Chapter 14

While James was driving them behind detective's car to his house, Maddie couldn't believe that innocent man got killed for doing investigation and collecting information about John.

Maddie felt a hand on her knee, and she turned her head to her left and looked at James.

"What are you thinking about, my love?"

Maddie sighed and tried to smile but failed. "I can't believe that someone had to die for doing an investigation about him. When will this complete nightmare end?"

"I understand you. Let's hope that the detective has the documents that the late officer collected. Don't give up hope. We'll put him behind the bar soon. I promise you."

Maddie nodded her head and turned her head to the window side and continued to watch how the scenes in front of her changed. After one and a half hour of driving, they finally arrived at the detective's house.

"Please, come in. I'll tell my wife to prepare something for us to eat. I don't know you, but I'm hungry." We nodded to him and watched as he went to the kitchen. James and I sat down on the couch and waited for him. While waiting, I looked around his house, it has so many pictures on the wall. Few of them were of his wedding day and others were of his 3 children from a young age to an apparently recent one.

In a few minutes, he returned with a woman beside him that had a warm smile.

"This is my beautiful wife Susan, and she prepared a few things for us to eat. Let's sit at the dining table and after that, we'll talk."

James and Maddie stood up from the couch and went to the dining table. While they were eating, detective Wright told them about how he met his wife and that they were married for 30 years and that their 2 sons are married with children and their youngest is finishing college and will become a lawyer.

Maddie was smiling at the way he was talking about his family, with so much love that she was envious because her own family hated her.

"You OK, dear?"

Maddie turned to Susan and smiled. "Yeah, I'm fine. The food is amazing. You didn't have to do it, though."

"Don't worry, my husband sometimes brings his co-workers home and I serve them too."

Maddie smiled to her and continued to talk to her, while the men talked to them self.

After finishing eating, they all stood up from the table and went to sit on the couch and talk about the most important stuff that they wanted to know. Will he really have those documents? Maddie thought to herself when she sat down on the couch alongside James and talked.

"Detective Wright, I really appreciate that you brought us to your house and gave us food. But we'll want to talk about the documents that the late office Woods left for us."

"I understand that son. I'll go bring them now." James saw him standing up from the couch and going to a room. In a few minutes, he returned with an extensive file in his hand and pass it to them.

"This is the documents that he collected over the years. He used to work under me. He was an outstanding officer."

"I know, detective. I worked with him in the past. As you know, don't worry. After we'll find the evidence that we need, we'll put that man behind bars forever."

Maddie and James look at each other and then at the documents that they had in their hand. He couldn't believe that they finally had them. Now the only thing that they need is to put John behind bars forever, so he could see Maddie smile and be happy and most impotently is for her to marry him.

They stayed in the detective's house one more hour and then they bid a thank you and a goodbye with a promise to give him an update on the case.

They left his house and entered the car. "We finally have those documents in our hands. Maddie will find him no matter what."

"I know, James, I can't believe it. Can we go home now?"

"Let's go home." James started the car and made a U-turn to drive all the way to LA, he knows that they'll arrive in the morning, but they didn't mind it. If they don't lose those documents that they finally got.

James felt angry that a man had to lose his life just for doing research on a murder. James looks at Maddie when he stopped at the red light and saw that she was in silence.

"Maddie? What are thinking?"

"Do you think we'll get him? I don't want anyone to get hurt because of me."

"It's not your fault. It's that bastard's fault. He's dangerous to this world and needs to be stopped. Let's go back to our home to relax alongside Drew."

As James continued to drive them back to LA, the only thoughts he had was to make her happy and make her smile every day. Plus, he needs to confess to her his love to her.

After a long road, they finally arrived at LA. Maddie was driving them back the other half when she noticed James was getting sleepy. Has she been driving she felt that they now can finally search for any evidence to put John behind bars, and she'll be able to be happy with James and Drew?

When they arrived home, she parked the car in the garage and looked at the peaceful face of James. GOD, I love this man so much, he came with me to look for the evidence that I was searching for so long, and now we have them in our hands. Maddie smiled and looked at his blue eyes that were smiling to him.

"Do you like me, Maddie?" James asked her with a husky voice.

Maddie blushed red in her cheeks and smiled. "I do. I love you James, you are the best…" Maddie slapped her lips with a shock that she revealed her secret to him. "Forget what I said, I got nervous and…" James cupid her face in his hand and slammed his lips into her with a passionate kiss.

"I love you too, Maddie. I fell in love with you from the first time that I saw you singing to my son, I know I was grumpy all the time but without figuring out how, I found myself in love with you. After we catch that bastard, I'm going to make you happy for the rest of our life. So, let's go inside, and find those evidence."

Maddie had tears in her eyes after she heard him confessing his love to her, she felt like it was a dream that she didn't want to wake up.

They got out of the car and went inside. When they entered, they saw his parents with Drew in the living room.

"They are back, we missed you. How did it go?" Terry asked him after hugging each one of them.

"It was sad, Officer Woods got killed by someone, which I sure that John ordered it, but we received those documents from the detective Wright that worked with him in the past." James showed his parents the documents and went to his office to hide them in the vault so no one can touch them.

"Are you doing good, Maddie?"

"I'm just tired, I think I'll go to the room and sleep."

"Go honey, we'll take Drew with us so you two could sleep. We'll bring him back tomorrow morning. Say bye-bye to Maddie."

"Mommy, bye-bye." Maddie smiled at Drew, she couldn't believe it yet that he calls her mommy, but she liked it.

"Bye-bye Drew, be a good boy to your grandparents." Maddie walked them to the entry of the house and bid them a goodbye.

"Did they leave?" Maddie turned around to find James leaning on the couch.

"Yeah, they just left, they said that they'll bring Drew back tomorrow morning. Why?"

James approached her and hugged her; Maddie returned the hug and hugged him else to her. James took a small step from the hug and looked at her eyes.

"I love you, Maddie. I'll do anything in my power to protect you from that man until my last breath."

"I love you too, James. Can you promise me one thing?"

"Whatever you want."

"Just don't die, because I can't loss you."

"You won't loss me, I promise." James took her face in his hand and kissed her like his life is depending on them. He lifted her in his arms, and she wrapped her legs at his hips when he went upstairs with her in his hands and continuing to kiss her with so much passion that she felt like being floating in the sky. As they reached to his room, he put her on his bed and hovered over her as they continued kissing each other, the clothes were disappearing one by one. They made love all day long as they lived in their on a world with no worries around them.
