Chapter 2: Expressing My Heart
The night deepened, the palatial palaces looked like ghosts and the insects grew weary of casting their voices into the darkness all night long.
Daybreak had come and I didn't realize it until there was a knock on the door and a soft voice whispered in my ears soft and sweet notes.
"Time to wake up, dear Jerome."
I folded the blanket and was relieved that my luggage had been stowed in a corner. I didn't know how to explain the meager luggage. Because I thought I would cry if Aylmer asked me about it.
So I asked Lord Regus to do me a favor, that I should go quietly early the next morning and let Aylmer not know the truth.
Aylmer was too good to know that someone was forced to sacrifice themselves just to protect him. And I didn't know what to do if he's upset or angry about my seemingly impulsive but firm decision.
That wonderful face must keep that bright smile forever. That was the last memory of him that I wanted to keep.
"Why are you showing up in my room right now instead of a class on the basics of being a king?" I crossed my arms over my chest, speaking in my stern voice.
"Come on Jerome, you're becoming more and more like the scholars of the court. If you keep going like this, I'll consider making you a Prime Minister in the future," Aylmer lay back on my bed as a habit.
"Don't joke like that or it won't be very nice if anyone hears it."
Aylmer sat up on his arms, tilting his head to look at me with brooding blue eyes. If it were a normal day I would be confused by his look. But that day I allowed myself to enjoy that last little thing as a privilege.
"You look weird today Jer. Is everything okay?".
I knew he had always been a good observer, and it didn't frighten me that he noticed something strange about me. If I was in a different time, in a different situation, maybe I would be happier, because he cared so much about me. But counting down the days when I had to leave him making the corners of my lips unable to lift.
"You ignored my question, Ayl. "
" This morning has a reference session. Mr. Corbin and General Thomas give me a day off, so today will be for Ayl and Jer. "
Aylmer saw I was still dumbfounded with the neck, pulling me out of the room.
"It's rare for a comfortable day, I'll take you to a pretty good place."
Perhaps this was the only chance and finally I got to create great memories with Aylmer, with the person I shouldn't love, but I love him all my heart.
Aylmer pulled me into the fishing room to change the costume of civilians. I still held the gold-plated blindfold with the image of majestic flowers and thermal flowers bended. The two kinds of flowers represent my characteristic scent and his. Majestic flowers for Aylmer and thermal flower for myself. This was also a birthday gift Aylmer giving me when I was sixteen years old, that's why I never leave it, and probably forever later. When I was struggling with the other sleeve, Aylmer's familiar smell was right after my head and before I turned around to observe his intention, I was got a bunch between Aylmer's hug.
"Ayl ..."
"Is it close to your heat age, so your scent is clearer, Jer?"
Aylmer was taking the nose along my incense route. Naturally, the closeness between the Omegas could not have caused too much reaction, but I was in love Aylmer, and this contact made my heart almost dance out.
"Is it?"
I tried to keep a neutral attitude. Because I knew that that didn't mean anything to Aylmer. Perhaps losing his mother from childhood, so he always lived emotionally and close like that.
"I don't remember the last time we sleep together. I remember your warmth."
He goured in a sad voice.
That didn't make any meaning for Aylmer. I had always reminded me of it.
" So tonight I go to your room?"
I tried suggestions.
"You're not kidding?"
Aylmer grabbed my shoulder.
I rolled my eyes, said:
"No, I'm telling the truth."
"Oh, Jer, why are you so sweet today?"
Aylmer kissed my cheek, smiling.
"You are the future successor, don't even mention it."
I tried to keep my voice cranky but perhaps where Aylmer's soft lips kissed my cheek were being burned.
"Okay, okay Jerome scholar."
Aylmer turned away, then turned his head to look at me, his blue eyes reflecting the bright golden sunshine:
"How can I die when I haven't found half of my fate!"
For me, Aylmer was a skilled execution capable of slashing the body and separating awareness even without any weapons. And I was a foolish foolie ready to dedicate. Finished dressing, Aylmer and I followed the secret path from the palace. We visited almost every stall in the city, which could be an omega jewelry and clothing store, which could also was where Alpha frequented. Attently listened to jokes, and the trips of wandering travelers, then they continued with funny stories and songs about virtue and beauty of the Aylmer. It was when I would giggle in front of his red face shy, while his hand tightened my hand and left the praises.
