Chapter 227. Hydra's Base (Part1)

"The Hydra camp is in Krausberg. It's up between these two mountain ranges. It's a factory of some kind."

In the night sky, Howard flew through the front line while Agent Carter explained the situation around Hydra's base to Steve.

"We should be able to drop you right on the doorstep."

Piloting the plane's direction, Howard turned his head towards Steve behind him while his eyes subconsciously swept over Dio, who was sitting on the other side.

"Stark is the best civilian pilot I've ever seen. He's mad enough to brave this airspace. We're lucky to have him."

Agent Carter looked at Howard in the cab and spoke up in praise.

However, Steve had some reservations about it. After all, at the World Expo, he saw how the flying car that the other party had invented broke down.

Unaware of Steve's inner thoughts, Agent Carter then took out another small device and handed it over, "This is your transponder. Stark made it. Activate it when you're ready, and the signal will lead us straight to you."

"Are you sure this thing works?"

With the device in hand, Steve couldn't help but ask.

"It's been tested more than you, pal."

Piloting the plane carefully, Howard sarcastically replied without looking back.

Raising an eyebrow, Steve was about to say something else when the plane suddenly shook, followed by a massive barrage of bullets and cannon shots aimed at them. Apparently, the Germans noticed Steve's plane.

Faced with the artillery fire, Steve picked up his shield and went to the back door of the plane with no hesitation.

"Get back here! We're taking you all the way in! " Seeing Steve's movements, Agent Carter instantly shouted.

Currently, they were still flying some distance away from where the Hydra base was located.

"It's too dangerous to fly in that far. As soon as I'm clear, you turn this thing around and get the hell out of here! "

"You can't give me orders! "

"The hell I can't! I'm a Captain! "

Answering Agent Carter, Steve pulled down his goggles and jumped down without a second thought.

"Steve!"

Seeing Steve jump down, Agent Carter was too surprised that she didn't have time to do anything. In the next second, she saw another figure jumping from the plane.

...

Front line, not too far from Hydra's base.

The bean-sized raindrops poured down, soaking Steve's clothes through and through.

Lying on the muddy ground, wiping the rain from his face, Steve looked up at the brightly lit Hydra base in the distance. The super soldier's serum gave him a far superior visual acuity. He could clearly see the figures patrolling the base, wearing uniforms and seemingly tirelessly patrolling the perimeter of the base.

The Undead Legion, the most brutal and fearsome of Johann Schmidt's troops.

According to what Agent Carter had told him on the plane, this Hydra Army was one of the main culprits. They were the reason why the battle on the front lines had become so intense and heated. And their tendency to wear masks throughout the day and their ability to brave bullets reminded Steve of the Hydra agent in Brooklyn before.

"It's not too late for you to leave, Dio."

Turning his head and looking at the man behind him, Steve said, "The situation is even worse than you can imagine."

"You have to figure it out, Steve." Faced with Steve's persuasion, Dio rudely replied, "I'm not here to help you. I'm here to prove that even if you're now the so-called Super Soldier, you're still no match for me."

After saying that, before Steve could reply, Dio slowly sneaked towards the base.

"Dio! "

Looking at Dio's departing back, Steve frowned. Without having time to think, he followed behind.

Although Dio wasn't friendly towards him, Steve still felt grateful for what he had done. If he didn't tell him about the 107th, he would probably still be travelling around doing shows on stage without knowing about it.

'Bucky...'

It was only the thought of his best friend, who had most likely met an untimely end, that dimmed Steve's expression for a moment.

"Haah~"

Taking a deep breath and readjusting his mood, Steve looked at the Hydra base not too far away. Whether Bucky had died or not, he couldn't just stand by and watch so many soldiers being left to die in that base. At the thought, Steve subconsciously tightened his grip on the shield he was holding.

Using the supply vehicle, they successfully sneaked into the base. Steve and Dio took advantage of the moment the patrolling soldiers were turning around to duck behind the trucks.

"This is the new weapon Hydra was developing..."

Steve scanned the scene around him warily, noting the armoured tanks with the skull and tentacles emblem printed on one side, and couldn't help but speak up.

Different from what he had seen in the distance before, looking at these armoured tanks at close range, Steve easily noticed their unusual features, "If these things are used on the battlefield, it would be a disaster for our side."

"No, it's not a certainty. Is such a weapon a sign of real power?" Speaking up and interrupting Steve, Dio looked at the hideously shaped armoured battalion in front of him and spoke with excitement, "As long as we can control this power, we'll be invincible."

As he spoke, Dio turned and climbed up on the armoured tank in front of him.

"Dio! What are you going to do?"

Spotting Dio's move, Steve couldn't help but raise his hushed tone.

"Naturally," Looking back at Steve, who froze in place, Dio hooked his lips into an icy smile, "I'm gonna give Schmidt a surprise." With that said, without waiting for Steve to react, Dio rolled over and got inside the tank.

Boom --

Starting up the tank and with a sudden burst, Dio took control of the tank and turned the muzzle, firing a ghostly blue beam straight into the doors of Hydra's base.
