Lying to yourself hurts more
We sat in his car in complete silence, parked in front of my house. We got here ten minutes ago but none of us said a word since we got here. Well, I didn't know what to say or what words to use. What we did was…I leaned in the seat while running my hands through my hair, sighing in frustration.
Why is this so complicated?! Why can't my mind process it? Why deny it? Because you're still hurt and can't forgive him even though you want to.
We were in a deep mess.
"Alexa..." Max started to say but I cut him off. "You know what? We better not talk about this, okay?" I shook my head, taking my hands out of my hair. "Let's just pretend that this night never happened." I said before opening the door, running to my house.
"Alexandra! How long are you going to pretend?" Max kept yelling my name, but I ignored him and tried to unlock the door with my shaky hands. "You feel it, I know you know." He was about to reach me when I opened the door, closing it quickly behind me. Right in front of his face. My heart ached and I grabbed my chest as a loud sob escaped my throat. I breathed out through the tears, my chest moving up and down.
I exhaled and inhaled deeply, my eyes pressing close. I breathed out and pressed my lips together as I sniffed, wiping my tears away before rushing towards the stairs.
I walked past my parents' bedroom and stopped, doubting if I should talk to my mom about it or not. I decided against it and made my way towards my room, closing the door as I headed towards my bed.
I groaned, grabbing my phone and gasped. It was filled with missed calls from Jaden and my brothers and a few messages from both Zoe and Chloe.
Fuck! Just what I needed. This totally sucks!
My phone started to vibrate, and I bit my lips nervously as I looked down at the phone number.... Jaden. "Hello." I whispered slowly, trying to sound like I was woken up. "Where the hell are you?" Jaden's angry voice replied.
"I'm at my house." I whispered again. "I looked for you everywhere! Even your brothers are looking for you. Why are you at your house? Who brought you?" Oh snap! My brothers are going to kill me.
"I wasn't feeling well, and I couldn't find you or the girls in the club, so I called a cab and went home. Sorry." I lied smoothly and I felt so bad lying to him like that. "You scared me to death. I thought something bad happened to you."
If only you knew. I smiled at the thought.
Stop it. I growled at myself. "I'm tired, can we talk tomorrow?!" I spoke with a soft sigh, "Fine. See you tomorrow." He said before hanging up, not really convinced with my cover up story.
I groaned, throwing the covers over my head, tomorrow is going to be a chaos. Great!
The nonstop knocking on my door made me woke up from my very short sleep. Groaning in frustration and from the lack of sleep, I turned over and buried my face in the pillow. That's what happens when you drink on a school night.
"Open up Alexandra. I know you're awake. You're in so much trouble sister. Come on! Open the door before I do it myself on the hard way." Anderson yelled from the other side of the door. "Go away!" I grunted loudly, covering my body with my sheets. "I have a bone to pick up with you. So, open the door now or I'll break it!" He threatened, shaking my door handle. "Anderson! Leave your sister alone now." My mother said angrily.
"Mom! How can you defend her like that? She just disappeared last night without saying a word!" My bother replied furiously. "She was here at home all along." My mother lied smoothly. He grunted before I heard footsteps walking away from my door. "Alexa honey? Are you going to school today?"
I groaned and got out of the bed. "You guys already woke me up so." I rolled my eyes in a matter of fact as I dragged my body towards the bathroom
This is going to be a hell of a day. Trust me.
I knocked on the door before walking inside of the classroom. The teacher turned to look at me as I gave her my late pass, talking a seat in the front. Did I forget to mention that I was in the same class as Max? Well, I was, and it was hard for me to concentrate with him being here.
Not when the images flashing before my eyes were of the two of us in some steamy positions, wrapped around the sheets as we did the dirty deed.
Chemistry was boring, I wasn't even paying attention. "Miss Armstrong, are you even listening?" I snapped out of my la-la-land state, the students staring at me. "You come in late and now you're absent in class? If you're not interested, you can leave."
"Maybe I should." I mocked irritated out of nowhere, the teacher's eyes bulging at that, not expecting me to say that. I sighed deeply as I stood up, grabbing my bag and walked out of the classroom. I know I was being rude, but I didn't care.
I was in a bad mood.
I walked out of the school building and walked towards the big tree in the schoolyard, sitting under it. I took my headphones out of my bag and put it on my ears, plugging it in my phone. I was scrolling down my music playlist when someone interrupted me. "What are you doing outside?" Jaden asked, sitting down next to me.
"I didn't feel like staying in chemistry class today." I answered him, taking my headphones off. "And why is that?" He asked me with curiosity. "I just didn't want to be in chemistry class." I shrugged my shoulders as I put my headphone back on.
He took the hint that I wanted to be left alone and got up before sighing. "What's wrong with you? What happened last night that you're so cold today?" He said as he took my headphones off.
I stood up angrily, trying to get my headphones back. "It doesn't concern you so please give me my headphones back." I ushered him with my fingers as I glared at him. "Who are you and what did you do with Alexandra because this chick isn't her." He growled at me as I huffed, glaring at him.
"This chick is me. I've always been this girl and you don't even know me." I snapped at him. "You're right. I don't know you but the short period of time I got to spend with you was enough to get to know you and you aren't like this." Jaden hissed at me.
