CHAPTER 3: IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT.

Mrs Carmen and Sandra's mother went to the kitchen to place the box of freshly baked cookies on the counter. While Indigo and Sandra were left alone at the dining table to talk. It was very quiet at the dining table,

"Hey, do you talk?" Sandra asked Indigo, curious to know if he was just playing dumb or he was actually dumb.

"Do you reply?" Indigo said after some while. He had a deep mellow voice. Most times, he sounds dull.

"Oh, so you're not dumb," Sandra said sarcastically.

Indigo sat opposite Sandra, he seemed more weird than introverted, he clenched his fists on the table and brought his head closer to Sandra's face,

"Why did you come here?" He asked her strangely.

"Because I want to be here," Sandra said as she pushed Indigo back to his seat.

The silence continued until Sandra broke it again,

"The school here, how is it?"

"That depends," Indigo replied.

"On what?"

"Whether or not you rate anyone. Personally, I don't rate anyone at school, so school is fire for me." Indigo said.

Sandra admired indigo, he had black curly hair and ash eyes. His fashion sense was dark. He was too tall, for a 17 year old and in a way, weirdly handsome.

"Me too, it's just me and my book against the world," Sandra said with a cheerful smile.

"Seriously, why did you come here?" Indigo was keen on knowing why Sandra and her family moved to Gilmore city.

"I already told you, because I want to be here," Sandra said.

Indigo hit the table and stood up ready to leave,

"Why are you leaving?" Sandra asked.

"10 minutes has passed," Indigo said.

"So?"

"I don't talk for more than that. Bye." He said as she left the dining room.

"Wait!"

Indigo knew sign language, so whenever he feels like not talking, he uses sign language. So he said, what? to Sandra using sign language.

"That's sign language! You know sign language too?" Sandra said with her eyes lit in surprise.

"Listen, Amanda," Indigo said, agitatedly.

"Sandra," She corrected Indigo.

"Sandra, if you're looking for a friend, I'm not gonna be that for you," Indigo said trying to contain his temper.

"Okay," Sandra said as she went to the kitchen to tell her mom that she wanted to go.

"Sandra, darling so soon?" Mrs Carmen asked.

"What's the problem honey." Sandra's mom asked her.

"It's nothing. I just miss my baby brother. I'll go home if you still wanna stay longer. Is that okay with you?" Sandra said.

"I'll meet you at home honey." Sandra's mom said as Sandra left Mrs Carmen's home. Sandra's mom was happy to find a friend that was somewhat in her age group and someone she could relate too.

Sandra got home and she started playing with her baby brother, he was just three years of age.

"Who's the best big sister in the world," She said as she nudges his nose and rubbed it with hers.

Shortly her father came in,

"Someone's excited, and I can tell why." Her father said.

"Where, please show me," Sandra said sarcastically as she and her father had a good laugh.

"So, how was the neighbour's place?" Her father asked.

"It was meh!" Sandra said.

"I bet that boy Indigo wasn't meh!" Her father said trying to imitate her.

"He's synonymous with meh!" Sandra said while her dad laughed.

"Why do you say so?" Her father asked.

"He's worse than me. He says he doesn't speak for more than 10 minutes, plus he uses sign language to communicate when the 10 minutes elapse. Majority of the time, he's always quiet. And he's very weird." Sandra said as she groaned.

"But sweetheart, you too use sign language to communicate. And you don't speak very much as well."

"Okay dad, that is one big lie. I use sign language, but it's only to stop people from communicating with me. It's a survival trait." Sandra said in her defence.

"What if he uses sign language for the same reason that you do it." Her father suggested.

Sandra remained quiet,

"Honey, I'm going to leave you with this saying, Do Unto Others, What you want them to do to you. You don't expect him to talk to you when you don't talk to others." Her father said as he kissed her on the forehead and left for his room.

Sandra pondered upon what her father told her, so she decided to make her move. By the time her mother came back, it was already late. She made sure she announced loudly that she was going to bed,

"You're not gonna have dinner?" Her mom asked her concerned.

"I had a lot of cookies." Sandra lied.

"You didn't even take any." Her mother said.

"I'm full. Thank you, mom. Good night!" She said as she went to her bedroom.

She stuffed her bed with pillows and blankets so that her parents would think she was asleep meanwhile, she was going to Indigo's home. She opened her window and jumped out of it. She ran to indigo's window and whispered his name repeatedly.

Indigo was taking off his shirt, he exercised a lot so he had a masculine body. Sandra wasn't aroused by his body, because she had had enough of boys. She hated boys, but something was different about Indigo.

Indigo could hear whispers of his name, he tried to ignore them but they became more annoying and persistent. He looked outside of his window to see Sandra jumping and whispering his name,

"What the fuck are you doing outside by this time of the night?" Indigo said angered in a lowered tone.

"I know we got off on the wrong foot, and I wanna say-" Indigo cut her short,

"No, you don't wanna say anything! What you wanna do is get inside." Indigo said.

He knew Sandra was not safe outside by that time of the night so he told her to climb the ladder and come into his room. Sandra was reluctant because of her past experience with Timothy.

Sandra kept on talking, Indigo was worried about her safety so he jumped down from his window and carried Sandra back up to his room.

"Let me go!" Sandra said as she pulled herself away from Indigo.

"Are you out of your fucking mind Sandra!" Indigo lashed out at Sandra.

"Why did you do that?!" Sandra asked.

"You can't just come out in the middle of the night. It's not safe!"

"What should I be scared of! Tell me." Sandra yelled.

Indigo did not want to ruin Sandra's stay at Gilmore city so he lied to her instead,

"You're a girl, you could be raped," Indigo said. He had no idea that what he said made Sandra remember her past all over again.

Sandra took her seat on Indigo's bed. She remembered when Timothy saw her bleed but continued to push in faster. Tears rolled down from her eyes, Indigo noticed it,

"You're crying?" Indigo asked her with concern.

Sandra tried to clean her tears,

"I'm not. It's just so sad you know. How girls have to be worried about what they wear, or what time they go out, all in the name of I don't want to get raped." Sandra said as she sniffed.

Indigo hugged Sandra,

"I've never done this before to anyone. So enjoy!" Indigo said as Sandra laughed briefly.

"I should come to your room window more often in the middle of the night," Sandra said.

"You shouldn't, it's not safe," Indigo said.

"I'm kidding," Sandra said trying to brighten up Indigo's mood.

"I better get going now," Sandra said.

"You should stay here. If you're not comfortable, I could sleep on the floor, or in another room." Indigo suggested.

"Okay, what happened to Mr, if you want a friend Sandra I can't be that person," Sandra said trying to imitate Indigo.

"Can we let bygones be bygones? I just care about your safety," Indigo said abruptly.

"Am I in the wrong house? Is this the Home of Indigo?" Sandra said sarcastically.

"Good night Sandra," Indigo said as he laid his floor bed, turned off the lights and went to sleep.

"Indigo," Sandra whispered.

"What?!" Indigo replied.

"I don't sleep with the lights turned off."

"Are you fucking kidding me?"

"I'm serious. Can you turn it back on?" Sandra asked nicely.

"Do you need me on the same bed as you? Cause I hate sleeping with the lights turned on." Indigo said.

"Okay," Sandra said.

Indigo and Sandra slept on the same bed that night,

"Tomorrow as early as 6 am, I want you in your house," Indigo said.

"Good night Indigo," Sandra said as she closed her eyes and slept off.
