"Mom! What is taking so long!?" yelled Jade.
"Well, I have to help your little brothers get dressed and find some decent clothes to wear. Are you really going to wear that on your first day in college? You look like a gothic person." groaned mom.
"I am a gothic, mom. How many times do I have to defend myself to you? I don't care what you think or what others think of me." argued Jade.
Her mother just rolled her eyes and headed toward the front door followed by Maverick and Johnathan (her twin little brothers.) Ava is the youngest she is fifteen and going on twenty.
"Rick, give me back my phone!" screamed John.
"Maverick and Johnathan Blackwell if you don't stop fighting I will ground you both." yelled mom.
They both groaned and stopped fighting. That made Jade smile knowing how much she will miss seeing these two fight like two-year-olds. She wasn't excited to be away from her mom since she's been so used to being around her most of her life. Then she thought again that going away for college might be a good thing. She'll be able to make new friends and maybe even find a boyfriend.
John grabbed the phone out of Rick's hand accidentally hitting Jade in the face.
"Did you just see that! Now I am going to get a bruise. Mom just told you to stop fighting. You gave me a black eye. I am not going to miss this at all. Act your age! You're sixteen, not six." yelled Jade in annoyance.
They looked at her with sadness on their faces. The sad looks they gave her made her heartache. So she gave them a smile and told them that she was just joking and that the bruise might make her look cooler. That made her little brothers smile. She will miss her sister the most.
She looked out the window and saw a black SUV was following them. The windows were tinted so she couldn't see who was driving, but she recalled seeing that same SUV outside their house this morning.
"Everyone doesn't get alarmed but there is a black SUV following us. It was outside our house this morning. So instead of taking me straight to campus let's take a detour past the police station. Hopefully, that would scare them off if not we'll have to find out what they want so it doesn't get ugly." whispered Jade.
Panic flashed on her family's faces. Since her father died she has been the protector and "man" of the house. She knew it would be hard for the boys to live without her around. Without her there they will have to man up and protect the family. Then she decided not to worry about that and focus on the matter at hand. How do get away or find out what these people want? It won't be easy but she knew if anyone would find a way to do it that it would be her.
They drove past the police station and still the SUV was on their tail. Jade went through her bag and got out her gun. The same one her father gave her on Christmas when she was eight. She can legally carry a gun since she is twenty-one. She took a few years off to take care of her family since her father died in the line of duty. Then she realized that she was sidetracking herself and needed to focus on the black SUV. When her mom saw the guns her eyes went wide. They shared a look of understanding. Her brothers didn't freak out at the sight of the guns, but instead got excited and started to act like idiots. She looks at a magazine and lightly hits her brothers in the face to get their attention. Pointing to the SUV is all it took to get the boys to behave.
"Mom slow down enough so I can get out. Don't stop just continue driving and don't look back. When I am done I'll call you and tell you that we're safe. No arguing just listen to me." demanded Jade.
Her mom did as she was told. Jade jumped out of the moving vehicle landing on her feet and turned to the SUV guns pointed at them. She demanded that they stop the SUV which they did. A gun in each hand she smiled a wicked grin on her face.
"Now tell me why are you following my family?" asked Jade gun pointed at the driver's head.
"Could you not point those at my face? You look a little trigger happy." said the driver calmly.
Jade laughed which made them freak out since she was acting like a psycho.
"Don't worry your little brain about it. If you answer my questions you'll be alive to live another day, but if you stall and don't answer me. I will gladly shoot you in the knee caps, shoulders, and so on until you answer me. Nod if you understand me. If you don't nod I might just shoot you anyway." said Jade with a wicked grin.
