NOT MY GIRLFRIEND

Lucas' POV

'Because I care about you', I read my text over again, wondering if I had done the right thing by admitting to it and telling her.

But it was the truth. I did care about her. I cared if she was in pain, I cared if she was going through something and was choosing to go through it alone. I cared about her and I was ready to admit it. It may be half the truth, I may not be ready to admit the rest but I was ready to admit this. I glanced at my phone and there wasn't any reply from her. I looked up and she wasn't looking at her phone, she was staring straight at me now. Even with the distance between us and the dusk of evening already settling, I could see and feel her eyes bore into me like she was studying me, trying to discern if I was lying, if I really meant what I said. And I did not waver, I held her gaze and stared back at her. She finally broke off her stare after some time.

Ping!My phone rang.
