Farewell

"Thank God it's Friday!" Amy exclaimed as she got herself ready for work. Today is her last day as a researcher at GHO. Working far away from her family, moving to different countries 3 times, and practicing medicine as a pediatric neurosurgeon were all she ever wanted. Now it has come to an end.

Amy couldn't help but feel sad to leave Korea and the little friends she made but, at the same time, excited to have some free time.

Image of Jim giving her an embrace suddenly made Amy blush.

Amy's day continued like any other day, so when she came to her office at noon, she was surprised that Jen and some other friendly faces were waiting for her.

"Surprise!!!" They yelled.

"Oh my gosh, you guys!" Amy said tearfully. There were bouquets of flowers everywhere.

"I will miss you, Dr. Amy," cried Jen.

"Me too, Jen. You're the best secretary one could ever ask for. I will take you with me if I can," Amy said, hugging Jen, who has been her confidant for the last four years.

Amy thanked everyone who came, and with that, Amy left her office thankful for the years she spent with her team.

"Hi Alex," Amy answered her phone, happy to hear the voice of her best friend.

"Aimmyyy, I know I have been swamped lately; as you know, I just released my album, but" Alex paused excitedly, "I made time for you today, and I will gladly accompany you wherever you go!"

Alex and Amy met back in country Q. Amy was a fan of Alex; she loved that Alex was breaking norms around kpop industry. Alex wore clothes that showed her curves, sang songs that were a little provocative, and made a name for herself while being true to her authentic self. Alex is a fireball.

And so when Alex made a mini concert back in country Q, Amy got out of her way to meet her. During the fan meeting, Amy and Alex clicked right away.

They exchanged personal numbers and have not stopped talking and making time for each other ever since. When Amy moved to Korea, Alex recommended the place for her apartment and showered her around despite her busy schedule.

"Why does that sound like trouble?" Amy said.

"Because it is!" Alex exclaimed! "I'll pick you up at your place in an hour, okay?" Amy hung up the phone and readied herself as she knew a day with Alex was a journey.

Just as promised, Alex came over to Amy's an hour after. "You're barely packed! I thought you'd be leaving on Sunday," Alex said in disbelief.

"I am. I had already packed my luggage and my personal things. Ahjumma will continue to clean and take care of the apartment while I think about what to do with my things- then I will probably have movers pack my things and ship them to wherever my life leads me next," Amy explained.

"Aren't you done moving around, though? I mean, I know how hard it is- me being in the music industry, I know how exhausting it is to move from place to place. But at least for me, at the end of the day, I have a place I call home at the end of all showbiz chaos". Alex looked at Amy, worried.

"I have a place, Alex," Amy said softly.

"But it is a home?" Alex pointed out.

'Home' the word struck Amy like lightning. It's true. She got places to stay and a house to live in but never a place to call home.

"Are you happy, Alex?" Amy asked. "Being in the Kpop industry, tours, recordings, and promotions, did you ever feel like it took something from you?" Amy looked at her best friend, who had now furrowed her brows at the sudden question.

"If you mean the breakup between Minzu and me, I felt sad, maybe unhappy, for some time. But I don't need a man to be happy. I have tools for that" Alex chuckled at her dirty thought; Amy scowled.

"Minzu was not the man for me. He loved me, but he didn't understand the life and work I lived in. I'm happy with what I do; if someone doesn't understand that making my fans happy and giving them a part of me as they did for me, I don't think I'll like that," Alex said casually.

"You're right," Amy sighed. "When did you become so wise?" Throwing a pillow at Alex.

Both girls giggled at chatted for a while. When dinner time came, Alex confessed something to Amy.

"So Amy, don't get mad at me, but..." Alex paused to look at Amy, who now has her arms folded and her brow raised.

"my friend really wants to meet you! He has had a crush on you for the longest time. And when I told him you're leaving soon, he asked me if you'd be willing to meet him… at dinner…tonight… at KOBU?" Alex lowered her voice as she fidgeted.

"What?!! You already made plans without even asking me first?" Amy exclaimed in frustration.

"It's because you never meet people I tell you to meet! You always say you're busy or this and that, and since you're basically unemployed and stuck with me, you have no choice but meet my friends and hang out!" Alex snarled and threw the same pillow Amy threw at her a while ago.

"Don't worry, Lin and I are tagging along, too. I think my friend is bringing a friend along as well. So get up, dress up and let those tities out," Alex exclaimed.

Amy decided to wear a white sleeveless linen square top paired with high-rise denim pants. She also wore her white Blaise triangle blocked heel. Matching her simple yet elegant outfit, Amy put her hair in a low messy bun.

"Girl! I always see you in scrubs, you know. Sometimes I forget how stunning you are. My friend will be drooling all over you tonight !" Alex said, hyping Amy.

"I'm just meeting your friends and nothing more, Alex. I swear to God, if you pull any shenanigans tonight, I will kill you," Amy threatened Alex.

Just when Alex was about to retaliate, Amy's phone rang. And Alex couldn't believe what her eyes were seeing. The cool, calm, collected Amelia Fitzgerald hurried to her cellphone, blushing, and locked herself in the bathroom.

When Amy was done talking, Alex looked at her suspiciously and said, "so this is how my friend will get friend zoned tonight," and laughed. Amy hit her back and rolled her eyes.

At KOBU, Alex introduced Kaz to Amy. Apparently, Kaz is Alex's music producer, and they had met before when Amy visited Alex in the music studio.

"So Amy, are you coming back to Korea?" Kaz asked, trying to make a conversation.

"Unlikely," Amy sighed, "I'm supposed to meet someone in country Q to discuss a job offer next week."

"I think being a surgeon is incredible, aren't you suppose to be very smart to be a surgeon?" Kaz teased, lightening the conversation."

"Not really. You just gotta have a rocket full of dedication and perseverance," Amy replied.

After dinner, the lot, consisting of Amy, Alex, Lin, Kaz, and Gibs, decided to go to the bar not too far from the restaurant.

The following day, Amy decided to read the documents Jen printed for her regarding Dr. Cha's and others' job offers. Feeling overwhelmed, Amy agreed to clear her head and went for a drive.

Following what her mind was directing her without giving it too much thought, Amy stopped at the coffee shop she and Jim visited.

The homey and welcoming vibe of the shop made an impression on her.

When she entered, she saw the same woman who saved her last time. "Hello," Amy smiled.

"Nice to see you again," the lady at the counter said, surprising Amy because she didn't the kind lady would remember her.

"Nice to see you as well. Your coffee was incredible; I couldn't get enough of it," Amy chirped.

"Well then, if I remember correctly, it was a caramel cappuccino, double shot, extra foam?" The lady warmly said.

"It is," Amy blushed.

"Here's your coffee," the lady whose name tag read Mina.

"Thank you, Mina," Amy addressed the kind lady in front of her. "How much?"

"It's one the house," Mina said

"Oh my gosh, thanks, but no, I couldn't do that."

"Please, I insist!" Mina pleaded.

"Just this once," Amy surrendered. "Thank you"

Amy sat at the same table Jim and she sat at before. She then realized she had missed Jim. They only met for a week, but it seems as though he knows her, and she knows him. She doesn't have to pretend anything when she's with him. And she loved how smooth and unpretentious their conversations were. Amy took a snap of her coffee and sent it to Jim, then proceeded to guzzle it down.

Amy thanked Mina once again before heading out.

'Farewell,' Amy said to no one while looking at the beautiful blue sky.
