CHAPTER 18: THE DIVERSION

AT JACOB'S

The police arrived at the scene to meet blood splattered everywhere. They met a disorganized home, where they were sure a party was being thrown. They looked around for anything they could pick up as a shred of evidence to show that some people must have been killed. "This looks like a warzone." An officer said as he used his legs to scatter the rubbish that was on the floor.

Another of the officer said, "Officer, I found something." Indeed she did. It was the silver long knife that was used to kill Jacob. It had blood all over it so the officer discreetly said to his colleague, "It's either it was werewolf business or a fight broke out between two people. I wanna believe it's the lather." The officer used gloves to pick the knife up and kept it safe. While the others put tape all around the front and back of the house.

...

The next morning, Sandra woke up with a sudden head pain. She went downstairs to give her parents the bad news. "Mom, Dad, my head hurts. I don't think I can go to school today." Her parents didn't buy it. They thought she was lying in order to escape her new guide. "Honey, come on. You're resorting to lying now?" Her mother asked.

"I'm not" she moaned. It was like her head was on fire. Indigo came over to her house, already prepared for school. He looked like he didn't get much sleep last night. "Hey, Micheal!" Indigo said as he jacked him up. "Where's your sister?" He asked him and he pointed the way for Indigo.

"..Mom I swear, I'm not doing it because I'm trying to escape my guide. It's far from that. My head is like a thousand and one people are drumming on it." Sandra said as she wailed. "A thousand and one? Honey, you need to go to a hospital." Her mother said wearing a concerned look.

When Indigo heard what Sandra's mother said, he quickly went over and said to them, "A hospital? Come on Sandra don't overreact." He said. Then he later greeted Sandra's parents. "In, good God! Thank God you're here." Sandra said as she took him by the arms up to her room.

"Sandra you're still going to school!!" Her dad yelled.

Meanwhile, in Sandra's room, Sandra told Indigo to shut the door. Then she said to him almost in tears, "What is happening to me? Why the fuck do I feel like this? And most of all, where was I yesterday?" It was a lot of questions for guilty Indigo to answer. So he said, "Listen to me, and you'll live longer. You won't make silly mistakes that you make. What you need to do is to drink this." He said as he mixed up some concoctions for Sandra to drink.

It smelled horrible but she drank it anyways. "Yuck! What was that?!" She asked disgustedly. Indigo then replied, "It's my mother's concoction. Works like magic." He said as he smiled. "Thank you so much In. You really care for me more than you should." She said as she hugged him.

Sandra decided to go to school. So she left with Indigo and his mum. "Take care of yourself, honey! We love you." Her father and mother said as they watched her leave with Carmen.

...

Gilmore High

It was a gloomy day for most people in the school. Sandra walked in with Indigo and watched how most people weren't looking their best. "What's going on?" Sandra asked Indigo. "Don't ask, just walk," Indigo advised Sandra. Isabelle was talking to one of her friends when she sighted Sandra from afar. "Sandra!" She called out.

Flashes and images of Isabelle from last night appeared in Sandra's head. She couldn't believe that Isabelle was a lesbian. "Sandra, hey how are you?" She asked her. "I'm fine." Sandra briefly replied. Then Indigo said to Isabelle, "Hey, can I talk to you for like 5 minutes?"

Isabelle agreed, and then Indigo took her to a corner and said to her, "Please don't say anything about the party to Sandra. It might trigger her." He pleaded. Isabelle was surprised, "How'd you know I was at the party, you were there too?" She asked. "I saved her, so please, just don't say anything about it. Okay?"

"I promise," Isabelle said. Sandra waited for them to finish talking and when they did, they parted ways. Indigo went to his class while Sandra and Isabelle went to theirs.

In Sandra's class, they were having Spanish. Their teacher was a strict Latina.

"Como estas todos?" Asked the Latina teacher. They were only a few in the class that knew Spanish. Isabelle was one of them. "Bien, gracias." Few of them replied. "So today, we're gonna be having a pop quiz!" She had a thick Columbian accent. Most of the class moaned while Isabelle and a few were ready for it.

Sandra found it hard to concentrate during the lesson with Isabelle sitting next to her. Most of all, she was trying to figure out what happened yesterday. She could remember quite a few things but they weren't placed right. She felt everything was all wrong. She thought to herself that if she could remember what Isabelle did, she could also remember what happened to her last night.

As Mrs Rodriguez shared her paper, Sandra kept on thinking. "You have only 5 minutes to complete this quiz. Once 5 minutes is over, I collect the paper. Esta bien?" Mrs Rodriguez asked. They all nodded including Sandra because she saw everyone nodding.

"Start now!" She said and everyone started writing. Isabelle found the questions super easy that she finished within 2 minutes. When she was done, she watched Sandra. She wasn't writing, instead, she was scribbling. She looked like she was lost again. Mrs Rodriguez went around to examine everyone's work, she got lazy so she went to have her seat.

Isabelle used that opportunity to tap Sandra so that they could exchange papers. It was not as though Sandra didn't know Spanish, in fact, she was fluent in it and Isabelle was aware. Isabelle just didn't know why she didn't write anything. They had successfully exchanged papers unnoticed. The 5 minutes was over and it was time for Mrs Rodriguez to collect her papers. To exchange their papers back was now difficult because Sandra's name was written on the header, and so were hers.

Sandra panicked, even Isabelle as well. But she remembered that she was a witch and a little diversion spell wouldn't hurt. Under her breath, she said, "aperta." Which means to open. Suddenly, all the paper Mrs Rodriguez had accumulated in her drawer began to gush out like a rushing tap with no control. The students began to laugh, as well as Isabelle. She then exchanged their papers successfully when the confused Mrs Rodriguez went to attend to her drawer.

"How did this happen?!" She cried out. She knew it wasn't normal. "Class dismissed. Leave your pop quizzes on my desk and get out! I have to use all day to organize my drawer!" Mrs Rodriguez wailed. They did as she said and left her to be.
