She was in a cafe looking at the happy couple for an hour. She couldn't help herself but to get envious of their love. How god can be so cruel to her by blessing others a serene life with their partners but to curse her by snatching the only person whom she loved with everything. Sal, her Sal. Her love. Her husband.
" Ma'am I guess you need a refill of your coffee."
The waiter stood before her table said drawing her attention from the couple to him. He was still waiting for her response.
" I guess I will leave."
Putting $10 on the table she took one last look at the couple and came out of the cafe in the chilly morning. The sun was girded by dark clouds restraining the fresh beam of sun which always seem to burn her pain away for moment.
Contemplating she stood there on the road , whether to go and deal with the problem in her boutique or just run into her bed. The weather was not helping either. A contractor wanted her boutique in exchange of 30 million dollars but it was something she wasn't much fun of.
Her boutique wasn't much big but the place where it was built could be useful to turn it into a hotel or mall after demolishing it. Her mother's dream. It was quite popular compared to others. They always try to launch different and unique designs but limited which didn't fail to amaze the customers and maintain their interest on her designs.
In no way she would trade her mothers dream for anything. Tired, rubbing her temples to ease the headache she called her assistant to set up the meeting with the person who was hell bent on buying her boutique to make it clear that she has no interest in his money.
Halting her car in the red light she huffed in annoyance. She glanced on her right side only to double take at the man .
He had his shades on so she couldn't look at him properly but what caught her attention was the band on his wrist .
She knew only one man that had same band with V engraved on it, a sign of their family, but he was long gone to the place from where no one could ever return.
The sudden honk of the car broke her trance she was in. She noticed that the car and the man both were nowhere near her sight. Thinking that it was her mind playing games again with her she shrugged and moved her car.
The moment she halted her car in front of her shop, Sara, her assistant came, running down to her car.
" They are already here and this time it looks like they have come prepared to take it. "
She sighed a breath of relief when she looked at Ruth, all confident with a murderous look on her face. Sara knew how much this place meant to Ruth.
" Over my dead body. "
She snarled, thinking about the person, planning to crumble him under her 5 inches heels. She could hear the faint voices from the outside of the meeting room.
Sara creaked the door open for Ruth. Ruth frozed in her place looking at the person sitting across the table. It isn't true. Her mind repeated it like some mantra for her but her heart beat for otherwise. Her eyes brimmed with tears after a very long time. She took him in. Same greyish eyes but the color was lighter, same hairs, same nose , same lips, same face but now it was more mature and handsome.
She was about to jump on him when his cold and hurful words arrested her on her place.
" I don't have a fucking all day for you to stand there. "
Each words spiraled around her. She came in and gripped the chair to make herself steady and not to fall. Looking down she mumbled a small sorry, trying to blink back the tears which threatened to drop from her eyes.
He cancelled his important meeting just to come here only for them to waste his time with their incompetency and tardiness.
He wanted this place for his hotel. He had already bought the land around the boutique but that shop was a huddle in the middle of his plan.
He saw how hurt she looked but when did other's feelings mattered to him. Never. He had already passed that phase where he felt any emotions. He came here to buy the place and he would do it by hook or by crook.
" Tell me your price. "
The way he spoke to her shattered her heart more. She knew he was not him. He may look similar to him but they were poles apart. Her Sal was sweet, caring, he never dared to raise his voice on her so swearing around her was out of question. But this man he looked like he had no feelings, complete stone and dessert.
She squared her shoulders and masked her hurt fill eyes with the fire ones.
" I have not arranged this meeting to discuss the price but to make it clear to you that I have no intention in selling this place to anyone and you should stop disturbing us with your calls. "
The thought that he was ready to take in any amount enraged her. Sal would never think of this. He respected her dreams and decisions.
" Miss. Glatzel, we understand but we have an offer for you. If you say yes to this you can have your boutique undamaged and Mr. Vassiliev can build his hotel without any hindrance. "
The contractor, on feeling the thick environment and the tension between the two people decided to lighten it up with his words.
" I don't want to listen about your vague idea. Sorry but I'm not interested in your offer not now not ever. "
Grabbing her purse she stood up to walk out of the meeting room. She clutched the handle of the door and turned back to give him a piece of mind.
" And Mr. Vassiliev I will appreciate if you show some respect to the person from whom you want something. "
Giving both of the man her tight smile she finally stalked out of the room and inhaled a long breath of air. She felt suffocated and intimidated under his gaze. It was different with him. He was dark , cold and hollow. She couldn't pin point any expression on his face. It was neutral all along.
Her heart and mind battled if she should go back, if it was really him . Vassiliev, same last name . Could it be possible for a person to have same face and same last name but with a different personality? Shaking away the feeling she plopped on the couch in her cabin. Could it be his brother or cousin?
But as much as she knew Sal was the only child and had no family. All her efforts drew in vain to stop her waterworks. She had stopped crying over him for a month but now she couldn't stop it. At one point the pain was so much that she was about to end her life. But couldn't. She couldn't let her father feel the same pain again. He lost himself when he lost his wife.
People would think of her as a fool. Who turn down such great offer of 30 million dollars? But no one could understand it was not about the money it was about the memories of her mother in every corner of that place. It was the fruit of her mother's labour . She passed away without witnessing how successful her dream was now.
" Mr. Vassiliev. "
The contractor took quick steps to match up with him. He looked calm but he was raging from the inside. No one has ever disrespected him that way and got away with it. He has many other ways to buy that place but he chose the easiest one and what happened, some mere girl came and rubbed her insolent behavior on his face.
" Don't show me your face from now on. You dealt it your way but now its my turn. "
He growled with rage. He climbed his car and roared off towards the highway leaving the contractor on the empty road.
