"Oh, what a stressful day!" Jake laid down his back on the swivel chair, the one once used by Hans. He had to attend an old lady today, whose sister was possessed by some car ran-over drunkard's ghost who was stalking her for a few days. It was a real pain in the ass.
He got up and went to the fridge to get some cold soda. Then he came back to the couch and was about to sit down. But something fell from his pocket, the amulets. All of them were scattered on the floor.
"Oh, crap!" he started to collect them from the floor, then suddenly his foot fell on an amulet and it snapped.
"What was that?" Bill asked.
Jake took up the broken amulet, "Uh…I think it is the one of Karut."
"Oh, shit!"
"Why? What'll happen?"
"Run!" Bill urged him to run. Though he wasn't feeling the necessity but he still ran towards the door which suddenly closed like hit by some wind. It immediately got locked automatically.
He looked at the window and they closed too.
"We're too late," Bill said in a low voice.
A humming sound started in the room, the lights started blinking. Jake asked, "Who is it?"
A pained voice spoke, "Freedom! At last!"
"Who are you?" Jake asked.
"I'm…Karut!" the voice spoke, "The devourer!"
"Were you trapped in that amulet?" Jake asked.
"Yes…for an eternity!" he answered, "By some petty…old…exorcist, because of a simple mistake!"
"Oh, you're talking about Hans…" Jake figured out, "He DOES catch you by a surprise."
"You speak, as if you knew him," he said again, "You KNOW him, don't you?"
"Well, I did…" Jake answered, "He's dead, you see…"
"Oh, so…the only thorn in my way, is…removed," he seemed pleased, "Now, my voyage for conquering this earth…begins. Let me give you the death…you longed for."
"Bill, what's he talking about?" he asked, he was actually scared this time.
"I'm sorry, Jake…but I'm going to leave right now" Bill's voice faded.
"Bill!" his voice shook, "Bill! Don't abandon me man…not when I need you the most!" but Bill didn't answer.
He remembered Ying's warning about Bill, that he will abandon him in great danger. Suddenly, a clawed hand came out of the dark and grabbed his shoulder.
