"You are coming with me?" I ask Abby in disbelief as she trailed after me, I was almost running to meet Erin back at the hospital.
I find Abby rolling her eyes.
"You said you found something scandalous, you can't expect me to sit still after that."
I can't help but quirk a brow in her direction.
"Not because you are desperate to see Erin?" I tease.
She blushes beet red.
"No, because you begged to be my friend and i thought I would give it a try."
I laugh, but the thought if having a female friend made me excited. That shows just desperate I may be.
"Listen. You can't tell Erin about us."
"About our new found friendship? I don't think I can keep that from him, he is bound to see us together."
"Not that, the fact that he is my mate. He should know about it when he is of age. There's no need to speed up the process."
I can hear the sadness in her voice, I want to tell her I understood, and mine was worse, but I can't, nobody has to know. Besides, if all goes well, the human goes away and Rufus's son and i can try to be each other's mates.
"Brace yourself. It will be hard not to run straight into his arms." I tell her as we reach the front of the hospital.
She scoffs.
"I know that better than you."
I felt the familiar tug I have gotten so used to that I missed the warm feeling that came with it. I could perceive his scent if I focus hard enough, but doing that will make me want to hug him. So I focus on different smells, distracting my nose from him.
We climb the stairs together in silence, she was probably trying to hold herself back from jumping on Erin, while I focused on the smell of disinfectant coming from the hospital.
"Finally." Erin sighed as soon as he sees me.
"I was worried about you. Why did you not call or text me?" he peered into my eyes in worry.
Abby let out a low growl, but that does not even take his eyes off me. And I could not exactly push him off, this was how we were to each other.
"I'm fine. I got here as soon as I could."
"Did you find anything helpful?"
"Kind of. The human. How is he?"
He was about to answer before his eyes finally land on Abby, realizing we were not alone, he frowned.
"Who is This?" he nods in her direction.
"Don't be rude. She is my new friend. Abby Harrington, our pack ambassador."
"So that's why you didn't call or text me, you were out making friends." He said drily.
I chuckle while side stepping him, there were still guards present in front of his hospital room so I know he had not run away.
"He is exactly as you said he was." Erin whispered as he fell in step with me.
My eyes widen.
"He talked to you?" I whisper back.
"See him and let's talk somewhere more private." He said while eying Abby.
He will so regret doing that in a few months.
I say nothing and walk into the room. His scent hit me with full force. A groan slipped through my lips in frustration. The doctor was in the room so I could not do anything.
He bowed to me.
"Can you give us a moment Doctor?" Erin asked.
The doctor bowed once more before walking out of the room. I rush to his side the second I hear the door slam shut.
I could feel the rejuvenation that Grace felt. I almost touch him, almost.
"Open your eyes." I say as airily as I could.
Recognizing my voice his eyes fly open.
"What took you so long?" he whined as he sat up.
"Why? You missed me or something?"
"Yes, yes I missed you so much."
It felt as if someone had sucked all of the air out of the room. I could not breathe. There was this loud thumping sound, I realize it must be my heart. He somehow rattled my heart by saying he missed me.
"Don't play like that." Erin warned him.
He only laughed.
"What the hell is going on?" I hear Abby ask in disbelief.
I turn around in shock.
"Why are you still here?" I ask her back.
Erin stared wide eyed at her.
"Wait a minute. I thought he was in a coma. No, I knew he was in a coma."
"Abby, calm down. Someone might hear you."
"Why did you follow her in here?" Erin asked her.
"I.. Nobody told me not to follow." She defended weakly. Her face flaming again.
"You sure know how to pick your friends M." Erin sighed at me.
I give him a deadpan look. He is my friend and he was talking like nobody's business.
"Can someone explain what is going on?" Abby managed not to look offended by Erin's statement.
"Oh hey cutie. I will tell you what is going on, if you first give me your number." The human winked at her with a cheeky smile.
I almost punch him. Erin held me just in time, I settle for a heated glare instead.
"Let's talk outside. There are too many ears here." Erin suggests.
"Lay back down and do a fucking good job of pretending you're in a coma or I'll put you in one." I threaten before pushing my way out to the room.
I didn't realize I was heading to a fast food joint until the greasy smell hit me. My stomach grumbled. I didn't realize it but I was hungry, I haven't had a bite in a while.
I don't have any cash on me, so today I was going to use my Alpha card. Take that Erin.
I ordered a lot of food, hopefully food could close the emptiness that i was feeling.
"Did you even pay for that?" Erin asked me.
"Obviously not." I say.
He sighs and goes to pay for it himself.
"Does he always do that?" Abby questions as she plops opposite me, her eyes trained on Erin's tall frame.
"You mean does he always rain on my parade? Yes, all the time. I can't even use my Alpha card in bloody peace." I rant as I take a bite of the last piece of chicken.
"Wish that was me he was taking care of so tenderly."
"Your turn will be here soon. Just a few months left."
I say as I down the cold soda, pushing down the feeling of despair. My own mate won't be calling me cutie in this life or the next.
"I need to look over these pictures before the council meeting tomorrow." I announce.
Work always distracts me from the human.
Erin plops down beside me, I watch Abby's face fall. I guess she sat there in hopes that he sits with her. She needs to understand that Erin was not a people person. And for now, she was just a 'people' to him, like I was a kidnapper to my mate.
"Screw work. I'm getting drunk tonight!"
