Kate was confused about what to do or say.
Again she was going to be used as a sacrificial lamb, Again she was going to sacrifice herself for her sister..... For her family, though she loved Julian their marriage won't be because of love, he would never see her as anything else other than a substitute.
"Never say never, Kate Bai." Her subconscious mind whispered to her.
Kate groaned, her parents were still waiting for her to say something. There was nothing to think about. This is what will happen and she couldn't do anything about it.
"Okay." She mumbled.
Abigail Bai glared at her and sighed. "Be happy that you get to marry president Wang even as a substitute bride, you're not worth it." She said.
Kate wasn't hurt by the pure contempt in her mother's voice, she was used to it. If strangers stay with them for a day they would surely think she was a maid in her own father's house.
Only a wicked mistress will treat a maid like her family treated her.
It wasn't worth talking about because she knew that she wouldn't win.
"Go to your room and start packing your bags, we will do the necessary changes of engagements." Her father told her and she nodded before standing up from the couch where she was sitting down and walking out of the living room.
A day that was supposed to be normal for her has turned into her wedding day.
She couldn't bring herself to think about how Julian would feel when he sees her on the altar instead of Elena.
Would he be disgusted? Angry?
Kate shook her head and mumbled under her breath. She should stop thinking about the worst and focus on what is going on.
First, she has to pack her most important properties because she doesn't have much and wouldn't want to take clothes that she wasn't wearing anymore to Julian's house.
Again realization started dawning on her. In the next two hours, she would become Kate Wang instead of Kate Bai. A lot of things would change about her and that scared her a lot. She wasn't prepared for this. She wasn't ready to get married again, it wasn't in her syllabus and now here she is.
Going to be the great Julian Wang's wife, she couldn't begin to think of what her life will turn out to be like in the next twenty-four hours.
She walked inside her room and closed the door behind her then walked inside her closet, she grabbed her big bag and started throwing her dresses inside. Who knows if there would be a specific dress for her to wear. who knows if she would be allowed to wear any of her dresses.
During those times when she walked in on Elena and her friends talking about Julian, Elena said that Julian's house was huge and he has about five maids, a cook, and a Butler, she would practically become a mistress after her marriage to Julian. She should be scared.
After throwing her beautiful dresses inside her big bag, she packed up her shoes both high heels and sandals she zipped her bag and went inside her bathroom to take her bath.
The traditional wedding would start in less than two hours and she could hear the noises around the house, the preparation has started and the more the time keeps going faster the more nervous she becomes.
"I can do this, I can do this. You are in love with this man for almost two decades Kate Bai, of course, you can do it." She reprimanded herself.
* * * *
The time changed Kate was ready to go out there and meet her soon-to-be husband she tried not to focus on the negativity about what was about to happen she tried to think about positive stuff and not think about how and what led to the marriage.
"Are you ready? it is time, everybody is here ready, he's here and his family too, don't mess this up, Kate. Don't even think of messing this up because if you mess it up you miss every other thing including yourself so think before you act?" Her mother said to her. Kate turned to stare at a mother angrily, she had always been respectful to this woman but every time the words that comes out of her mouth directly to Kate were so disgusting and demeaning, she had tried to understand that her favorite child was Elena but it kept getting worse and it just couldn't continue like this, she had to do something to stop it.
"You know what mother? to be honest with you I don't care about what you think, I don't care if you rot in hell, mother. I'm doing this for myself. yes, I'm doing this for myself and not for you and I won't let you talk to me like that again for your information, I'm going to marry Julian and because of that you have to respect me, put respect on my name, in less than 10 minutes now I will become Kate Wang and you know what will happen when Julian finds out how you talk to me? even if he doesn't like me he would still want you to respect his wife, you know what he will do when he finds out he's going to destroy your life so now I'm telling you to try and keep your mouth shut mother." Kate said and started walking out of the room.
Abigail Bai was stunned at the way her little daughter talk to her, she has always known Kate to be a timid girl but for her to be so outspoken and even threaten her was beyond her she couldn't believe what she just witnessed and that put a fierce hatred into her.
"Just wait and see, Kate Bai. Your misfortunes just begin." she said and smirked wickedly.

Julian stood at the end of the aisle waiting for Kate Bai to make an entrance inside the church, the traditional rites were concluded 30 minutes ago.... the longest 30 minutes of his life.
If he could he would have just ditched everything and gone back home but he couldn't, his image was in line, everybody.... most of his business partners even the public knew that he would be getting married today, media outlets already carried the news. He couldn't just leave.
Suddenly the church entrance door was pulled opened, revealing Kate Bai and her father. Julian turned his head as she walks down the aisle with her eyes on the ground. she couldn't look up, she couldn't look at the people inside the church. he guessed maybe she was shy or maybe she doesn't agree to the marriage because who would want to be a substitute for their sister? just not possible.
He stood where he was, not bothering to walk towards them.
She spoiled everything for him.
