S1E29 - On the Road

As we get back to my box truck, I open the latch and slide the door up, revealing the boxes of goodies. I speak to the group behind my truck,

"Each person gets a single backpack of supplies, and a weapon. You ask for anything more, and I take everything back and send you out with nothing, alright? I'm not playing games with you."

The majority nod their heads. I pop open one of the boxes that has the backpacks in them, and start going to different boxes. In each bag, I put four MRE's, three bottles of water, a lighter, and a length of paracord. I then take out three weapons, a hatchet, a knife, and a baseball bat. I offer them one of any weapon. The majority picked out baseball bats, but one family was smart and got one of their kids to grab a hatchet, and the other to get a knife. They'll most likely be the ones to survive the longest.

After giving each of them their stuff, I stand on the back of my truck and speak to them,

"Alright. Go. You're no longer part of our group. The next time we see each other, we may just be aiming guns at you."

The group looks at me with shock for a second before slowly making their way down the road. I see Daryl come around the corner of the truck,

"Wow. Pretty harsh."

I chuckle,

"Heh. Well, they're not part of our camp. I got no reason to be kind to them anymore."

Daryl chuckles back,

"Heh, nah you got me wrong. I agree with you. I'm just surprised there's someone whose head isn't in the clouds in this group."

I shake my head as I close the back of my truck,

"This group may be pretty naive right now, but I can tell that they've got the makings of survivors. I mean, they definitely need good leadership, but I feel that they'll be able to survive at the least. I mean, you probably see it that way too. Seein' as how you're here with us instead of on the road by yourself."

Daryl jokes,

"Yeah, well, just didn't wanna have to give up my bike."

I laugh out loud at that,

"HAH! Come on, you and I both know you'd die before you gave up that bike!"

Daryl smiles,

"You're goddamn right I would."

A few seconds pass by as the conversation goes stale, then Daryl asks,

"So, how's Amy?"

I sigh,

"Haaaah… She'll probably make it through. Most of the bleeding has stopped. Now I'm just worried about the heat. I think the best thing for her would be getting her to the CDC, honestly. They'd probably have medical supplies, and emergency generators running the place, which means AC. I don't want her to get dehydrated while she's asleep, or even heatstroke. That'd be a death sentence for a recovering girl."

Daryl nods his head,

"Yeah. You got painkillers for her?"

I nod my head,

"'Course. She hasn't been awake to take them, but they're next to her."

He nods his head back,

"Good. Good."

And the conversation goes stale again. Daryl is pretty awkward right now, as he was in the first season. They hadn't really found out his character quite yet. It's gonna be interesting seeing how Andrea acts now that Amy is alive. She probably won't be as dumb as she was in the TV series. Hopefully she's more like her comic counterpart.

I step down from the boxtruck and look out at the group. They all seem to be gathering up the tents while Shane puts out the fire. Dale is up on top of the RV with his rifle, keeping watch. I head over to start helping pack everything up.

—--------------------

A few hours later, we're ready to go. Before we head out, we get a headcount.

Amy, Andrea, Jaqui, Jim, Carol, Sophia, Rick, Lori, Glen, Carl, Morales and family, T-dog, Daryl, Dale, and Shane. Most of the main cast survived, with the only one dying being Ed but fuck Ed. As for non-main cast, we have Clem, a short black haired white girl named Kim, a tall short-black haired white guy named Toby, and an average height buzzcut black guy named Gerard. Kim kinda reminds me of Tara from season 4, just less annoying. She doesn't go around saying "pound it" to everyone and offering fistbumps. Toby is kinda the emo of the group. He'd definitely be texting a girl "rawr means i love you in dinosaur" or some shit like that. Gerard seems to be more of a happy-go-lucky guy, but I saw him taking out quite a few walkers during the camp attack while the rest of the extras kinda ran away or died.

I find Rick in the group and say,

"You know the way to the CDC?"

He nods his head,

"For the most part, yeah."

I pat his shoulder,

"Alright, you're leading! Everyone load up!"

I go to my box truck, and find Clem following close behind. I turn around and rub her head.

"You ready to go?"

She nods her head,

"Yeah. Miss Carol gave me a comic book to read on the way."

I smile at her and say,

"Ooooh, you'll have to let me borrow it when you're done. Maybe we could stop by a comic book store one day."

We both load up into the truck, keeping our backpacks up front just in case. The engine starts up with a soft hum, as we leave behind the burning pile of walker bodies. And the multiple graves.
