Chapter 60: The end of Kit's and Gunner's story.


Kit entered his office and then ambled over to his desk. He had an uneaten sandwich, and he gave the meat in the center to Barb. Once the dog had the food bits, she trotted over to the couch, jumped onto a cushion, and then made herself comfortable with her normal circle routine. 


Gunner strolled around the office and then stood near the window. When he didn't speak, Kit leaned against the front of his desk and watched Gunner as the man shrugged off his old army backpack. A pulsating silence took up every corner of the space as Gunner kept staring out at the view of the city.


"I tried to call you," Kit said after what felt like a thousand years of the cold shoulder.
