Falling In Love At First Sight?

Auntie Jane had lived in this town for most of her life, where she married and established a business, where she took care of her grandchildren, and watched her grandchildren get married and started their career. What she had experienced in her life were unimaginable for many young people nowadays. Sometimes, when chatting with the younger generation at the dinner table, she jokingly called herself a grandmother who rode the wind and waves, and no difficulty could stop her.

But she never thought after riding the wind and waves for more than 70 years, she was once stumped by the covid 19 epidemic.

Looking at the almost empty food reservation, Auntie Jane felt a little headache.

She knew they were running out food a couple of days ago. She thought about shopping in two days. However, she never expected a blockage of the community came before her shopping. She didn't know how to use a mobile phone to order food like others did. What was worse, her children were also like her, not familiar with modern technologic ways.

She had always been strong and self-reliant in her life, so she was unwilling to trouble her grandchildren to help her get food. Considering that there was still a bag of flour, she decide to make bread and noodles. They would not starve to death.

"Jane, when are we going to visit my parents?"

Auntie Jane turned around when she heard it, and saw her husband talking to a big yellow cat sitting on a high place, which made her feel worse for a while.

"Jeff, I'm here, who do you call Jane?"

Her husband had stayed in the wheelchair since he accidentally suffered a stroke more than ten years ago. In order to take care of him, Auntie Jane rarely went out since then. In the past few years, the old man started to have symptoms of Alzheimer's. He often say some words that was contradictory to what he said before, and he often forgot who she was.

The children proposed that settle the old man in a nursing home, but they were all scolded by her. She was still alive and in good health, there was no reason for her to let other people to take care of her husband.

"Oh, Jane, why are your hair all white?" Uncle Jeff squinted at his wife confused.

Auntie Jane did not want to respond to him. She went to the refrigerator to out some frozen hairtails thawed them, thinking about make fried hairtails for supper.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang.

Who was this at this time?

Auntie Jane wiped her hands and hurried to open the door. She was a little stunned when she saw Ava standing at the door.

"Grandma, I will order a lot of food online and have them delivered to the community. So we don't have to go downstairs in the next few days to avoid cross infection. Do you want something? I'll buy them along." Ava said and prepare to record with a pen and a small notebook.

Ava's appearance was just in time!

Auntie Jane was so surprised: "I need two bags of rice and two bags of flour."

"Okay, do you want anything else? Do you have enough oil and vegetables?" Ava asked.

Auntie Jane was a little hesitant. The oil and meat were enough, but the vegetables were really in shortage. She planted some tomatoes and loofah on her patio, but they wouldn't be enough for fourteen days.

"Yes enough. Rice and flour are fine." In the end, she didn't ask for more so not to trouble Ava too much.

"Okay," Ava put away the notebook, "I'll put them at your door you when they arrive."

Ava returned home. She took off the mask at the entrance, and then went to the washing room to wash her hands.

She looked around the living room but didn't find Blake. She looked at the terrace outside and saw he was smoking again there.

"Do... do you need something to buy?" she asked.

Blake was leaning on the railing, counting the vehicles passing by on the road below. He turned back when he heard Ava, and breathed out the smoke: "Buy some chicken, duck, and fish, they last long when frozen. Buy some storable vegetables, like potatoes, onions, carrots, etc. It seems that there is not much oil left, buy some. And buy whatever else you want to eat."

Ava nodded: "Okay."

The conversation was over, but Ava had no intention of leaving. Seeing that she seemed to have something to say, Blake raised her eyebrows and asked, "Is there anything else?"

Ava said, "Is there anything you want to have? I'll buy it for you."

Blake had not heard these words for at least ten years. The last time he was asked of this question, it was probably his father.

He suddenly laughed a little: "No..." After a pause, he stared at the short cigarette in his hand that was about to burn to the end, and changed his words, "Could you please buy me two packs of cigarettes?"

Ava's eyes flashed with joy, she thought she would be rejected by Blake.

"Okay!" She responded loudly, and with a jumping pace, she turned around and went back into the room.

Frank: "That's ridiculous. 'Because of sending a classmate home, I was blocked in her community for 16 days.' This could be made a hot drama story on the internet"

Blake: "Compared to being trapped in an empty house and a parking lot, this is nothing to me."

Frank: "That's true. But it's surprising you would send a female classmate home... Isn't this female classmate your first love?"

Frank and Blake were alumni of the same university. They knew each other because they participated in the same interest group. Unlike Blake, Frank returned to P city as soon as he graduated from university, and was engaged in business communication and public relations.

After Blake returned at the end of last year, he found him as soon as possible, said that he planned to start a business, and asked him if he was interested. At that time, Frank was not very happy in the last company. They hit it off, and he came to work with Blake.

