Chapter 6

Maddie was in her car, driving back to the house from the hospital. She felt bad for leaving without telling them the 'why' she left. Why did I have to accept for James to tell me about his nightmare? She was mad at herself. She didn't want to cry in the car. I'm such a stupid person! If I denied from the begging and told him to see a professional, nothing of this would have happened to him. After an hour of driving from the hospital, she finally arrived at the house. She got out of the car and opened the back door to get the babysit out, she didn't want to have anything that could remind her of this beautiful life that she had with them. When she entered the house, she left the babysit at the entry and went inside. She couldn't look at the living room without remembering that was where this whole thing started. She just passed it and went upstairs to where she was sleeping for the past 3 months since she worked for James.

When she arrived at the room, she took out the bags that she owned and filled them with her clothes and all the things that were belong to her. She couldn't stay in this house; she now understand her feelings toward James. How could I've been so stupid and fall in love with him? If only he wasn't too much nice to me or smiled at me, I wouldn't have fallen for him. Maddie felt her tears coming down her cheeks and she couldn't stop them now! She felt to her knees and cried her heart out. GOD I'm going to miss Drew so much, but it's better for him. After a half hour, she had her bags ready. Her eyes were dry from the crying. She got out of the room with her bags and went down the stairs. When she arrived at the bottom of the stairs, she left the bags there and went to the kitchen to find notepad and write her letter of resignation with telling him the other reason she was quitting this job.

She left the letter in the kitchen and left the spare key he gave her to the house and went to where she left the bags to grab them. She looked for the last time at the house that made her dream of happiness and that made her fall in love with two amazing men she was happy to meet. After the last look around the house, she went to the entry of the house, opened the door and just left without looking back.

Maddie put her bags in the back of her car and got inside, when she was inside the car she thought I can't go back to Ms. Hester's house because the poor woman think that I'm happy, and if she sees me at the entry of her house, she'll be happy to see her but will ask questions she was not ready to answer, I guess the only lace that left for me to go was that place, I just hope that person will not judge her too much! With these thoughts in mind, she started her car and was on the way to that place.

On the next day James wakes up, realizing that he's in the hospital again. He's looking around the room and then his eyes lands on a figure sitting on the chair. He can recognize him. It's his father that sits on the chair and sleeping. He shocked him slowly. "Dad? Wake up." James saw his father opening his eyes and rubbing them just to wake up.

"Thank God, you're awake son. We were worried about you yesterday when they brought you to here."

"Where's mom and Drew? Wait, I was with Maddie yesterday. Is she outside now?"

"No, son. Maddie left yesterday the hospital. Drew is with your mother now." James looked at his father. Why did Maddie leave? Maybe she's at home preparing something for me. James sighed. Maybe he should just get away from her. When I get out of here, I'll just get back to the base and stay there. A knock on the door interrupted his thoughts.

"Come in" when the door opened, he smiled at the person who came.

"Hi mom, hi Drew. Let me hold Drew mom, I've missed him." His mom approached his bed and passed him Drew.

She kissed his head, "I'm so happy to see you awake, you scared me." His mom smiled at him and then turned toward his dad. "Honey, can you come out for a few minutes?" His dad nodded and got out of his room with his wife.

"Hello buddy, how are doing? You missed me?" James put Drew on his chest and then looked at the door that his parents got out. His mom looked worried about something. I hope that everything is OK.

A few minutes later, his parents returned to his room but different expression on their faces. "What's wrong mom? Did something bad happened?"

"No, Honey. Nothing bad happened. We just wanted to talk about something else. How are you feeling?" James looked at his mother and he knew she was hiding something from him, but he didn't want to pressure her.

"I'm feeling better, when can I go home?" James was sick and tired from hospitals, he just wanted to get home and prepare his bag to go back to the base and stay there for at least a month, so he could control his feeling and to know what he's really feels toward Maddie.

"At noon, the doctor told us they are waiting for your blood result."

James nodded his head and looked at his son, that was sleeping peacefully in his arms. He caresses him "Mom, it's batter to take Drew home so he could sleep in his crib and be more comfortable and dad? Please go home too and take a rest. Come back at noon to take me home. I need to prepare my bag to go back to the base."

James watched as his parents looked at each other and then at him. "You are going back tomorrow? But I thought that you're supposed to stay home until Monday, it's only Saturday. What's wrong, James? From what you are running from, or more like from who?"

James sighed at his mother question, because he didn't know from what or from who he was running, maybe he was running from his own problems as a coward and now facing them as he should, but he didn't want to face them right now. He only wants to focus on his son and that's it.

He's parents left his room with a sleepy Drew in their arms and James felt now he can relax a bit and sleep more before he can get released from the hospital and face the only woman that he's trying to hide from.

A Few Hours Later

Finally, James is being discharged from the hospital, and currently he's in the car. His dad is driving him home. He feels like he can't sit still in the car. He feels that something bad has happened while he was in the hospital. Maddie didn't visit him at all while he was there. Only brought him at night and left. James sighed. What's wrong with Maddie? Why didn't she visit me even once? Does she hate me that much? James looked outside of the car and noticed that they have arrived at his place and instead of Maddie standing at the entry with Drew, his mother was there. Something is wrong here. Where is Maddie? Why she's not greeting me? Maybe she is in the kitchen preparing food? James got out of the car and went inside the house without greeting his mother and Drew and went into the kitchen.

"Maddie, I'm…" When he arrived in the kitchen with a smile, he felt disappointed and the smile that he had slowly disappeared from his face.

"Where is Maddie?" James turned to face his parents but noticed a letter at the counter and picked it up. It was a letter of resignation from her. He read it with shock on his face.

For James:

By the time you are reading this letter, I'm no longer will work for you. I'm sorry that you had to tell me about your nightmares that put you in the hospital.

Please take care of yourself and Drew. I'll be forever grateful for letting me work for you these past 4 months.

Tell Drew that I love him and tell your parents that I appreciate their concern for me. No one ever did that to me in the past.

I hope you'll find a new helper and someone that will take care of the house and Drew while you're in the base.

Take care of your health and don't be sick.

Maddison Weber.

He couldn't believe it. She just left this house, and she left us because she thought it was her fault that he end up in the hospital?

"Did you know?" James turned toward his parents that stood at the entry of the kitchen, "You knew, and didn't even tell me that. Why mom? Dad? I could have prevented it." He was angry at himself and at Maddie for leaving them alone at the house.

"We're sorry, son. Your mom found out this morning when she came to the house with Drew."

"Your dad is right. When we lest the hospital in the morning, I went to your house to put Drew for his nap time and talk to Maddie. I found her note saying that she left this house and work. I wanted to tell you after you've vein discharged from the hospital, plus you just informed us you're leaving tomorrow back to the base."

James sighed after hearing his parents' words. He knew they were right, but it still hurt him to know that Maddie left this job, especially me and Drew. What am I going to do now, without you Maddie?
