Camp Delta

Daniels POV

Daniels walked towards headquarters and entered the door, he was greeted by a few people walking in. Two staff sergeants started to approach him upon entry, Mikels and O'reilly, it should be mentioned Staff sergeant is the highest rank on the base.

They were both short men about 5 '5, Mikels had shaved brown hair with brown eyes, he was about 40 years old. O'reilly was a shaved blonde man also around 40, with blue eyes. Both of them were in uniform as they walked up and I saluted them. Mikels then said,

"At Ease Daniels."

"Yes sir!"

"How was your patrol of the town?" O'reilly asked with interest.

"It was quiet sir." Daniels responded. "But me and my team came across a civilian who has lived on his own for eight years, we have brought him to the base feeling his skills could be useful."

"Good eye Sergeant! We will process him later. We will also debrief you as well later on after the matter of the civilian is settled." Mikels praised me. Daniels felt warm at the praise these two men gave him, he really looked up to them.

"For right now go to the quarters management to get him a bunk and barracks so he can clean himself up." O'reilly said.

"Yes Sir!"

"Dismissed." Mikels then said. Daniels saluted and went on his way to the headquarters management. He takes off past the desk to the right into an office area and walks over to Jenkins, a cute 5 '3 blonde haired woman, she is 31. she has a petite build but man she could knock you on your ass faster than you could "hey." Dnaiels and her have hooked up a few times in the past but nothing serious. He strolled up and cleared my throat to catch her attention.

"Ahem."

"Daniels you're back!" She flashed a cute smile at him.

"Yes and I have to get a new civilian, a bunk and barracks." He said, giving her a stern look.

"Oh, you're no fun when you're working! Lighten up a bit, you know, you could swing by my tent tonight." She whispered seductively.

"Oh I just might," Daniels said, giving her a smile.

"That's settled! Let me check the files of unoccupied bunks real quick." She bent over in her desk to rummage through her file cabinet. After about a minute she pulls a form out.

"Okay so Barracks J, bunk four, name?" She asked at the end.

"Zane." Daniels told her.

"Last name?" She asked.

"Uh not sure." Daniels said.

"Age?" She asked, seeming a little frustrated.

"Not known." He told her.

"Birthdate?" She inquired.

"Not a clue." He told her without a clue.

"Come on, you didn't even ask? Why do you have to make my work so hard for me?" She said with pouty face directly pointed at him.

"I was more shocked by the fact he lived 8 years on his own." He responded.

"Damn!" She said very impressed.

"Yeah."

"Well Bring him in later and I will fill out the rest of this form." She stated.

"Alright I will. What barracks and bunk number again?"

"Barracks J, bunk four."

She handed Daniels a key, presumably to give to Zane.

"Right, thanks, see you later." I said slyly

"I'm hoping for it." She smiled again, damn that smile was gorgeous. Daniels turns around and he proceeds to exit the office area. He walks down the hallway and gets to the main foyer and leaves out the doors.

Zane's POV

It took about an half hour but Daniels came back and dismissed Richards. He then turned to address Zane.

"Alright so your destination is barracks J, bunk four. There should be a pillow and blanket there but if not check the closet near the bathroom. I'll walk you there."

"Alright, I'm probably gonna take a shower and do some laundry. Been eight years since I did either of those. I've bathed in lakes where I could, but no showers and no laundry. I'm excited to be honest!" Zane spoke quickly and excitedly.

"I bet you are." Daniels said this with a big bright smile.

Zane and Daniels moved past the headquarters into the tented area in silence. They got past the tents and suddenly it hit Zane that he didn't know the camp's name. So he asked Daniels as we moved towards the barracks:

"What's the name of this outpost?" He asked curiously

"It's Camp Delta." He answered.

They reached the barracks area and they looked like college dorms. Daniels told Zane there were two soldiers in a dorm room who would be roommates. They walked past a few barracks and eventually came to barracks J.

"Here we are! Barracks J, your room is number four, bunk four. I don't think you have a roommate at the moment, so the room and shower should be all yours."

Zane pondered this in excitement, wondering how it would feel to sleep in a bed again. Daniels handed him a key, this was most likely the key to the door of the dorm. It looked like a house key but had the number four engraved on it, he looked at it very excitedly. He couldn't wait for a shower and to clean my clothes. He looked at the dorm; it was a three story building.

"Just wait, the shower can come later, Zane I'm going to bring some PT clothes so you don't have to walk around naked in the dorm alright?"

"Alright I will wait." Zane responded

"Okay i'm going to get those clothes now I will be back in a few, it's just at HQ. Go on in and make yourself comfortable."

Zane walked through the door to the dorm. There was a hallway upon entry and at the end there was a common room with some chairs and couches. The walls were concrete blocks with white paint on them. There was a tv with a Playstation hooked up to it with some games on a shelving unit as well as movies.

