Through the crowd
In the area surrounded by the militia, there was a battered corpse. Shreds of flesh hung on its blood-red skeleton. Bits of clothing and bloodstains were scattered around.
At first glance of this body, Kane felt both physically and mentally uncomfortable. Although he had seen many corpses since coming to this world, this was the first time he'd seen one so miserably that it made him uneasy.
"As you can see, this body was preyed upon by wolves. The unfortunate victim was a young girl named Leia from the town, who had gone to gather herbs. We asked her neighbors; she did not return last night."
Uncle Ge Mu, covering his nose, explained the situation to Kane.
After listening, Kane roughly knew why he was called here and confirmed it with Ge Mu.
"So, the wolves that attacked this young girl are likely the same ones that attacked Aunt Leia last month, right?"
Last month, in the Broken Barrel Tavern, Kane overheard people discussing this. Curious, he had once asked the militia members who enjoyed drinking to confirm it.
He learned a rough account of the events.
"Yes."
"After our preliminary investigation, we confirmed it was the same pack of wolves. This is already the second time. Among them, there is probably a Magic Beast with intelligence leading this pack, which will cause unacceptable harm to the people around."
Ge Mu thought for a moment and said gravely, "Not to mention that they have already tasted the sweetness of human flesh."
In this world, all intelligent beings have magical power, it's just whether they have the talent to activate it. Meanwhile, for these beasts, flesh infused with magical power is a true delicacy; once tried, it cannot be forgotten.
And the reason they sought out Kane was because he was the only hunter in town who had hunted down a Magic Beast in the forest, which made him the best hunter nearby.
After all, fighting a Magic Beast and hunting one in the forest are two completely different things.
Upon hearing this, Kane realized why they sought him out and asked, "So you want me to hunt down the Magic Wolf Monarch in this pack of wolves?"
Ge Mu nodded, "That's right, you're the only one with experience in hunting Magic Beasts."
Hunting a Magic Beast was something Kane had no reason to refuse. After all, it related to unlocking new functions and skills in the system, not to mention the spoils and the town's bounty.
After all, who doesn't love money?
"No problem, leave this Wolf Monarch to me. Just prepare the bounty."
"Hahaha, of course, of course, the reward will surely not disappoint you."
"How about 20 gold?"
"Deal."
After negotiating the price, Kane bid farewell to Uncle Ge Mu and went home to prepare his equipment.
......
The sky was dim and drizzly
The gentle breeze made the originally serene Laka Forest rustle, and this weather would affect a hunter's pursuit of prey.
However
Kane wasn't just any ordinary hunter; he possessed real skills.
Kane hung upside down in the tree canopy using a thick strand of Spider Silk, his eyes transformed into the form of Eagle Eye. He followed the wolves' tracks to this place and had already located their den.
A few kilometers away, the copper-colored lupine magic was so apparent in the "Eagle Eye." The shrubs and trees blocking the way seemed superfluous in front of the "Eagle Eye's" microscopic view.
Sliding down the Spider Silk to the ground
He bled a rabbit he caught along the way, tying it with Spider Silk beneath a tree as bait.
Kane then wove a spider web between the tree canopies, sticking himself to it, preparing to wait patiently.
The time had come to test the hunter's patience.
However, the hunter didn't have to wait long; with a howl, the pack had already caught the scent of the prey.
Of course, the real hunter also sensed the prey's scent and instinctively slowed his breathing.
The bushes slightly rustled
The wolf pack had silently encircled the area. From above, it was a pack led by a single dark green Wolf Monarch and eight ordinary gray wolves.
By appearance, they still seemed like a young pack.
They crept towards the dying rabbit, cautious and patient.
But the real hunter had already found the perfect timing.
Both wrists shook rapidly
"Whoosh, whoosh"
Several sounds of something breaking through the air
The cautious wolf pack had no time to react and was wrapped up by balls of Spider Silk, stuck to the ground unable to move.
Only the Wolf Monarch managed to dodge to one side, but only partially, with its hind legs still caught in the web, causing it to tumble aside.
Kane stood on the spider web, quickly releasing arrows from his bowstring.
The Wolf Monarch, having lost its balance on the ground, was like a lamb waiting for slaughter, unable to dodge.
"Whoosh"
Amidst the piercing sound breaking through the air
The sharp arrow pierced towards the wolf's eye. It made no sound as it ceased to breathe.
The other trapped wolves didn't struggle for long, taken away by arrows swiftly.
Rolling off the web
He crouched beside the lifeless dark green furred corpse of the wolf, a Giant Wolf larger than Kane by a circle, and ran his hand through its fur.
Hard
This wolf's coat felt like resilient steel needles, providing excellent protection for the Wolf Monarch's body.
With a wave
Taking out a transparent Magic Stone from the Magic Array of the Book of Adventure, he started absorbing magical power from the wolf's corpse with it.
Gentle arcs of light like sand grains flowed into the Magic Stone, soon dissipating.
At this moment, the bottom of the transparent Magic Stone revealed a hint of brass color.
Looking at the lit part of the Magic Stone in his hand, Kane patted the wolf's corpse and muttered, "You're pretty weak, little guy."
The green wolf's magical power seemed only two-thirds that of the spider from last time, making it the last entry on Kane's Magic Beast prey leaderboard.
Stowing away the Magic Stone, he began to check for useful spoils.
Running his hands over the wolf's corpse, after inspecting it, he found that apart from the teeth, the skin and flesh, now that the magic had been absorbed, turned out to be ordinary.
Taking the wolf's teeth, Kane stood in place, pondering.
Kara Forest wasn't a huge forest, only slightly dangerous to ordinary people who were not explorers.
Once Kane could use Eagle Eye, mastered archery, and possessed the ability to hunt Magic Beasts. The entire forest suffered; he began to hunt those Magic Beasts. The last Armor-Forger Spider was the final Magic Beast of this forest.
Yet now, a Magic Wolf suddenly appeared out of nowhere, which was puzzling.
It wasn't that Kane was overconfident, but ever since he began hunting, it became increasingly difficult to find these Magic Beasts as if they knew there was someone deadly in this forest. The last spider had already cost Kane much effort to locate, deeming it the final one.
Thinking of this, Kane began swinging on the Spider Silk, heading toward the previously discovered wolf den.
Upon reaching the den, he clearly noticed something amiss; with Eagle Eye, he could already see the faint magical glow scattered in the air.
This was clearly a recent change, as Kane had passed by here before, and the air wasn't like this back then.
Observing the magical power floating in the air for a while, Kane discovered that all the magic power was emanating from a single location.
Looking in that direction, it should be the lair where the Wolf Monarch resided.
Kane pulled out a small torch from his bag, lit it, and cautiously approached the cave.
Using the torch light at the cave entrance, he peeked inside and found the interior space wasn't large, with a stone wall visible at the end, and some beast bones scattered on the ground.
Yet, the cave's air was filled with countless magic power, scattered in the air like the night sky.
Kane had only taken one step inside
Suddenly
A dizzy sensation hit
"Damn it"
