She Was Left Behind

"At least you were sensible enough to keep your marriage a secret.  Find time to divorce her.  You can keep her if you want but she can never carry my surname."  George said with finality.

"I have a lot of business associates and close friends whose daughters or granddaughters would be happy to marry you.  You don't lack choices.  Why settle for someone like her?"  George continued to scold Erik.

"Grandpa, you don't even know what she is like.  It is not her fault to be born into a poor family.  She graduated at the top of her class and is very talented.  Her beauty is only secondary to her talents.  Besides, it is as if I need to rely on the strength of my wife's family to succeed."  Erik explained.

George looked at his grandson thoughtfully.  'This rascal is right.  He doesn't need a marriage alliance to be successful.'  But he did not dare to utter his thoughts.
