Chapter 3: Clinic part 1

One year later....

Jared, now 4 years old, standing at 3 ft 6 inches (42 inches) weighing 36 lbs (16.32 kgs) for his age he's pretty tall than any other kids of the same age.

"Daddy can you teach me how to play basketball?" Jared asked his Dad.

"About time son, follow me" Dad said. "Honey we're just at the backyard okay?!" Dad shouted to Mom.

"Okay, enjoy! ... will be right with you in jiffy" Mom shouted.

Dad went to the garage and brought out a rectangular fiber glass with folded metals around it, Dad put the fiber glass on vertical way, standing on it's own, then pushed a button behind it, he heard multiple clicks then the metals unfold, in a couple of seconds the Basketball hoop is now standing in their backyard.

"In Basketball you need to learn 5 basic skills, Dribbling, Passing, Shooting, Rebounding and Defending, To start with, in order to move around the court you need to know how to dribble" Dad said. Dad handed Jared a Ball and Dad picked up another one.

Jared is already familiar with how the game is being played from his Old world, although he doesn't have a proper trainer to learn from. "This is gonna be great" he thought to himself.

"In dribbling the Basketball, you don't wanna.." Dad slapped the ball downward creating a loud noise "you don't wanna do that, what you wanna do is.." Dad flicked his right wrist downward, extended his right arm and released the ball, he bounced the ball twice and held it up again.

Jared observed and copied the move his Dad performed, then he tried it, *bounce *bounce he dribbled exactly as his Dad did.

The next few minutes, Dad instructed Jared to do 10 dribbles on each hand, after that he showed Jared different types of dribbling.

"You can also .." Dad dribbled the ball from his right hand going to the left, doing a crossover.

"Or.." Dad added. he bounced the ball again, this time from the left hand to the right, performing a between the legs.

"And also ..." he bounced the ball from his right hand to the left behind his back, doing a behind the back dribble.

Meanwhile in Jared's mind, as he watched his Dad dribbled the ball, he's already memorizing and absorbing everything in just a split seconds.

To make sure that Jared learn, they practiced every move together performing 10 repetitions per move.

"You can also vary your dribbles, you can..." Dad performed a One-handed crossover, using his right hand, moving his hands in a circular motion bouncing the ball in a V-shape "Then .." as the ball went back on his right hand, he flickes his hands and turned it into a two-handed crossover. Jared was dazzled by the move.

They practiced the move again. Dad noticed that Jared is now becoming much comfortable with dribbling he let him practiced the moves again on his own, each attempt noticed that his movements are getting more refined, no wasted movements, small calculated transitions.

"How good can he get when he grow up?" Dad asked himself.

"Honey!! commissioner Isaacs is on the phone! ... " Mom shouted as she call for dad holding a mobile phone.

"Be right back buddy ... just practice the dribble as i thought you, okay" Dad said. As he hurried to get the phone. Dad stood there as he talked to Commisioner Isaacs. Then Mom approached Jared.

"Are you having fun sweetie?" Mom asked.

In Jared's mind, in a split second, he's running multiple simulations of dribble moves then he snapped out it. He turned to his Mom

"Yes!" he answered "Mom check this out" he added in enthusiastic tone ... Jared stood back.

He dribbled, *bam *bam ... *bambambam .. *bam bam. He did a between the legs to right, switches his feet, between the legs to the left, as the ball went back to his left hand, he did a a crossover to the right, then transitioned to the left. All this in perfect rythm and finesse.

His Mom looked in surprise, he didn't stopped there, he went faster this time, between the legs, behind the back, double crossover ...

Meanwhile his Dad watches his son perform Dozens of dribble combos, speechless. As he watch his son he felt shivers run down his spine, he already taught kids how to play basketball before but he haven't seen anything like it.

"He's a natural" Dad said unaware that he still speaking to Dr. Isaacs.

"What?" Dr. Isaacs asked in a confused tone.

"Oh!! I'm sorry Dr Isaacs ... can i call you back?" Dad asked.

"Alright, just finished the manual by Monday" Dr. Isaacs said, the line went dead.

