses. The burnt smell of its sauce and herbs only added to the allure for the drooling bystanders.
Long Ren turned his attention away from the chef and found the queuing line. It was long, but thankfully, it dissipates quite fast.
Their turn arrived just a few minutes after and they got a sense of what the stall offered.
The menus list several types of grilled and charred skewered meats and other less common organs. Long Ren noticed they also sold charred greens and felt quite surprised.
Cultivators, unlike normal humans, do not need to watch their diet as closely as they do on Earth. As a result, healthy but generally unpalatable foods have become obsolete.
Of course, greens are still sold and traded, but with its main benefit being thrown out, they secure much less of the food market.
Long Ren decided to try some charred greens, since, for once, he missed eating those things.
He had been eating nothing but delicious meats, rice, bread, basically anything but greens. It's about time to go back to his roots and eat some, well, roots.
"What do you want?" Long Ren asked.
Long Ren hoped to share so that they could try a variety of items without leaving any leftovers. He may have the money, but wasting food is something he would avoid if he could.
"How about one of everything?" Yun Ning said and immediately ordered.
Long Ren looked at her baffled but let her be. He did not expect her to do this but after remembering her appetite and the amount of food Diona fed her, it seemed quite normal.
Looks like they will receive a fulfilling meal regardless of where they go.
(A/N: Smol chapter, sorry.)
