Chapter 298. Mutation (Part2)

"It must be the cosmic storm that fundamentally altered our DNA ..."

During dinner at the restaurant, Susan and Reed noticed something strange in their bodies, causing them to suspect that the previous cosmic storm had affected them to some extent.

"Let's not jump to conclusions. We need a massive amount of evidence before making that leap."

Although he had already experienced the changes in his body, Reed still maintained a rigorous attitude as a scientist and didn't easily draw conclusions, "Maybe all of this is just a delusion caused by eating spoiled food in the restaurant."

"Come on, Reed. Do you really think we're both dreaming this up?"

"I'm just proposing a possibility."

Here, Reed and Susan argued with each other because of their speculations. On the other side, Johnny, wearing a pink jacket on the lower part of his body, snapped his fingers and excitedly interrupted, "Wow, guys! Look!"

Redirecting Reed and Susan's attention, Johnny snapped his fingers, and then a flame appeared on his fingertips.

Controlling the flame to flicker on and off with a snap of his fingers, Johnny exclaimed, "Now picture that, but everywhere! It was EVERYWHERE! How?!"

"..." Susan looked at Reed with a pointed gaze.

"The cosmic storm has fundamentally changed our DNA!"

Johnny's living example finally made Reed agree to everything.

"But this doesn't make sense. What aspect of the cosmic storm could have changed our DNA, and is this change permanent or temporary?"

Although he acknowledged the fact of their mutation, Reed's inner doubts surfaced again.

"Temporary?"

Reed's words caught Johnny, who had been silently enjoying his newfound powers, off guard. He liked his abilities at this moment and didn't want them to disappear.

"I think we need go find Ben."

Sue said with concern, interrupting Reed's speculation.

Since the three of them had all undergone mutations due to the cosmic storm, Ben, who had faced the storm head-on, should theoretically be the same as them.

Thinking of that, the three hurried to Ben's room.

However, the closed door blocked Reed and the others from entering.

"Ben! Ben! It's Reed. Are you okay?!"

Reed repeatedly banged on the door, but there was no response.

This unusual situation immediately made Reed worry.

Before, Ben had already shown signs of discomfort while eating in the restaurant. Now, combined with the mutations of the others, Reed increasingly felt uneasy.

"Sue, do you know the code?"

Reed asked Susan next to him as he knocked on the room door.

"I might."

Susan went to the keypad and began entering a code.

"No, I need some time."

Through the window on the door, Reed noticed that something was off with Ben inside the room. His anxiety quickly turned into worry. Watching Susan struggle with the code, Reed thought about his own powers he had just demonstrated in the restaurant. In a desperate move, he reached his hand through the gap under the door and managed to unlock the door from the inside.

"That's gross..."

Johnny expressed his disgust at Reed's power.

Compared to his flashy flame-controlling ability, Reed's stretching power was not to his taste.

Boom--

Johnny's reaction made Reed a little speechless. He opened his mouth and was about to say something, but the next moment, there was a sudden loud noise coming from inside the room, which startled the three.

Rushing in, they saw a big hole in the wall and a crushed bed frame, indicating that something had happened in there.

"Look, look, look! What is that thing?"

Johnny exclaimed, pointing at the hole in the wall.

The three of them peered through it and saw an orange figure running in the distant forest.

"Is that Ben?"

Reed asked with uncertainty, observing the strange figure.

From sounds in the room earlier, it was clear that he had also undergone some kind of mutation. However, Reed was still unsure about the details of his mutation and why he was running away.

"What's going on? What happened in here?"

A slightly surprised voice suddenly spoke up from behind them. All three of them turned around to see Victor standing in the doorway, looking puzzled.

"Something went wrong, Victor."

Reed explained as he saw Victor, "There's been some kind of reaction to exposure from the cosmic storm."

"Not just Ben, we all have um... different symptoms." Susan immediately added.

"Symptoms?"

Susan's words changed Victor's expression as he recalled the various changes that had occurred in his body over the past few days.

"Symptoms? I don't think this is just symptoms."

Johnny retorted discontentedly upon hearing Susan's explanation. He raised his hand and conjured up a ball of flames, "Now we have extraordinary powers just like the Avengers, maybe we can establish a superhero group like the Avengers? How about 'Marvel Heroes' or 'Justice League'?"

"We don't know if these abilities could cause harm to our bodies."

Reed started pouring cold water on Johnny's daydream, "Before we determine the danger of these abilities, I think we should be cautious. Even better, we should use these abilities sparingly to avoid serious consequences."

"Hey man, you've already a super-human. Why are you still so boring?" Controlling the flames in his hand, Johnny was disappointed with Reed's words.

"Johnny, this is no time to joke around!"

Susan said with a bit of anger, looking at the flames in Johnny's hand, "Put away the flames. Don't you think we already have enough problems?"

"I'm not joking."

Johnny retorted, extinguishing the flames in his hand. Although he was somewhat headstrong and arrogant, he would still listen to his sister's words to some extent.

"If you're right, leaving Ben out there would be dangerous. We should find him as soon as possible."

Turning his gaze away from Johnny's hand, Victor looked at the huge hole in the wall and spoke with feigned concern.

"Maybe he isn't the one in danger."

Looking at the big hole in front of him, Johnny didn't think there was anything unsafe about the guy who could create such a large hole.

"Maybe he just suddenly wanted to get some fresh air. He's gonna come back when he's done, right?"

"No, he's going home."

Reed said, looking at a picture on the ground.