Dad put down the phone on the outdoor table.

"Oh my God, that's amazing!!! Good job sweetie!!" Mom remarked as she cuddles her son.

"Mom!! ... im so sweaty, plus im not a kid anymore!" Jared complained, trying to get away from his Mom.

"Yes you are!" Mom blushed and giggled.

"Wow, pretty moves back there son, shall we?" Dad asked.

"Let's go!" Jared said.

"Honey, don't tire Jared too much okay, there's a towel and water here for both of you" Mom said as she walked back inside the house.

"Okay" Both said in unison.

They both run some dribble drills, they go back and forth while doing dribble combinations, Jared ran left and right avoiding the plastic cones his Dad put.

After a few drills, Dad sat down for a bit. Jared kept practicing, now confident with his dribbling skills, he wanted to run a drill on his own to try a combo. Dad drank a bottle and watched his son.

Jared just stood there for a moment, he held the ball on his right hand and threw it upward, his body is still relaxed, the ball hit the ground and went back up, as it does, Jared moved with blinding speed and cought the ball with his left then transitioned it to a between the legs to the right on a one swift motion, as he bounced the ball to his right he turned it into a behind the back dribble, All this happened in quick succession with explosive speed.

Jared zooms to the end of the backyard doing series of dribble combinations. Dad saw his son, bobbed and weaved, spin and dash. In perfect form, no wasted movements, calculated and precise, his moves emits a shivering aura that intimidates any bystanders. He cannot believe his eyes.

"What the fuck was that?" Dad said to himself, "He's supposes to be able to do that yet, his body is still young. Is this what it feels to be in the presence of a genius?" Dad asked himself.

After Jared is done, he sat beside his Dad in exhaustion.

Dad wiped Jared's sweat, on his face, neck, his silver hair, his back and his arms, then Dad handed him a bottñed water, Jared then took a sip, panting.

"How was it Dad?" Jared asked his Dad asking for feedback.

"You did good son, those moves are pretty sweet ... but remember, you always keep in mind your stamina when you dribble, performing a series of dribble combinations for a long time will tire you out quickly, so you should use those moves wisely okay? choose the right moments and the right defender" Dad remarked.

"Understood"Jared replied. From his old world, there's a reason why NBA players doesn't use much flashy moves during the game. First is for efficiency, as his Dad said using a series of moves in quick sucession for a long period of time can tire you out quickly, if that happens, then you won't last in the entirety of the game. Second, if you used too much moves, it makes you a target for defenders and if you stayed too long dribbling, defenders will close in on you and it will limit your options, it makes you predictable, it runs down the clock, and you piss off your teammates.

"I need to run simulations on which move is effective on certain situations" Jared thought to himself, thanks to his IQ, he can perform multi tasking. With his brain power, he can run a thousand simulations on his head as he can split his attention all while doing multiple tasks simultaneously.

"Peeeeeep!!" Dad blew the whistle "Let's go! onto the next one" Dad shouted as he claps his hand. "What we'll practice now is passing"

Basketball has 4 types of passing, Chest pass, Bounce pass, Overhead pass and Behind the back pass.

For chest pass you can either throw a pass to a teammate with one hand and with two hands to create more power hence longer distance, the important thing for chest passes is accuracy, from the name itself "Chest pass" in doing so what you want to do is when you pass your teammate always receives it around the chest area so that when they catch it in rythm, their transition to shooting, making a pass or dribbling is much more fluid.

For Bounce pass, bounce pass is frequently used when your on-ball defender has their hands high and you still need to make a pass. The bounce pass to a teammate regularly occurs when making a post-entry pass or a pass from the post back out to a teammate if the post player is double teamed.

An Overhead pass is used in basketball elevate the ball so the pass is more easily seen. The Overhead Pass provides a different angle for the ball to travel and so is ideal in situations like passing over defenders, skip passing, or passing into the post. Although, the risk of it is it gives defenders time to intercept the ball, so you need to pickbthe right timing and ideal situation for the pass.