"You don't know me. You don't know what I've been through my whole life. You don't know my pain so don't you dare say you know me because you don't." I growled at him loudly before grabbing my headphones out of his hand.
I picked up my bag and glared at him before walking back inside of the school building. I wasn't in the mood today and they were pissing me off. I walked into my art class and sat next to Chloe. She was wearing a high waist short with a crop top, sweater and her sneakers, her hair was in a messy bun and her ray bans were on her head. "Hey there." I greeted her while sitting next to her.
"Hey. Where did you go last night?" She asked me curiously. "I'll talk to you later." I hurriedly said when the teacher came in. "Good morning class." The art teacher said, putting her things on her desk. "Today we're go..." The door burst open, and Max walked in with Lucy trailing behind him, I really want to know what her role is?
I guess his lap dogs didn't have this class with him. The teacher sighed and mentioned him to take a seat. He was wearing a white body shirt with black jeans hanging loose on his waist. Lucy was wearing a skirt that barely covered her ass with a black lace bits spaghetti strap crop top.
"Okay class, now that everyone is here, we're going to paint today." The teacher said in front of the class. "It can be whatever you want but it has to be something educative Drew." The class laughed and Drew smirked. "It's not my fault that I consider boobs as an art miss."
"That's enough Drew, sit back now." The teacher scold Drew before continuing with her lesson. Drew high fived with his friends and sat back down. "You can only use three types of color, so use them wisely. I'll be right back." The teacher walked out, and the students began to talk over random things.
I turned to Chloe. "Are you going to tell me where you went last night?" I sighed, running my fingers through my hair. "I got sick and went home." I lied at her smoothly, feeling guilty as ever.
I feel bad lying to my best friend, but it was for the best. "Oh, that's sad, so you and Jaden. I feel bad for him somehow; when you left without saying anything he was worried. He's a great guy."
"Yeah." I shrugged my shoulders. "He isn't my type, and I would be lying if I say that I feel something for him." She looked at me for a moment before shaking her head. "Who knew Alexandra Armstrong had a type of guy." She joked, bumping our shoulders together.
I laughed at her comment, shaking my head. "I didn't know idiots were your type." I shot back at her, making her glare at me. "Ha! Look how I'm laughing." She mockingly said before grinning at me cheekily.
I shook my head at her, chuckling. "I love you, Chloe. But you're spending too much time with my brother that you're starting to act like him." She gasped falsely, scowling at me. "I love you too but if you don't shut your mouth, I'm going to kill you." She smiled innocently.
"You won't. I'm too cute." I winked at her, grinning like a fool. "You wish." Chloe yelled loudly and I clapped my hands on her mouth while everyone turned to look at us. I shot them a glare, making them turn around quickly, minding their own business.
"Miss Armstrong in my office now." A loud voice crackled out of the speakers and went still after. Chloe and I both looked at each other at the same time and I groaned loudly. "What did I do now?"
"You skipped chemistry class." She looked at me with knowing eyes and I stuck my tongue at her before getting out of my seat. "Good luck." Chloe yelled as I walked towards the door. "I'm going to need it." I called out as I got out of the classroom, dragging my feet to the principal's office.
I opened the door and walked inside; the register lady gave me a warm smile as I took a seat in the waiting room. She picked up the phone and pressed a button, telling the principle on the other side of the phone that I was here.
She hanged up and looked at me. "You can go in dear." She smiled at me as she stood on her feet, walking over to the door with Mr. Austin printed on it in black lettering. She opened the door and let me in. "What is he doing here?"
I demanded the moment I saw Max sitting in one of the chairs in front of Mr. Austin's desk. "I thought you said Miss Armstrong not Mister Arden." I added as I grabbed the back of the chair, pulling it far away from Max as I could.
My plan to avoid him wasn't going too well. It's like destiny insists on putting us together over and over again. "Alexandra. Max is here because of something involving you two." Mr. Austin said dead serious and professional right now. "Do you know what I'm talking about?" His eyes locked with mine.
I held my gaze too without turning away. "No, I don't know." I said sincerely, "I'm not an idiot Alexandra. So, talk now or you're going to be suspended." He banged his fist on the desk, making me jump back slightly.
"I don't know what you're talking about." Max stood up angrily. "Come on Jake. I don't have all the time in the world. So, speak." He barked out with a growl at the end.
"You might be my Alpha Max but in this school I rule." Max grabbed him by his collar and brought him over the desk. "Don't test me, Jake. Remember who gave you this position. I can take it away from you in a second. So, watch your mouth."
"Let go of him Max, now!" Max pushed him over the desk, making him fall backwards on his chair. I gasped loudly when Max grabbed him again by his collar and hit him straight in his nose, breaking it. "Stop it Max! Was it even necessary?" I pulled him away from Jake and then pushed him back.
Jake got up, touching his bleeding nose in pain, my hand resting on his heaving chest. "I hope I made it clear who is in charge here Jake." Max turned around without caring about Jake's nose. He looked at me for a minute then walked out of the office, closing the door hard behind him. I snapped out of it and went after him. His wolf was in control and I'm sure he'll do something stupid.
Why do you care? A voice taunted me in the back of my mind.
