Lydia approached Frenado nervously, her smile faltering in the face of his unfathomable rage.
"Um..."
He cut her off with his booming voice, "My darling!"
Startled, she could only manage an "uh?" in response.
"My darling," Frenado repeated, "You have taught me valuable life lessons."
"I have?"
"Yes!"
"Okay?" Lydia rubbed her neck sheepishly, unsure why he suddenly shifted to a more formal tone after talking about revenge.
"Thank you for your persistence and for showing me that being a father and having a son is better than anything else in this world." He smiled faintly, and her heart stirred by his words, until he dropped the bombshell.
"But I can't marry someone like you."
"Eh!" Lydia nearly screamed in disbelief.
Frenado smiled. "Of course."
"W-what...?"
