Chapter 4

Back to the present.

More tears flowed down from Evie's eyes as she remembered all her unaccomplished dreams.

Were her parents really serious now? Are they trying to pull her legs?

She could not seem to wrap her head around the events lately.

Without wasting much time, she drove to a nearby bar.

She ordered a strong alcoholic drink. She felt her head spin yet she did not stop taking it. She had zero tolerance for alcohol but she was drinking one and a strong one at that matter.

Hot tears kept on flowing from her eyes as she drank the alcoholic drink. She was oblivious of the men staring at her.

"This is the girl I saw at Richard's house," the man with ocean blue eyes said.

"Really? She is beautiful I must commend," the man beside him added with a chuckle.

"I never knew she is that cheap, she is a cheap slut," the man that had ocean blue eyes said as he shrugged.

Even if the world says bad things against her right now, Evie did not give a damn.

F*ck all of them to hell! Fuck her parents! Fuck her future husband whom she would be married to, more like sold off to.

Evie chuckled at herself, she had always dreamt of falling in love, marrying the guy of her dreams and giving birth to lovely kids but all that has gone down to drain.

Why did she get her hope high about her parents not marrying her off?

When she was growing up she learnt that rich parents marry their daughters off to wealthy men just to make more money but she had strongly believed that her parents were not in that league.

She had been so stupid thinking her parents would not marry her off.

Was it not the same parents who were too busy to shower her love and take care of her? they were too busy making money that would be enough for ten generations yet they still are not satisfied, it has now come to the point where they sell her off.

What is a wonderful set of parents she has ~ note the heavy sarcasm.

Her eyelids were becoming heavy for her and she could not stand anymore. She fell to the floor thanks to her knees which were already weak and wobbling.

How would she get home if she pass out? Would she still even call that place home? She hissed.

She finally lost consciousness and darkness consumed her.

The next time she opened her eyes, she found herself lying on something soft, she looked around and found out it was her room.

How was that possible? She was sure she did not come home.

"Do you want to kill yourself?" A voice asked, and she quickly turned her head in the direction of the voice.

Her mother was leaning at the door frame, with a glass of hot tea in her hands.

Sonia made her way to Evie who was lying helplessly on the bed, staring at her like a moron.

"Take darling," Sonia offered her but Evie remained silent, staring at her mother.

She wanted to tell her mother that she did not need the tea but she could not reject it, if anything, her body needed it.

Sighing, she collected it from her mother and sipped it.

"Evie, I had already explained everything to you, I am sorry but this is the only option for us," Sonia explained.

"Only option my foot!" Evie snorted but Sonia did not utter a word.

Fire can never quench the fire, so she had to follow her daughter carefully, she had to trade with caution.

"Evie, right now, you have to understand that this is your responsibility as the heiress of our company, you can not run away from it," Sonia stated.

"What about my dreams mom? Even my happiness?" Evie was almost on the verge of crying.

"You would find happiness in your marriage and even achieve your dreams," Sonia replied causing Evie to shake her head in disbelief.

"Did your parents marry you off like this?" Evie found herself asking and it seemed like her question made Sonia stiffen.

Sonia's gaze hardened at Evie's question, her expression was neutral.

"Yes," came her short reply. Evie opened her mouth to say something but no word came out.

Shock, no! Utter disbelief filled Evie, did she hear her mom well? Was she hearing double? Or was her ear malfunctioning?

Her parents were in an arranged marriage! Her mother was married to her father not because of love but because of more money and wealth.

Now she seemed to understand everything, women in their rich world were items for acquiring more wealth and riches.

"See, you would be happy with your future husband just the way I am happy with your dad," Sonia took that as an opportunity to make her daughter agree to the marriage but Evie's statement shocked her.

"Just because it worked out between you and dad does not mean it would work out between everyone, I do not even know this guy in question."

"Give it a try Evie, try to make the marriage work and before I forget you have a date with Ezekiel at Highway Restaurant," her mother stated before winking at her and departing.

Evie let out her frustrations in form of verbal words and littering her room.

Why was her life like this? Why can't she live a normal life like every other girl out there? Why was she born into this kind of family? Why did God choose her out of everybody to be in this kind of family?

'Calm down Evie, everything would be alright, she reassured herself but she knew that it was a total lie, everything would never be alright.

She picked up her phone and searched for Ezekiel on the internet.

'Was she doing any crime getting to know more about her future husband?' She let out a sarcastic laugh.

'The heir to the Owens corporation, a rich handsome young man. Six feet tall. A Canadian. Rumoured to be gay, and even the devil's son.'

The last one piqued her interest, she clicked on the link and was shocked at what she saw

'Ezekiel Owens has never been seen with a woman except for his mother and people say he is gay. He is as ruthless, wicked and manipulative as the devil. He does not care about anyone other than himself.'

Evie laughed~ a sarcastic one, not only was she been married off, she is been married off to a gay and a devil's son. Would her life get any better?
