MY WORLD - The blame

You should've come home earlier. You should've smiled a little brighter. You should not have forgotten to see off your mother, that one morning. Wire mother's smile conveyed all these things. Eden finally dares step into the room, now that the shock has worn off, now that father's gone. Careful, as if his steps alone could cause an earthquake, he sinks down on the floor in front of his mother, becomes small.

“Mother” Eden whispers tonelessly, facing the floor. “It was my f... f-fault this time, too, wasn't it?”

Wire mother's limp hand lifts from the floor and strokes his trembling cheek. The words didn't seem to want to come out of her crushed throat, they begin as breathy gurgles.

“Dear... nothing's ever your fault.”

Eden's eyes carefully lift from the floor to face her. Maybe there were some tears left, after all.

“It's all papa's fault.” Wire mother creaks and widens her pallid lips until the skin of her face thins out.
