A Surprise Party

"I'm throwing a party this Friday." Billie suddenly speaks up from the couch.

"What?"

I was by the kitchen counter doing my assignment.

"It's Ian's birthday this Friday. I want to throw him a surprise party." She says again.

"Here?" I ask and look around.

"Yeah." She sits up and turns to me.

I look around. "But isn't it like, too small?"

"I'm not inviting many people."

I drop my pen. "Like how many?"

"Thirty max."

"And minimum?"

"Twenty."

"Babe, not even 10 people can fit in here conveniently."

She looks around. "You're right."

I don't want a bunch of horny and drunk people around my apartment.

She takes her phone and dials a number, putting it on speaker.

"What?" He says in a grumpy tone.

"Well someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today."

"What is it Billie?" He ignored her comment.

"I need your house."

"My house?"

She nods. "Yeah. I want to throw a party for my boyfriend. It's his birthday this Friday."

"So?"

"I need your apartment to throw a surprise party for him."

"Why can't you use your place?" He asks and I hear some ruffling in the background.

"It's too small. Your place is like, three times bigger than my place."

What?

"Shut it."

"Okay, two times bigger. But the point is your place is more useful than mine because it's spacious."

"No." He says without hesitation.

"That was fast." She states. "Just do me this favor okay?"

"I have no need to."

Yup. That's the jerk side coming out.

"He's not my boyfriend, I've never met him before and I don't even like him."

But you've never met him before.

"But you've never met him before." Billie repeats my thoughts.

"Exactly. More reason why I don't like him."

"Oh stop being a jerk Christian." I state. "It's not as if she's asking for your car."

"It's just as precious." He said and I rolled my eyes.

"You can be there to make sure nothing happens. You're automatically invited." Billie quickly says.

"And be like a chaperone for you children? No thank you. I rather spend my Friday night doing something else."

"I could be a chaperone instead." I interject. "I'd be watching over your precious apartment for you."

"And how am I sure you're not the one who will be doing the damage instead?"

"Of course I'll break a few things. Especially if it's your stuff. I mean, it's my specialty." I say proudly. "But for Billie, I can keep myself in check."

"Aww. The love is real." He says dryly and I roll my eyes once again. "But I don't trust you enough yet."

"Jerk." I muttered.

"I heard that." He says.

"I'd set up a date for you with her." Billie said suddenly and it immediately piqued my interest.

"What?" It seemed it also piqued Christian's interest.

"Who?" I ask her.

"You know who." Billie says. "The girl you've been bugging me about."

"Not up to a month yet and you're already chasing girls?" I ask him. "Tsk tsk."

"That's my specialty." He says proudly. "But what makes you think she'll agree?"

"Trust me on this. I know her more than anyone else."

"Hmm. I like where this is going."

I shake my head and turn back to my assignment, putting my earbuds on. This is obviously not my conversation.

I was engrossed in my assignment that I didn't know when Billie had ended her call and stood in front of me.

"What?" I ask her and remove an earbud from my ear.

"He agreed."

"Not without a bribe." I state.

"He's very cheap actually. Just give him a few girl's numbers and you can get anything you want."

"Tsk tsk." So who's the girl?" I ask her.

"Just a friend. I'm not sure you know her."

"Someone in your major?" I ask her.

"Something like that." She says. "So I'll need help with setting up and stuff."

"It's not like I have a choice."

"You're the best." She smiles. "Oh and before I forget, you doing anything tonight?"

"Tonight?"

She nods. "Yeah."

"No. After I'm done, I was thinking of crashing in."

"Want to watch a movie together?"

"Sure."

"Not indoors. I mean at the theater."

"Outside?"

She nods. "Yup."

"Sure then."

"Great." She smiles and walks to her room.

Not more than ten minutes, she walked back outside all dressed.

"Are we going now? It's just 4pm."

"Oh no. I just want to reach somewhere quick. We'll meet up there."

"Okay."

She walks to the door. "Not later than eight okay? The movie is eight thirty."

"Yes ma'am!" I shout behind her.

"Love you!" She shouts and shuts the door, leaving me alone at home.

Great. Now I have mentally prepare to go out.

Such fun.