Following Aylmer was always happiness with a guy like me. Even if I was there, my eyes were still not know how to leave Aylmer's beauty. Return to the palace right at dinner, after breaking up, washing and changing clothes, I had a short talk with General Thomas, who said that my trip would be departed on the next morning. When I came to the room, Aylmer was wearing pyjamas, lying in bed with a book in his hand. I put my head on the pillow next to him, asking:
"Is the story about fateful couples?"
"You should read them at least once in your life, Jer. Only then you could understand the sacredness of that durable relationship." Aylmer put the book on the table next to the bed and then lay on my chest.
"Don't you think that it will be very romantic if there is a name of someone that right on your clavicle, and he will have your name on his own wrist."
Aylmer scaned his finger on the clarine clearly revealed under my night's nightgown. The fingers like a red head of a match, frictioning into my skin caused hotflamy spots. The closer I saw him, the more I found myself hard to control the heart rate. Because it always watched and rang when I met him.
"If this whole life you can't meet your fate, ayl?"
I swallowed and asked.
"I will definitely meet that person."
He looked at me with a steadfast look.
"But if it's time for me to get older, I still can't find a man, I'll live with you."
"Will you still live with me even if I have an alpha?" I laughed.
Aylmer suddenly sat up and looked me in the face.
"Are you going to marry Alpha?"
"Isn't that obvious?" I roll the words on my tongue hard, as if they're burning me bit by bit.
"I don't believe in Alpha." Aylmer was suddenly irritable.
"Except for my father, of course." Omega added.
"Half of your destiny is also an Alpha, Ayl."
I said doubtfully.
"Yes, half of my destiny is Alpha, but that strong bond makes it possible for us to feel each other's pain and feelings. And I will be the last person in this world that Alpha can touch. I need such understanding and sharing from my life partner. So if I can't find my other half, I'd rather stay there for the rest of my life."
"And you'll make all the physiology lessons meaningless." I tried to make jokes to ease the instability in Aylmer's chaotic scent.
"A lack of practice won't kill anyone."
"And you'll be an eighty-year-old king who hasn't had his first kiss." I teased.
Three seconds later I felt warm and soft and slippery, and it took another three seconds for me to realize that Aylmer was kissing me passionately. I couldn't move and it was he who tilted his head to give the bond an extra link. I found myself flying and I was being emptied, leaving only a lifeless corpse.
I didn't count the minutes or the seconds because when Aylmer pulled away from the kiss I realized I was alive.
"So I just lost it."
Aylmer's peach cheeks flushed red, and he grinned while looking straight into my eyes.
And the galaxy seemed to disappear into those deep sea and lake eyes, I couldn't move away and was swept along as usual.
If I must marry someone other than Aylmer, then at least let me belong to him. Just that once let me be selfish and think only of myself.
"Be my first, Ayl." I spoke without thinking for a second.
"I don't understand what you're saying?"
I looked at Ayl's bewilderment, repeating my words:
"I want to give myself to you. Make me yours, Ayl."
I reached out for Aylmer but he moved away as if I were the source of some serious illness.
"Have you lost your mind, Jer? We are close friends. Besides, we are Omegas."
If still sane enough to be aware of what the current situation was, I would know that face. How bad Aylmer's voice and attitude were right at that time.
"I know, but I wanted to give the first to my best friend. Ayl, will you be my first?"
Before I could say anything more, a straight, full-force slap hit my cheek so hard that my face was tilted to one side and I could almost taste the sharp taste on my tongue.
"Go out!" Aylmer growled angrily, I wonder if he's ever been so grumpy in front of me. But my blank mind kept me from thinking.
"Ayl!" My voice cracked, my lips trembled, and I felt numb.
"I said get out." Aylmer turned his fierce gaze on me. And his scent, my favorite iris was incredibly bitter and sour.
"Agl, I… if this request is too much for you then we shouldn't do it…" I tried to defend myself with ridiculous clumsiness.
"Jerome, how dare you ask your Prince to do such abominable thing. While to me, you are more than a good friend, you are a brother, a family. But look what you have done to my heart. You make me sick to death, so get out of my sight and never appear again."
Aylmer's rage was so evident in those blue eyes, every line of his beautiful face exuded pain and above all was disappointment. How painful it was to realize that Aylmer was looking at me like I was a despicable person, more than a traitor.
"Forgive me. Ayl."
I gathered the decaying pieces of my heart and ran away.