Frank had known Blake for so many years. He had never met anyone who was more self-disciplined and hardworking than him. Sometimes he even wondered if Blake was a robot, otherwise it would be hard to explain his perfect self-discipline and strong sober to temptation.

When Frank was abroad, he did many favors to the girls who like Blake, to hand their phone numbers to Blake. But as far as he knew, Blake had never called any of those numbers.

Frank was really curious once and asked why Blake didn't call those hot and beautiful girls. It would be any loss. In the end, Blake said that the girls did not seem the same type of person as him at first sight, there would be no result.

"Falling in love bro, do you know about falling in love?" Frank simply convinced him, "Don't think so much, just enjoy the process of love, hand over the rest to time and fate. Maybe after you get to know a girl, you will feel she is very fascinating and is exactly what you want. "

"I will know if the girl is what I want from the beginning we meet." Blake said.

"You still believe in love at first sight, that's old-fashioned. Wake up, there are seldom cases of falling in love at first sight. You are too picky! "

Blake smiled and said, "You can think it picky or old-fashioned. I prefer to call it 'quality before quantity'."

Afterwards, he explained that romantic relation was not the most important thing in his life. He could live fine both with it and without it. At that moment, his academic study was most important for him.

Later, after Blake graduated, he was still single. Frank tried to introduce some girls to him, but Blake said that career became most important for him.

Anyway, from Blake's point of view, only birth, getting old, sickness and death were big things. Romantic relation was not on his important list.

To be honest, with this perfunctory attitude towards romantic relations, Frank felt that it would be a miracle that Blake could find a girl who met his standards. So he was very curious what kind of a female classmate could push Blake to send her home. After all, Blake was absolutely a ruthless single man in his eyes.

"Just a very ordinary classmate. Her apartment was just on my way to home." Blake tapped the keyboard and typed a line of words.

Just like Ava didn't explain her relationship with Blake to Mr. Henry for reason of trouble, Blake subconsciously chose to downplay the truth to Frank as well because he didn't want to talk too much.

"Oh." Frank didn't give up, "You are already blocked with her anyway, why not try to contact her more. Maybe romance could be inspired."

Blake didn't want to continue this topic, and his tone was firm: "Impossible."

After sending the revised blueprint to the Frank, Blake ended the conversation and closed the laptop.

He stretched his body and saw Ava wearing a mask, looking like she was about to go out. He asked, "Where are you going?"

"The ordered food has arrived. I'm going to fetch them downstairs." Ava said while changing her shoes.

Blake stood up: "I'll go."

"Then let's go downstairs together. There are quite a lot, you can't take them all by yourself." Ava said as she twisted the door handle.

Blake took out a new mask and put on his face. When he heard the words, his brows wrinkled: "If I even can't take it by myself, then you must can't take it by yourself. Why didn't you call me to go with you just now?"

Why she wouldn't say a single word when she needed help?

"Because, I see you were busy." Ava stepped out of the way, "I don't want to disturb you."

"You..." Blake wanted to say something, but only saw that Ava had become a Slimes again. He swallowed his words back, "You... don't have to concern so much next time."

They went downstairs and saw eight plastic bags there. Blake was a little dumbfounded.

"You bought so many?" Ava's refrigerator was of moderate size with two doors, that could only store half of these food.

"I also bought some for Grandma Jane, who lives next to us." Ava said and opened the bags to check if the food were exactly what she had ordered.

After checking, she lifted four bags from the ground in one breath.

She was petite and tender, and these four bags weighed almost 30 pounds. When she went upstairs, her footsteps were crooked.

Blake was carrying the rest four bags after her and looked at her in great worry. He quickly walked a few steps to her side, and without a word, snatched two bags from her hand.

"I take these two bags; you can just take the other two."

Before Ava raised her objections, Blake took the six surprisingly heavy bags and ran to the front.

When Ava was about to reach the stairs, she found Blake was waiting for her with six plastic bags piled under his feet.

Ava: "Is it heavy? Why don't you give me one?"

Just as she was about to bend over, Blake quickly picked up the six bags again.

"We are already here, don't hand over again." He looked impatient.

After finally bringing the big pile of supplies home, Ava squatted in the living room to separate out what belonged to Aunt Jane and what to them, while Blake went to the balcony for smoking a cigarette and get fresh air.

Lighting the cigarette, Blake took it to his lips and took a deep breath. He peered inside the living room to make sure that Ava wasn't paying attention to him, then he let go of his strength and let his hands tremble on the railing.

Glancing at the deep and purple marks on his palms, Blake shook hands and sneered at himself while leaning on the railing.

He even pretended to be strong and fine. He knew that he should not always laugh at others, he need introspect as well.