To the left of this common room was a laundry room with a washer and dryer in it. To the right was a kitchen room with a stove and a fridge, there were cupboards and a sink in the center of it. Some dishes hung in a rack on the counter near the sink. To Zane's right were stairs possibly leading to the rooms.

He headed to the stairs and went up them, when he made it to the top and looked around, there were doors on the right and left and the hallway had clean floors. Zane looks at the door number closest to him on the right. Door number one. He made my way down the hallway to door four. He stands in front of door four and takes a deep breath and inserts the key into the lock. Opening the door he looked around.

Inside was an open area, there was a window and two beds, one on the left side of the room and the other on the right. Both had a blanket and a pillow, there was a stand with an alarm clock at the foot of each bed. To the back of the room there was a bathroom with a shower and a toilet. Zane took his backpack off and set it near the bed on the left side assuming it was bunk four. Then he sat on the bed and waited for Daniels to deliver the PT clothes.

Zane waited almost five minutes and then he heard a knock at the door. He jumped up and went to answer it. Opening the door he saw Daniels was there with a set of clothes in plastic wrapping.

"Got your clothes. Now you can take that shower you have been dreaming about."

"Alright I will definitely enjoy that shower thank you very much." He handed Zane the clothes and he shut the door.

Zane heads into the bathroom and sets the PT clothes on the toilet seat. He began to undress, taking all the dirty clothes off, starting with his thin trench coat, sword, dagger and firearm. He put these on the counter next to the sink. Then he pulled my shirt, his shoes, his pants and underwear off his body. Turning on the tap to the shower he makes it warm, pulls the shower curtain and steps inside it. Ahh, the bliss of it, he thought to himself, the shower was amazing.

The water cascaded down onto his head and it felt wonderful. He hadn't experienced this in almost eight years. It was serene and peaceful. After about thirty minutes Zane turned the tap off and got out of the shower. There was a towel underneath the sink which he used to dry himself off.

Zane eagerly put on the PT clothes, which were gray pants and a white shirt, as well as sword dagger and holster back on. He was determined to do my laundry next so he exited the room with his dirty clothes, locked the door and put the key in his pocket .

Zane turns and walks down the hallway to the stairs. He hit the bottom of the stairs and almost ran into someone. Startled at first, he dropped his clothes and threw a fist at the man's face. The man dodged and took a step back.

"Whoa buddy, easy!" The man exclaims.

Zane snaps back to reality, realizing where he is and lowers his fists. He steadies his breathing and apologized:

"I'm sorry, I'm still in my survival mode. I just got here, my name is Zane."

The man, who Zane now looked at clearly was about 5 '9, a bit taller than him, had shaved blonde sandy hair, a muscular build, and large hands. He had camouflage pants and a camouflage shirt on with sunglasses so he couldn't see his eyes and he seemed to relax a bit.

"Easy man, my name is Talons. I just got here two months ago. It was a bit surreal at first, eh?" He said this very slowly.

"Yeah it's a little overwhelming to think I can sleep in a bed again."

"You betcha! They will either train you up or set you up on patrols soon.." He spoke with an accent that could be placed as Canadian.

"Yea I hope I can contribute enough to help out but I should be fine when it comes to that." Zane was starting to calm down.

"Well I will leave you be and be on my way, see ya around guy." He spoke cheerily and went on his way.

Zane picked his clothes up and went to the laundry room. He loaded my clothes into the washer and noticed there was no detergent. Whatever, clean is clean, he told himself. Zane set the cycle, then went to sit on the couches in the common area while he waited. Soldiers came and went as he waited the forty-five minutes, some waved others didn't, they seemed preoccupied as they went to and from. The washer dinged, then he got up to transfer his clothes into the dryer. As he finished Daniels came into the barracks.

"Heya there you are!." He seemed happy to see me.

"Yeah, just about to finish the laundry. What's up?"

"You're going on patrol tomorrow morning. At 22:00, be ready." He stated.

"So soon?" Zane was very surprised.

"Yeah it's just a city patrol so you should be fine. Been no sign of Pales lately."

"What is 22:00?" Zane asked.

"Standard military time. It's about ten o'clock." Daniels told him.

Alright imma be up and ready by ten." Zane responded.

"Alright cool see ya then. Oh yeah, the mess is six to eight, be there early to get food." He told Zane.

"Alright, I will be there." Zane replied.

Zane went and sat on the couch til the dryer dinged, after that he grabbed his clothes and headed back to his room. Zane set his clothes neatly folded at the foot of the bed to change into in the morning, set the alarm for seven, after that he set his weapons on the nightstand and the sword standing up against it. From there he got into bed and fell asleep almost instantly as his head hit the pillow.