Lastly, the Behind the back, this is when you wrap the ball around your back to make a pass, It is used to avoid the defender when making a pass across if passing in front of you would be risky. It can also be used to throw the ball to a player trailing on the fast break. It's a much more advanced move, so timing, awareness and skill is important to utilize this move.

"You got to remember, when it comes to passing, if you're gonna pass to a moving teammate always pass to a place where your teammate is going to be and not where your teammates was, always think ahead, make decisions 2 steps ahead, and also, always make the smart passes" Dad added.

"That's gonna be a piece of cake" Jared cockily thought to himself.

Dad discussed all the information to Jared in way that he can understand it and at the same time guiding Jared through demonstrations. After the lesson, they both ran some passing drills to integrate the knowledge. Unsurprisingly, Jared mastered the moves in just a couple of attempts. After the drills, they took a breather, then they started the next lesson.

As usual, Dad discussed to Jared the types of scoring, he discussed about the layup, the jumpshot, free throw, hook shot, floater and the slam dunk, Dad performed some demonstrations and he let Jared do some drills, but what caught Jared's attention is Dad's attention to detail when it comes with the Jump shot shooting mechanics.

"Jumpshot is one of your main weapons when it comes to scoring, especially if you have a small body, You can do it near the basket, you can do it from midrange, the 3 point line, from halfourt and even from the other side of the court, You can do Jumpshot anywhere because the other shot forms are liimited." Dad said.

Jared is in complete agreement with his Dad's topic, as he recalls the kind of basketball that players played on his old world relies on junpshot at the time, He recalls Stephen Curry lighting it up from anywhere, Damian Lillard shooting from downtown, Kevin Durant's deadly jumpshot. Assumig that i this wor's basketball jumpshots are gonna be a necessity in the game especially the 3 points.

"Now, for you to be a good shooter you need to have a good shooting habits, you always have to practice, the "BEEF method" Dad said.

"Beef as in the Dinner?" Jared curiously asked.

"Right, like the dinner buddy, cuz if you swish the bucket, you get money to your pocket, beef for everyone!" **wink His Dad jokingly said.

Jared cringed.

Mom came out of the house, "Oh my God" Mom remarked while laughing as she heard Dad's corny ass joke.

B is for balance, "You just tilt both your legs slightly to the left since you're right handed, this way your shoulders don't have much pressure for the release, if you have a wrong form it will strain your shoulder which will eventually restricts your accuracy and stamina, after that always put both your heels up" Dad said while placing Jared's foot and legs in form.

"From the moment you shoot, since your heels are up, your foot will act as spring to launch you upward when you jump for the shot, this way you can jump so many times during the game without taking much from your body and energy" Dad instructed, Jared nodded.

E is for the elbow "you need to have your arms and elbow aligned with your right leg and the hoop" "this would allow you to have control over your accuracy okay" Dad said, "Okay" Jared acknowledged.

E is for the eyes "in connection with your arms and elbow, as you bend your arms for the shot , always place the ball near your forehead" Dad guided Jared's arms. "It would allow you to see, through your eyes, if your arms are aligned and straight to the hoop, remember "a straight shot is an accurate shot" Dad added.

And finally, F is for Follow through "When you hold the ball on top to prepare for the shot, always rest the ball on your finger tips and leave a space between the ball and your palm, this way when you released it, your fingertips creates a follow through on the ball making the ball rotate in the air" Dad said, meanwhile Jared is meticolously checking if he has space between his palm and the ball.

Mom giggled, as Jared appeared adorable doing so.

"This way when it hits the side of the ball it gets a friendly roll" Dad added.

Jared attempted a shot, missed, Dad get the ball and passed it to Jared in perfect tempo. As Jared received it, he noticed that he felt good, a perfectly delivered right through his hands, all he needs to do si release the shot.

Jared followed the BEEF and released the shot.

SWISHHH

"Yayyyyy!!! Mom cheered.

"Great shot!" Dad remarked. "You feel that ... there's a rythm to it, remember what i thought you earlier about passing, if you receive it on your chest area, shooting the ball will be easier, You'll feel it when you receive it." Dad said.

