Chapter 252. The Talk (Part 2)

Stark Tower, on the top floor. Erik Selvig was making the final corrections to the Tesseract machine, setting it up.

Stark Tower had its share of disasters, having been damaged by Lord Godless in a previous battle. It was replaced with a New Energy building at Tony's idea, only to be approached by Loki again, intending to use it as a teleportation point to welcome the Chitauri army by opening the portal there.

"How much longer?"

Holding his own scepter, Loki looked at Erik, who was constantly operating things around the Tesseract, and raised an eyebrow in question.

"Soon. I've tinkered heavily with the parameters and as soon as it's activated, the instrument will be able to run on power of the Tesseract, calibrate the position of the portal and then ..."

"Make it faster."

Erik's series of technical terms was ultimately a little too complicated for Loki, an alien specializing in magic. Rather than the process, what he needed was the end result, so interrupting Erik's long-winded speech, he simply ordered.

"I know."

Nodding, Erik's face didn't show the slightest hint of disdain at Loki's rudeness, still looking serious as he replied.

"Nice design, I can sense the enormous power."

Loki nodded and was about to turn around when what sounded like an old voice suddenly rang out from behind him.

Loki's expression changed as he gripped his scepter and turned his head. He could see a figure dressed in black robes and a pale mask appearing above the New Energy Building in a grand and impressive manner.

"Who are you?"

Aiming the scepter in his hand at the odd figure in front of him, Loki was actually far more concerned with how he had appeared here without his knowledge, than with the identity of his opponent.

"You should have heard of me, from the mouth of the SHIELD agent you had under your control earlier."

Faced with Loki's question, the [Sky Emperor] returned without the slightest rise in his tone.

"So you're the Jiu You guy?"

Loki used the power of the Mind Stone in the scepter to obtain a lot of information about SHIELD from Hawkeye, including information about the members of the Avengers and, of course, about Jiu You. Through Hawkeye's account, Loki roughly understood in his heart, that there was an organization and a place called Jiu You and Peng Lai on Earth. However, he didn't expect to meet Jiu You's people under these circumstances.

"Why are you showing up here? Do you intend to stop me, just like the mortals from SHIELD?"

The scepter in his hand started to emit a pale blue glow. Faced with Jiu You's people all of the sudden, Loki's heart wasn't as calm as he appeared to be.

He already knew of Jiu You's power from Hawkeye's words. However, his superiority as a god made him look down on Hawkeye's words with contempt. However, the [Sky Emperor] in front of him forced him to readjust his mindset. Perhaps there was nothing exaggerated about what Hawkeye had said earlier.

With that thought in mind, Loki's fingers tightened their grip on the scepter, and at the same time, began to silently channel the power of its Mind Stone.

Had it been anyone else, under the power of the Mind Stone, they might have been affected already.

However, the [Sky Emperor] standing in front of Loki was only a clone. Ryan, as the main body, was several blocks away from the Stark's New Energy Building, so even though the power of the Mind Stone was formidable, it still couldn't affect [Sky Emperor] in the slightest.

Glancing down at Loki's hands, which continued to emit blue light, he clearly looked like he was giving it his all.

Under the mask, [Sky Emperor] let out a not-so-subtle sneer and continued, "Stop you? Why would I want to stop a plan that's destined to fail? "

"Destined to fail?!"

[Sky Emperor]'s reaction told Loki that the scepter in his hand didn't have any effect on him. Unaware of the situation with the Mind Stone, he gathered up his power, while his face frowned at [Sky Emperor]'s remark.

"Impossible. SHIELD, having their confidence in their organization, suffered greatly under my plans. There's no one left to get in my way! "

With the information Hawkeye had given him, he had managed to attack SHIELD's Helicarrier and take out every possible threat to his plan among them. And now, with the few remaining people in SHILED, no one could stop him.

"I'm not talking about those people from SHILED."

Faced with Loki's convincing answer [Sky Emperor]'s tone did not change in the slightest, "Those few people from SHIELD alone aren't worthy of my attention. The reason why your plan will fail is purely because of Peng Lai."

"Peng Lai?!"

[Sky Emperor]'s words made Loki's already furrowed brow, furrow a little deeper.

The amount of information [Sky Emperor] threw out certainly made Loki apprehensive, but he couldn't stop what he had been working on just because of a guy who appeared out of nowhere.

"I don't care what your intentions are by telling me these things, but I'll show you through the results. Ultimate victory will belong to me." Glancing down at the scepter in his hand, the look on Loki's face that had faltered became determined once more. He turned his head to look at [Sky Emperor] with a refreshed condescending expression, "However, I can give you and the Jiu You behind you, a chance to share in my victory."

"It seems that you still have a lot of confidence."

Inside the antique shop, Ryan looked at Loki, who still looked confident, and couldn't bear to think about what would happen to him next.

"Of course."

Turning his head to look at the Tesseract that Erik was handling, Loki nodded back with a confident look on his face, "So, tell me, what sort of purpose do you, Jiu You, have in mind... and don't tell me you're only here to tell me this out of the goodness of your heart."

"Of course not." Shaking his head, [Sky Emperor] turned to look down at everything in the New Energy Building beneath his feet and replied with a nonchalant tone, "We only have one goal in mind, and that's -- Peng Lai."

"In that case, shouldn't Jiu You cooperate with me? With the power of my army, we can destroy the Peng Lai you speak of."

"Do you think Peng Lai could be destroyed with a single army?" He turned his head to look at Loki. Even with his mask, Loki could detect the disdain from the [Sky Emperor]'s tone. It made him feel annoyed.

However, there was no time for Loki to show his displeasure.

[Sky Emperor] glanced into the distance, and spoke up in a dignified tone, "I hope, when we meet again, you will show me a pleasant surprise. Jiu You might work with you at that time ..."

"Next time, you ..."

Hearing [Sky Emperor]'s words, Loki subconsciously wanted to pursue the matter, but suddenly heard a sudden cheer from Dr. Selvig behind him.

"It's working!"

After looking back at Erik, who looked excited, Loki turned back, only to find that the [Sky Emperor] had disappeared.
