The five sat in the room, their mood was gloomy. Percy went outside to get something for them to eat. Beverly leaned on the desk, not knowing what to say.

"Why don't they just burn the place?" Chadwick asked.

Percy came back while hearing it. He carried a tray and a flagon. "We already tried that," he said and laid them on the table.

Beverly looked to the tray and saw some hard bread, a bowl of pottage with wheat and some meat, boiled potatoes and some beans. She looked at the flagon and saw water having the smell of ale.

"I know this is not something to be served to someone from a high caste, but please bear with us," he looked down.

Beverly took a hard bread and tore it into two. It was tasteless and dry, but she chose not to say anything. "What did you mean when you said about burning the tree?" she asked.

"Exactly that, we tried burning the tree when things started getting out of hand. But the tree just took in the flames and became more violent," he said.