"Yeah i felt it, it felt good on my hands, is that what you call in rythm?" Jared asked.

Dad answered "Yes, that's correct ... now that you experienced it, i want you to remember the feeling and keep it in mind whenever you're passing to a teammate okay?" Dad asked. Dad held up his fist, suggesting a fist bump, Jared imitated his Dad. "Yes, got it" Jared answered.

They ran shooting drills, where it involves shooting from different spots from the hoop, Jared once again impresses his parents as he swished the ball, one shot after another.

Thanks to his Dad's perfect passes, Jared feels unstoppable when shooting, in Jared's perspective, with his powerful mind he can see lines that guide him as to where the ball will land, his mind then calibrates the exact power and exact angle the ball needs, then calculate his position from the hoop in order for the ball to hit the target in perfect precision.

Dad has been observing Jared's form, even though he's still heaving to release the shoot due to his young body, he noticed consistency on his form, no wasted actions in order to compensate for his body. "This kid ... he will be scary in the future" His Dad remarked.

After the shooting drill is done, in the end Jared shot 13/20, that's 65% shot percentage. Which is astonishing. That's beyond average.

"Let's take a break for now" Dad said.

"Come here sweeetie!! ... You're dripping in sweat let me wipe it off for you" Mom calls for Jared holding a towel, Jared went to mom then he tend to Dad.

"Oh thank honey" Dad respectfully declined.

Mom handed water bottles to both, they both thanked Mom.

"So what do you think?" Dad asked Mom.

"Well I can see our son is enjoying it and he seems pretty good!" Mom commented with pride on her voice.

"He's performing extraordinary feats, on his first day he tried it, he's not just good, he is a monster, Now, I don't know if this is gonna be our son's passion as time goes by, but if it is honey. We're raising a monster that will soon take the Basketball world by storm and im not kidding" Dad commented.

"Really?" Jared exclaimed with lights on his eyes, smiling. Of course he knows he's a reincarnated Genius afterall.

"Yes sweetie, so do your best always okay?" Mom said to Jared.

"Well as long he's enjoying it then I'm all for it" Mom replied and continued "I just hope that he doesn't turn into one of those kids that became conceited after a taste of fame" she turned to Jared, "You won't be like that will you sweetie?" Mom asked Jared.

"Of course Mom, i know im dead when that happens haha" Jared laughed, Dad also laughed as he heard his son.

"Yeah and i will kill you myself" Mom said as she playfully pinches Jared.

"I'm actually thinking of getting him a proper coach, you know ... to nurture his interest" Dad said. "I was thinking Jensen"

"Do you think he's gonna be available?" Mom asked. "What about Spencer? ... the one who coached Layla's kid?" Mom suggested

"I don't think so ... it's the summer league right now so..." Dad paused and continued "I'll just check with Dr. Isaacs on Wednesday"

"Oh shoot i forgot that you've already changed your shift..." Mom exclaimed.

"Why?" Dad asked.

"I was actually planning for us to go out on Wednesday and look for a school where we can enroll Jared, since the start of the school will be a month from now, then maybe we eat out or go to the movies right after" Mom suggested.

"Oh sorry honey I can't on wednesday" Dad said in a sad tone.

"No, it's okay ... i'll just bring Jared with me, to look around for schools, i wanted him to see check it out with me in case a school might piqued his interests" Mom explained.

"That's great, let's move the eat out and movies on Saturday? i wanted to take him out as well." Dad suggested.

"Sounds like a plan" Mom remarked.

"Mom can we look for a school where i can play on a basketball team? Jared asked his Mom.

"Sure sweetie, we'll check on wednesday okay?"Mom replied.

"Alright" Jared said. "Dad can we start the next lesson?" Jared asked.

The couple laughed and giggled.

"Haha okay Mr. Hotshot ... sorry i was distracted by a cute Lady" Dad winked at Mom smiling. Mom blushed and giggled in return. Mom threw a towel at Dad's face. "Go! get out of my sight haha!" Mom is blushing.
